The 9th at my home club is ok (probably not my favourite hole, but always takes your breath away, and is a real challenge in a monsoon wind off the back tees (150-200 yards). The green is about 45 paces long.

# 18 At the course I used to run. Par 3 plays about 120 to the middle of the green, elevated tee onto a small island green. A moat all the way around with a pond in front. Fairly simple hole to play but when the round is riding on it or a few bucks that green looks like a bottle cap. I saw many a club go into that pond over the years.

For anyone who lives in Ohio it called sugar isle country golf. New Carlise Ohio.

# 1 is a 400 yard par 4. Fairly straight but has a pond on both sides of the fairway about 200 yards out. Lay up or thread the neddle, your choice.

Many a round has started with a double bogey at that course. Or ended with one.

Handicap 7.7

There are so many its hard to say.

#12 double dog leg par 5 at the Air Force academy(silver course)

#18 at kapalua.

Right now those are the two sticking out in my mind.

My favorite hole no longer exists. In Aztec New mexico ther was a 9 hole 18 tee box course I was a member of in the 80's We had a shourt par four about 400 with a 60 foot elevated tee to a tight tree lined flat fairway, then the green was on a hill side above an arroya with a split level green. ther was 12' in elevation between the two levels. If you hit to high into the slop of the elevation change on the green it was difficult to hold the green but by the same token if the flag was on the lower tier you had a reasonable chance to use the slope to get the ball close to the flag. I had 7 eagles on that hole in a five year period. but there is no telling how many double bogies I had form not holding the green and ending up in the arroya.

They redesigned the course to a full 18 hole course in the late 90s and that hole done away with. It is a shame as it was a difficult yet fun hole

The 5th at Shelly Beach GC in Australia. Runs along the beach (OB along the left), blind drive to a reasonably generous fairway that slopes toward OB for the first half but flattens out further down. Depending on the wind anything from a 5 to a wedge home, "valley of sin" in front. Plays into the prevailing wind, or at least always seemd to!

Great views all the way.

A-graders often played the wrong way up the adjacent fairway - avoided OB and gave you a downhil view at the green, but bunkers along the playing line from there.

It's where I learned the game from my grandmother (vale, Nelly)

My favorite hole that I have actually played is #18 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Of the ones I've seen only on TV, #18 at Pebble Beach. Although #7 is nearly a tie on beauty alone, the difficulty of the drive under pressure on 18 gives it the edge for me.

Favorite hole that I've played: #12 at Wolf Creek in Mesquite, NV. 560 yard, risk/reward par five. Elevated tee in the desert air makes it reachable in two. Water follows the fairway on the left, then another lake behind the green to the right. The green itself is 55 yards long, so they can stretch it out even farther, if they want to, with a back pin location. You can make eagle or double just as easily on this hole... fantastic view, too.

Favorite hole to watch: #17 at Sawgrass. Nothing like seeing the worlds best stress over a 120 yard wedge!

Thanks! It never gets old. Add in the elk, deer, bears, coyotes, etc that are permanent residents and it is truly a special place. Just celebrated our 100th anniversary last year. Stanley Thompson at his finest. :)

# 13 at Inkster Valley. Wide open, dogleg left par 5. Only hole I've ever played where I never, ever worry about where the ball is going off the tee. I know when I get to that tee, I'm loading up and trying to give myself a hernia, and I'll pretty much be ok with just about any shot I hit (besides, with all the wetlands and doglegs, I'm usually about ready to blow off some steam by the time I get there). If I catch it, I have a shot to get home with an iron. If not, I still have a good shot at birdie.

I'll chuck in the 16th at Da Nang Golf Club, Vietnam. One of Norman's best lay outs and could be straight out of the Melbourne sand belt.

My favorite hole I've played is 17 at Paa Ko Ridge outside of Albuquerque. Gorgeous 430 yard par 4 with a downhill tee shot, but the view behind to the mountains is simply stunning. Most beautiful course/scenery I've ever played.

The 8th at Pebble is pretty sweet (Nicklaus's favorite hole) but then again so is 7,9,10 and 18. If you want pure subtle difficulty then the 5th hole at Pinehurst #2 is sheer genius. It looks like an average par 4 standing on the tee box....5-7 strokes later you are left scratching your head. I have played the hole twice, the first time lets not talk about it, the 2nd time I made birdie. My caddy told me he sees about one or two birdies a year on the hole.
