CCM hockey sticks are pretty bad IMO. Their one pieces hockey sticks are like matcstick, they break all the time. I don't like neither their paterns (except that CrazyOvie one who's insane!)

But this one is so sharp, gotta try it.

Warrior hockey is the best if you want hockey stick.

I'm wondering what technology TM would bring to these hockey stick. In golf I thought it was mainly the shaft that does the whole work in the golf swing.
I'm an Easton guy myself....always have been. But yeah CCM suck. In fact their biggest user, Ovie, just switched to Bauer. Why? Because they kept breaking. No matter what they did to them, they couldn't keep them from breaking. He went thru moire sticks than anyone. Interested to see if that improved.
Yeah Bauer is the sh*t whenever it comes to equipment and hockey gear. They keep selling good hockey products for years. Remember Bauer/Cooper ? That was sick ! I will always remember a young Pavel Bure ou Saku Koivu in Cooper gear heheh ! Good old time !

The problem with CCM is they never had good hockey sticks (except the first Vector V110, the blue one). But I think their downfall was when they left the Tacks series(Better skates in the industry IMO with the old Bauer Supreme) for the Externo series then Vector... now the U+ are so ugly !

I'm working in a sports good company and their so bad. One of them broke because I mold one in the skate oven (don't know the good term in english ..). It melts in front of the customer, lol.

Since then, I'm sold to Graf ! Yep, their skates are pretty soft but since I play Beer league in college, I'm not used anymore to have 4 practices a week and 2 games on weekend so it's perfect.
you got it right, heat mold is the right term.

I played ice hockey in high school and college before quitting and taking up golf in 2001. I never played CCM hockey sticks, but I always used CCM Vacutack skates. For the sticks, I always used and trusted Easton aluminum sticks. I tried a Nike stick, but that wasn't as good as Easton. The CCM RBZ stick is a lot similar to, or maybe a copy of the Easton Synergy stick that came out around 2000. All carbon composite stick and shaft with a $200 price tag. Once you worn out the blade, you had to buy an all new stick. At least with the aluminum, once the blade wore down, you just had to heat it up, remove the old blade and pop in a new one for around $30 to $40.

Now, if TM wants to give me a CCM RBZ stick to test, I'll gladly dust off the old hockey gear....

Edit to post: As for the Ovie....wasn't that blade/stick found to be illegal?

That's actually pretty cool. Not sure I buy the "insane velocity" part, but good to see TM doing something for another sport.

The quality of ccm gear (mainly sticks and skates went way downhill when they were bought by Rbk. Until recently, most of the pros that represent rbk were using old (pre rbk buyout) ccm stick that were just painted in rbk graphics. The recent offerings by both companies have been less than durable. The skates though have improved as rbk and ccm have both gone back to a fit more similar to the old tacks. I still wear an old pair of tacks for coaching and that fit is hard to beat.

But what do you expect when a shoe/clothing company buys an equipment manufacturer and tries to do their own thing with it. At least nike was smart enough to let the bauer people run the show when they had bauer under their umbrella.

This new stick is interesting though, but seeing that my playing days are over, doubt I will be getting one. If they bring it out in a junior size/flex I might have to get my son to try it out. Problem with hockey sticks though is that very few retailers have an area where you can test the sticks. At least most golf stores have a simulator or some sort.

Unless I can score one from my hook up with the local AHL team, I am not going to be trying this. But getting a hook up on this is doubtful. I usually get RBKs that are a year or 2 old. I also coached a kid in HS who plays in the Flyers minor league system....I'll have to see if he can hook me up. Otherwise I'm sticking to my Eastons.... My whole life I have been an Easton Stick and glove guy and Bauer everything else. Plus I just coach now, so I really don't need a $300 stick for coaching.....

The blades really don't wear out. Stick could get a touch softer flex wise if you are playing a ton but that's it. Pretty sure you can't even get an aluminum shaft in 2012.

Ovechkin always used a questionable curve but you don't switch brands over that. Guys that play with more than legal curves will always have legal ones from the same brand on the bench.

Yeah Ovie switched because his CCM's kept breaking. They redesigned them several times and couldn't do anything about it. Plus he jst signed a huge endorsement deal with NIke, so the switch to Bauer made sense.

Also on a side note they better have super tight tolerances and the stick better perform. BEcause one thing I can tell you is that 99% of hockey players are waaaaaaay more OCD about their gear than golfers. And just because your paint it shiny white and slap a silly name on it, doesn't mean that they will use it.

