SOB... Well, there goes all the Adams stuff for better players...

It would have been nice if Adams was purchased by a company trying to get into hard goods, rather than one just trying to monopolize the market.

i think its great... adams has some good products and tmag is only gonna make them better... even if just with marketing alone.
i know theres a lot of tmag haters out there but everyone makes good stuff now and the tmag marketing is whats needed to get your product into the hands of the masses. your average golfer isnt as knowledgeable as most WRXers so you pretty much have implant the idea of what to buy into those peoples heads.

i historically have not been a fan of tmag stuff. but im a recent convert after having a fitting in the performance lab here locally. amazing experience. and taylormades customer service has been incredible to deal with when trying to get something done. i am now a huge fan.

The first paragraph of the press release is troubling.....sounds like Adams will be relegated to making junk while TM makes all the cutting-edge stuff.
I hate TM.

That's the way I took it too. Hopefully I'm jumping the gun with that assumption. Guessing the Adams Pro Tech accounts are done too?

this is a good thing. ADAMS needed the help - TMAG had the cash. simple business. i feel that it is a great fit as both companies push the limits of innovation. great news for ADAMS keeping the facility/headquarters in TX.

since there are a few people opposed to this deal - what other company would you have liked acquiring ADAMS if not TMAG?
The difference between a company already entrenched in the golf business like TMAG and someone else like Under Armour or a PE fund buying Adams is primarily how the sale affects Adam's production focus.

As Barney Adams said, Adams will be able to leverage greater resources, but at the same time, they have to fit into TMAG's 'stable of brands', meaning they have to be complementary to their sales. Whereas Adams has cornered the game improvement, senior, ladies market, we here on Golfwrx all know and love their production of players hybrids, woods, drivers and irons (i'm sure there are wedge and Yes! putter lovers out there too). The problem is now that TMAG, through making this acquisition, has the power to dictate the focus of Adam's production. If we were placed in any sort of similar situation, buying a competitor, we too would alter their production focus so that they don't cannibalize the parent company's sales.

This gives us a basic clue into the future of Adams: “The proposed combination of Adams Golf and TaylorMade-adidas Golf brings together two highly complementary sets of brands, combining Adams' focus on game-improvement as well as senior and women golfers with TaylorMade-adidas Golf’s focus on the younger and the low-to-mid handicap golfer.”

TM isn't going to stop making GI clubs obviously, as we know it is a staple of their brand, but it seems like Adams will be gearing their focus more on the senior, GI, ladies market than it already is. Hopefully this is not at the expense of the players stuff (i'm not saying it will all go), but at this point it seems unlikely, as realistically no competent CEO would allow such cannibalization of sales.

Yes. And it is the RIGHT thing to do. Adams players clubs are a statistical zero in the market. They do not sell. Period. Now, I know knuckleheads will chime in to say "I see them everywhere!!" BS. I know the numbers, as does anyone in the business. This can only be good for Adams. If not this--the whole company is gone.

Under Armor was looking to buy Adams. That would have been a great company. The have the money, and could have gotten into the golf club industry.

OMG the dooms dayers in this thread are hilarious. They will "sink the ship" and "Bye Bye Adams" etc. They are spending 70 mil in cash and credit for this acquisition. I am sorry, but a few hybrid designs and yes putter patents aren't worth that. Might they go away from the CB and MB lines of players clubs? Maybe but the bread and butter of Adams has always been their hybrids and their hybrid Iron sets like the current A12.

Think whatever you want to about TMAG. But they are run by smart people on both the business end and the golf end. They arent going to throw away millions in a effort to destroy a company who wasn't much competition for them anyway. They would have been better off hoping a failing enterprise would have picked off Adams and have it die that way. They want the market share for GI equipment that Adams brings to the table. They aren't throwing out the baby with the bath water, They are gonna scrub that thing clean, put a bow in it's hair and make it look as good as it can! My goodness people, love 'em or hate 'em, it's freaking TMAG we're talking about.

Under Armour had no interest in a company with a 6% profit margin. I'm not guessing. They quit sniffing weeks ago. The financials on Adams are terrible.

This is awesome now I can look forward to a new Adams line being launched every 3 days and a bunch of commercials with tour players saying the driver I bought 3 days ago is obsolete.

Side note did anyone else find that R11s commercial to be slightly odd? The same players that were pushing people to buy the R11 6 months ago are basically saying its no good anymore?

I think this is the most telling post.

Any company that acquires another will be wise to simply takes what works, and jettison what doesn't. Adams has (had) a niche that TMaG didn't, and Adams players clubs simply didn't sell, no matter how much R&D they put into it. They can't escape the "senior brand" label. That was simply evidenced on this very board. Well, it's time for an advertising infusion to capitalize on that and focus on under-represented segments of the golfing public.

I hope its not like when Cally bought Hogan, and discontinued them. Adams makes some great players clubs, and I hope they continue to do so.
Exactly what i thought too. I remember Callaway saying that their purchase of Hogan would only enhance the brand, they had no intentions of discounting it. Yeah right.

TMAG will cherry pick the good stuff, eliminate the rest, and dissolve the brand in 3-5 years completely.
Goodbye Adams.

Bingo. As for the person that "leaked" it back on the 8th, you'd probably do well by not ever doing that again.

Adams was actually putting out clubs at a pretty fast clip last year (they put out 4 drivers). TMaG never did that.

Curiouser and curiouser.

While TM might just take the patents and let Adams golf dissipate (which I hope does not happen), that isn't the end of the world. If you play an Adams golf club now, it is mainly because of the technology right? So who cares what name is stamped on the bottom of the club if the technology is the same?

I am really hoping that YES! putter technology will make it to TM putters but not sure since they have been really focused on their Pure Roll system. That being said, isn't the new YES! lineup already consisting of some white/ghosted putters?

This is a very smart move by TM golf though. They are about to really distance themselves in the #1 driver played category if they can correctly find a combination of their technology and Adams technology. Should be interesting.

Obviously, Taylormade was so crushed seeing Kenny Perry go, they had to do something.
I think Kenny went to Adams as TM's Froward Recon agent. He never "really" left TaylorMade.
Hello, I'm Perry, Kenny Perry. I'd like to jump ship from a company I've been with for years. Could you show me all your inner workings.
Sure, I'll hit your new stuff that says Adams on it. (for now..Heh, Heh..)
