Just got my tour driver and fairway to try. Has anyone hit this compared to the 913 d3? I got fit into a 7.5 in that head, I'm hoping this is lower spin so I can use it at 8.5 or even 9.5.

Driver looks awesome. Very sweet shape. You do notice the swoosh but it looks good. This from someone who tends to like the most classic of classic looking drivers- my crews in the bag at the moment is the closest thing to 460cc 975d that's ever been made.

Three wood looks ok. The hosel does look chunky. Not as bad as the old dymos drivers but bigger than you'll choose, it blends in much neater onn the driver.

The next step is working out how to pull the tips without ruining them.
Will give some feedback after I try them on the course on Saturday.

Will try and do some this evening. It looks good and very easy to hit. Just a little chunky in the hosel. In fact I was surprised just how easy to hit it looks. Much more along the lines of the vrs rather than the vr ltd in size.

My rep did come in today and I got to hit some of the new clubs. We were really busy, so I didn't get to test as much as I would have liked. First thing I hit was the Covert 7 iron in stiff steel. The club does not look bad at all at address. Around the same size as the VRS forged. Club felt pretty good at contact. Not harsh at all. The shafts are a little longer at stock length, so that might take some getting used to (this seems to be a trend for irons these days). I made a few swings at the 4 iron and it was very easy to get up in the air. More so than my VRS Forged 4 iron (probably alot to do with the 90 gram shaft vs my DGS300).

Then grabbed the Covert Tour with Kuro Kage 60 S set at 10.5 N (which I think is how it is set std). I wish I could say that I really bombed one with this thing, but truth is I wasn't swinging very good and only caught one or two solid. Those two balls felt great. Sound is good too. Like many have said, the tour is very low launch. The two I hit solid were 8 and 9 deg launch angles (if I remember correctly). I didn't get time to really play around with the Flex-loft adjustment, but it seemed very easy to adjust.

The Covert Performance was in regular flex, but I grabbed it to compare the feel of the two drivers. Only got two swings in with it, but it felt really good too. The 50 gram R flex (set at 10.5 as well) got the ball up to about a 13/14 launch angle.

I hit the tour fwy a couple of times, but not really enough to pass judgement. Felt solid, but didnt' really get to study the numbers on the simulator.
I didn't hit the hybrid at all. I'm not a fan of the shape of either the tour or the performance version. They both look too long toe-heel or something.

Pics of the new staff bag look really cool.

If you start at the very 1st post where all the photos and videos are of the Covert driver, fairway & hybrid there are handheld photos of both the tour & performance fairway wood.

My good friend owns a golf shop and it’s the exact same thing. He was saying that every year it’s all about the new TM driver and that this has been the first year since he has been open that ALL the buzz is about Nike. If the performance on the Covert matches the hype, it will easily be Driver of the year and perhaps Nike’s biggest selling driver ever.

Agreed- and they've had several solid drivers in the past that were basically overlooked. These won't be

Rule 4-2 a. states - during a stipulated round, the playing characteristics of a club must not be purposely changed by adjustment or by any other means.

I have become a Titleist guy over the past three years, but I must admit that these new Nike clubs look good to my eye.

The irons look, from behind, like my AP1's, and like them at address as well, except perhaps a bit more compact. If so, I could play them easily. The Dynalite 90 shaft could work just fine as I will be 60 next year. In fact, I hit that shaft in the new Cobra Amp irons, on a day that I demo'd the Rocketbladz. I liked the shaft in the Amps so much that ordered a 5, 6, and 7-iron to try for real on the golf course next spring.

I am looking for a 3-wood that I can also play as a 4-wood, particularly when I walk and carry only 10 or 11 clubs. The Covert 3-wood might fill that spot.

I am somewhat concerned about the driver. A gentleman who used to design driver heads told me that a round design gives better energy transfer than other designs. This is probably why square heads were a flop; as well, the HiBore drivers with the scoop taken out of the top were probably less than perfectly efficient in this regard. The Covert design looks to be a combination of a traditional design from the top, and a face with heel and toe "wings" on the bottom. I am concerned that the energy transfer will suffer, in some way, from tis design. As a matter of fact, it would not surprise me if Tiger and Rory played an earlier generation driver head.

NO, I am quite serious. If I start a competitive round with 12 clubs, I have every right to stop at my car after nine holes and change my driver or my putter, or both. That would simply be adding a 13th and 14th club to my bag, which is my right according to the rules.

So, what is the difference between going to the car for a different driver, or simply pulling out the wrench and making an adjustment?

Think about it.

I've hit the VrS Covert Tour and Performance drivers along with the TM R11s and Titleist 910 D3. All stock OEM setup with a stiff shaft, 10.5 loft or set to 10.5 loft and face angle set in the most neutral position. Hit six shots with each driver, launch numbers captured with TrackMan and good weather during the session.

I don't hit the ball hard, club speed in the 94-95 mph range; ball speed 142-143 mph, but fairly consistent contact with Smash Factor usually at 1.49 or 1.5.