That is correct. Addidas bought Reebok a couple of years ago.

Really? I had no idea. I wonder what the difference between the pro model and the retail will be. Also wonder the price point. Sometimes I get my sticks from my hook-up with the local AHL team, but if I can't I refuse to pay more than $130 bucks for a stick. Eastons now go for like $225. I can see this at the $250 or $275 price point which is insane for a stick that can break 1st time out.

Hershey. I live 10 mins away. I coach a player who is best friends with someone who's dad is high up their or something. One of those deals. Occasionally he scores me a stick....not as much as he used to. Also they usually sell game used sticks for dirt cheap. Since I just coach I usually find one that doesnt have any cracks in it or anything for like $50. Much better than paying full retail. But now my sticks last me forever. When I played I was always going thru them.

True, although when I played I was always tinkering. I played high school/travel in the late 90's/early 2000's. SO I used a graphite shaft and wood blade. I was always heating my blades over the stove and bending them under doors and what not. My parents used to get so pi$$ed, because they would come home and the whole house would stink like burnt wood and epoxy. The Synergy's which I used now only really became popular my last 2 years of college.

That brings back memories. I used to boil the blades after I almost burnt the kitchen down heating one over the element.

Yeah man....To this day there is a spot on the kitchen floor that melted a little when I put a hot blade under the closet door to bend it. My dad still brings it up every now and then 10 years later. Now I have a 3 year old who loves hockey. My dad said I can't wait till he starts melting sticks and cutting and destroying your house or smashing your garage door with pucks. My wife replyed, have no fear your son (menaing me) will probably be doing it right along with him.

Nowadays, there's actually no rules on illegal curves. I think they changed it when the new CBA was sign back in 2005.

This is one of CCM's last stands, marketing wise. They have been losing money for a long time now, and not being able to keep AO has a lot more to do with Bauer being the most profitable company in hockey right now and having the money to give him a better sponsorship deal, plus he can use tuuk holders again for his skates (which most hockey players grew up on and generally are preferred) then it does with sticks breaking. It's a cool cross-branding, but TMAG has nothing to do with the actual construction of these sticks, unlike how Aldila was making Mission sticks at one time. Those sticks incidentally had the most amazing shafts you'll ever find in hockey. Blades weren't worth a damn, but the shafts were killer.

OK to clear up some confusion here... Managed a hockey shop for a few years after college...

Reebok or RBK hockey is owned by Adidas. Which is why NCAA Teams like Michigan and Notre Dame who are Adidas schools use Reebok and CCM equipment. When Reebok wanted to get into the hockey business they needed a hockey company to buy because why start from nothing when you can just buy a current company who already has all you need. Thats what Reebok did, They bought guess who??? Thats right CCM...

Reebok and CCM equiment all come from the same place. Its designed by the same people in R and D and They are both owned by Adidas. Reebok put most of its time and effort into the Reebok line and it has neglected the CCM line. I believe this is simply a effort to try and gain some market share for the new CCM stick line. The hockey players out there know that Bauer, Easton, and Warrior dominate the stick market with Reebok and CCM not as huge. I believe last I saw Easton and Bauer alone had over 50% market share in the NHL and at retail. I also know its a horrible kept secret that Reebok hockey along with CCM hockey are for sale by Adidas. Just like Nike, they got in and realized they were not gonna have the sucess they thought.

So yes Adidas is just using a Huge asset in TM to help try and boost hype in another area of business. Very Cool Idea. Most hockey players are huge golfers so I can see that. But what happens when RBK Hockey is Dumped...

Adidas has TMAG, Reebok, CCM, and a ski company, cant remember which one...

And this is coincidental with Ovie's major drop in goal production.

Edit to post: As for OCD, I tend to believe that hockey players err majorly on the superstituous side. When I played, the gear always went on a certain way. When something broke before a game, like a skate lace, I'd score 3 or 4 goals. Hockey is really weird like that.

Yeah, agreed on the superstitions, and I'd say golfers are more equipment OCD than hockey but many people just don't care at all. Then there's places like WRX and modsquadhockey where the gear junkies congregate. Member of both BTW!

And Ovie's drop is more due to his inability to adapt as defenses keyed in on his tendencies than the curve of his stick (he's still using whatever curve he wants). Plus laziness IMO.
