"Not just long, Rocketballz long."

Recommended Posts

I'm disappointed, Taylormade.
I saw a Dick's Sporting Goods commercial the other day for RBZ products with the tag line, "Not just long, Rocketballz long." A total rip off of the PING "Don't just hit it long, hit it Bubba long" ads. I understand if it's something Dick's put together. But, especially if it's a Taylormade commercial, I'm very disappointed they had to sort steal another company's line. What do you think?

+1. Gotta say ... I've tried some of their stuff ... not a single club or ball has ever made it into my bag. I see them more as a marketing company instead of an actual golf company. (WHITE clubs? give me a break.)

similar tag lines, but not really a rip off. i think people are more excited about the fairway woods, which are just a simliar concept to the adams clubs that were out long before these. jmo

+1 I said the same thing to my father-in-law just the other day. Adams had that "speed cavity" or what ever they called it. Just goes to show you it's all in the name. Adams does it it's a gimmick TM comes out with it and its the next best thing since sliced bread. With that said, I do love there drivers and I have an R11 in my bag.

Funny that you say this because TM already has the next generation of the RBZ in the works. One of the reps noted that when TM finally evolves the slot technology, they're claiming that 23 yard gains are possible.

I think you could argue that Nike had the first velocity slot, they just called it a compression channel.

Never paid attention before but Kenny Perry says "this thing is a rocket" at the end of his Adams commercial...noticed that one this morning...thought it was funny.

I like the Taylor Made hype, it's fun to watch. I like all their TV commercials and I thought all the stuff they did at the PGA show was awesome. I like to get jacked up about stuff like everyone else does, and TM does a great job in that department.

I'm dead serious about the above, but the funny thing is I don't own any of their equipment because I prefer more traditional stuff that oozes quality in its appearance. And I'm not saying TM is not quality, I just think the look of a lot of their products doesn't reflect it as well as say Titleist or Mizuno.

I play Mizzy irons, Titty 983E driver and Titty FW / hybrids, and a TP Mills Softtail. If for some reason I decide to ho later this year and get a new driver, it will probably be the Mizzy 650 which to me just looks fantastic.

But I still like the TM hype, I enjoy it even though I'm a substance over image guy at heart.

I can promise you every single OEM has the next wood line in the works... It's not like this stuff takes two weeks to develop.

Nike seems to be the forgotten step child in the "slot technology" war. VR Tour was first with it. (Not a fanboy, just think they get overlooked on this "slot" topic.)

Difference is, TM product are among the best. Bose is junk and Monster is no better than something 1/10 the price, especially for digital connection.

TM also wants to take golf as you know it and get the PGA to create an formal alternative. According to their CEO, it's too hard and needs to be more fun to attract more of the masses.

OP, take solace in the fact that Callaway has a new commercial with Tommy Two-Gloves doing a mock TM/Rocketballz "wink and smile" as he hits shots between casino rooftops. Thought it was a nice dig at the TM marketing foolishness.

Nike didn't use all the buzz words that your typical weekend warrior hacker falls for.......longer.....faster......farther....blah blah blah.

Nike basically mumbled something about the lower half of the club being being better.

Agreed. My comment was focused on the technology moreso than the marketing of the technology. :drinks:

Let me guess. TM will"evolve" the slot technology from "Speed Pocket" to "Speed Pocket within a Speed Pocket".

Hm. Sounds familiar to Adams' "Slot within a slot" technology.

Weird. I mean, it's not like it's a blatant rip off. Oh. Wait....:busted2:

I AGREE WITH THE TM MARKETING HYPE. TO ME, THEY ARE QUALITY BUT NO MORE SO THAN THE OTHER MAJOR OEM'S. THE REASON THEY ARE THE #1 DRIVER ON TOUR IS BECAUSE THE PAY THE MOST TO DO SO. AS STATED, NIKE AND ADAMS ALREADY HAD THEIR VERSIONS ON THE SLOTS/CHANNELS IN THEIR CLUBS. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF TM MARKETING MACHINE THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD THINK THEY THOUGHT UP THIS TECHNOLOGY.

I LIKE THE TM DRIVERS AND FIND THE MOVEABLE WEIGHTS FOR ME WORK BETTER THAN THE DRIVERS WITH ADJUSTABLE HOSELS (NIKE, TITLEIST, COBRA, ETC) SO I HAVE BEEN USING THEIR DRIVERS THE LAST FEW YEARS.

NOT SURE WHY THERE MARKETING CAMPAINGNS DRIVE ME NUTS SO MUCH....I GUESS BECAUSE IT IS SO IN YOUR FACE AND INSULTING THAT THEY EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THEIR CLAIMS OF YARDS GAINED YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT.

Wait a minute.

So a company that for all intents and purposes is trying to pick itself up off the mat, because their marketing is freaking terrible, is taking shots at the biggest golf company on earth? LOL

Not to mention the Las Vegas commercials are more flashy than anything TM has put out.

Threads like this kill me. Half the features on cars nowadays for example are stuff that was invented and stolen, or slightly changed. Nobody cares. If it's not patent infringement, it's not illegal. TM created adjustable weights, adjustable hosels, white heads etc etc and other companies follow, but they get no slack for it... Why the double standard? I guess everyone likes a ride on the bash TM bandwagon.

I said it was a dig, not that TaylorMade Golf was run by Satan :diablo:. Have you been experiencing anxiety or any other symptoms since you drank the KoolAid?

TM is a great company, but it invites some lighthearted jabbing by the extremes of marketing it uses. That is all this was.

All quality companies. Not just marketing. They are the "gold standard" except TM

Quality companies but Bose and Monster are not making better products for what they charge. Bose would be even less quality for more money. Great companies because they market well and have great design depts.