For me the Covert Performance was 7-10 yards longer than the R11s and 910; it was longer than the Covert Tour as well. The Covert Tour is a low launch and low spin head; not a good combination for my low swing/ball speed. The Covert Tour was the shortest carry distance of the four drivers however both of the VrS Covert drivers produced better ball speed than the TM or Titleist.

I have my TrackMan numbers somewhere; I'll find them post a summary of the 6 shot averages. 7-10 yards longer is huge for me since I don't hit it very far to begin with. This driver for sure will be in my bag.

I like the red color so that is a non-issue, the white Swoosh on the heel is not distracting and Nike got the sound right on both of these heads. The feel.........very solid. When you get the opportunity to give these Covert a try I think you'll like the performance.
Shouldn't you have compared the Covert Performance to the 913 D2? Apples to apples? Just sayin'.

Having said that, I am going to make that exact comparison, as I already have the 913 D2 and like it very much from the 3 times that I have played it in the past few weeks.

Performance counts, and I think this Nike-Driver has the potential to outperform the current offerings.

For example. The new 913 is nothing better as the 910, no innovation and same performance.

I will wait for the new offerings and a test will show, which driver fits my swing best.
That is not quite exactly true. I have both the 910 D2 and 913 D2. The 913 looks just a tiny bit different - a tad closed and shallow - and the 913 performs a bit better on heel hits for me. so, for me it is a bit of an improvement.

Hit the tour driver, wood, and hybrid yesterday.

The red is sweet! The swoosh you don't see when you are setting up. The red is better than the white.

The driver is a bit loud due to the cavity in the back. I'm sure I could get used to it but I'm used to the butter feel and sound of my Cleveland Classic. Numbers were good and getting good smashes. Pretty large sweetspot, consistently getting above 1.47 smash on Trackman. Hard to tell total distance because they didn't have any other shafts to hit. Ball speed was as good as my Cleveland Classic with a whiteboard x.

The 3 wood is awesome. The 3 wood I will definitely look into once it comes out. The face is extremely hot. Small head, deep face. I like the black face with the white grooves on the bottom. The ability to change the loft without changing the lie angle and face angle of the club is amazing as I always switch clubs out due to course set up. The numbers were as good as a rocketballz when compared with close matching shafts. I would say its a no brainer to get one if you are in the market for a wood, as they have the same numbers as the speed slot stuff and has adjustablility that no one else has.

I'm not a hybrid player as I like to play long irons and a 5 wood. The hybrid is like the wood, and is a really good club.

When this stuff comes out, I think it will put Nike on the map. I will be looking for the 3 wood when it comes out. Can't wait to hit it set on 13* neutral with a pro launch red x!

Tried the Covert Tour driver and three fairway last night at the range. Loved the driver. The headshape is just absolutley spot on. Beautiful round pear shape, probably closest to something like a cleveland launcher 310, but maybe a fraction deeper. If this was black or grey everyone would be raving about the look. I like the red paint, looks awesome. Could have done without the swoosh but it doesn't look bad. Think it will encourage an into out swing path for many which is a good thing.

Feels great, not quite raxr hawk tour soft, but a nice solid feel. It wasn't noisy at all either. I hit the ball high and spinny but the 8.5 looked like a great flight albeit with range balls.when i adjusted it to the higher lofts the flight was higher, but spin still looked controllable. The shaft felt ok. Nothing special. I've found all the kuro kage shafts pretty dead in feel.
Because the head is quite compact looking, the shaft fels really long. I think it's 46 inches, which is too long. I felt like I was a mile away from the ball.

Effectively this is a square driver, the crown just hides this is very well. And I found the ball did want to stay pretty straight.

Need to get this driver on the launch monitor, taken apart and rebuilt. I'm thinking BB7X Untipped at about 44.75. I think this is a gamer. The only other driver thats got me excited and I've only held it, is the Razr Fit Extreme- It looks like a ft tour, which to my mind is the greatest driver I ever had.

Now the three wood needs some testing. The KK70 felt a little better in the fairway head. It's a big head, and the hosel looks chunky on the fairway but blends in on the driver. Felt a little dead. set at 17 I was hitting good shots. Set at 13 I was hitting high shots, almost as high as the 17, but without the consistency. I tend to play a stronger three and have no issue geting them off the deck.

I like the idea of a large headed thee wood, as I think the visual difference between driver and three wood is very awkward what with the size difference, but I keep finding that I hit a smaller three wood better, especially off the deck. Jurys out, but I think I'm sticking with my royal collection fairway. Will test again though.

I don't think it's going to be tough to pick a driver this year, the Nike has been ALL anyone is talkign about in my circles. That's highly unusal as none of us have any Nike equipment.

+1

The only open question is the stock length of the Covert and is the weight port removeable (esp. if shorten the shaft)????

I think looking at it this it will be possible to open up. Much like the rbz can be got into. Interestingly on the fairways there is a little star port in the cavity for access to the head. It's smaller than the wrench that comes with it but its definitely accessible.

    • Titleist GT drivers - 2024 the Memorial Tournament
Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
