Golfers in Austin, TX

Not a member but know the place, members and business model very well. Questions about it or just looking for a game?

Going this weekend to play golf in the area. Current clubcorp member and have tee times at The Hills Signature and Flintrock courses, just need a little help getting some morning tee times at the Lakeway courses.

I know I posted earlier about Lakeway County Club but I've been told they are having an event so I am looking for a round I can join up with someone if they would be willing to let me play with them. Again, also playing The Hills course Friday and Saturday afternoon if anyone would like to join just PM.

Let's round out this foursome! I'm in for Friday afternoon if anyone else around town wants to play Flintrock.

Have an opening for jimmy clay Friday at 9am if anyone wants to join. Just me, none of my buddies have off

Had planned to play kizer that morning. One better than the other?

Its all a matter of preference.

Do you like a links style course? Then go with Kizer.

Do you prefer a somewhat tighter course with lots of trees? Then go with Clay.

I played Clay last Saturday and it was in good shape. FWs were a little tight/hard and greens were in good shape.

The FWs may be better in Kizer, but the greens are comparable.

I was planning on going back out to Clay or Kizer Friday (day off), but 9AM may be a little late. Need to be done by 12:30, not sure that's possible on either course.

^^^^Agree, Clay is more challenging, those pesky trees always get in the way. Kizer doesn't punish you that way. Most of the time, it doesn't matter where you hit your drive, you'll always have a shot at the green.

Honestly will probably stick with Kizer then. I like links style courses and my home club is very penal so having a chance to spray it a bit sounds a bit more fun! appreciate your responses.

Don't get me wrong, there are some tight holes with danger in Kizer, #2 par 5 has water on the right all the way down to the green and OB on the left (OB is not really an issue unless you hook it). #5 par 4, you have to go over water, not too much of an issue. #7 par 4 with water on the right, so watch your slice. #11 par 4 (should be a par 5, I hate this hole) has water on the left as you approach the green. #13 par 3, over water. #16 par 5, hang your drive off to the right, before the hill, this will give you a decent shot at the green. My favorites are #14 Par 5 and 18 par 4.

Kizer has more do-or-die tee shots than Clay (#2, #4, #5, #7, #11, and #18) and ZERO bad/uninteresting holes. It's a golf course where you generally have plenty of room, but if you want to get it close—especially when the greens are firm—you need to position yourself for success.

With only 3 par 5s (two of which are often extremely difficult to reach in 2 shots because of the wind), Kizer isn't gonna give you anything for free.

I hit driver in the 330 range, and I feel like I can overpower Clay far more than I can overpower Kizer (where the wind is a much more significant factor).

People will scoff at this, but Kizer is one of the best courses I've ever played. We are incredibly lucky to have such a fine public option in Austin. The only thing I'd change is adding some tiers/contours to a few greens; other than that, it's a hell of a golf course and a great test for any skill level.

So it will feel wide open compared to Falcon Point!

Kizer is the "drunk tank" after getting a DUI.

Falcon Point is solitary confinement in a federal pen.

Last I heard, Palmilla Beach was closed until "sometime in April" due to damage from hurricane Harvey.

I'd give em a call and see if anyone can update you on their current progress and expected opening date.

Last I heard in the beginning of this month is that they haven’t even begun to regrass due to insurance hold ups

So disappointing to hear.. That course was a gem out in there. Hope it makes its way back soon.

Played muny today. Not in great shape. Had been punched recently and was very shaggy. Course was painfully slow.

I know this is blasphemy, but every time I play there I leave more and more disappointed

On the flip side... mo willy looking pretty decent! Little shaggy, but greens are showing some promise.

I do wish we could get Ben on rejuvenating Lions. Would be nice to see. Hell, willy is a great layout... could be a great track with some TLC.

No shame in this game. I live across the street from Lions, but I'll play fewer than 8% of my rounds there this year.

The turf conditions are subpar; the greens are uninteresting with near ZERO internal contours (they are all just big slopes); and there are brutal rocks near (or in) the playing corridor on almost every hole.

You'd think it'd be easier to score on such a short course...

Mo Willie is a fantastic layout but it doesn’t drain at all.

There is a spring running under the course across 10, 15, 16, 17, and 2. I don't know if it's due to the Mueller construction or what, but the spring has been quite "pregnant" for the past 2-3 years.

Even when the rest of the course is dry, this particular corridor can still be quite sloppy.

Generally speaking, I love the course—especially the green contours. Assuming they are able to keep the greens in better shape this year (and they are already rounding into form), Mo Willie will be an absolute joy to play this summer.
