I am by no means a scotty hater, but i really find this putter silly. I think its cool to own a limited edition piece, but there really isn't anything special about this putter. They really didn't put much effort into this. They just grabbed some "limited edition" paint fill and threw it on a golo. Its even the same exact finish! I do like a few of his limited releases, but this one is just plain silly.

And then again its genius. They now have such a cult following that they can make nominal changes to preexisting models and sell it for double without needing to design/make a new or discontinued model.
Yep, No one is in the position to tell anyone else how to spend their income. Rediculous to say the lest. Much like the Vette people mentioned earler (almost all marques have those that play and those that show), I'm a fan of function over form. I can't see spending that much for a putter, but I'm not going to say others shouldn't.

I can understand the appeal of SC putters. I can understand how people buy based on name and reputation. Not for us to say it's dumb, stupid, etc... on how others decide to spend their $$.

Keeping the prices "low" is the way to increase demand, knowing they'll sell for much more (hopefully) in the future.

Smart, especially on something (just a swag here for conversation) that probably costs close to $25-$40 in raw materials each, $10K-$25K for tooling, labor and overhead being the most expensive, probably looking at around 300% markup all told being $650 ea, with 750 units.

There are fans, and then there are .. FANS. I equate them to Apple fans. They just gotta have "the new hotness".

--kC
I like your post, but I would say Apple fans would be a bad comparison. A 1Gig I Pod from years ago couldn't be sold now for 3 times what you paid for it, and instantly in most cases on the Bay. There also isn't a forced obsolescence built into Cameron's putters. I think it would be better to compare people who collect Cameron's to people who collect works of art.

"Fans" will spend money on the new hotness, doesn't matter if they appreciate or depreciate, being that they're high ticket items both. A couple new SCs a year, new macbook year/other year. All equals out in the end.

I'm not saying if it's good or bad, and it'd your decision if you want to spend the money on your tools. Looking at them as an investment? Your decision. (Some use their new Macs to make money too...not just for homework or surfing the net.) ;)

Some of you guys just don't get it. Getting one of these for retail price is a gift. It's instantly worth double what you paid for it, and double that again in four years in new condition.
And some people don't get that you can't buy items like this and bank on them going up in value. I will agree that if you flip it immediately, you will probably make some decent money. But what if Scotty Cameron were to have some horrible personal scandal, what happens then? What if you get a limited edition Rors 009 and he leaves for another OEM half a year later, will the price go up or down? There's no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to investments, and that especially goes with something like a golf club or putter head cover that has so many factors that could determine what it could be worth in the future.

LOL

And what if either the Mayans or chicken little are right, and the world ends or the sky falls. Who we gonna sell our putters to then? :-)

The guy in the post directly above mine that I was responding to, making a putter sound like a government savings bond that you buy for $50 and know will be worth $100 in 4 years rather than the golf club that it is.

My thinking was a lot simpler than many of you... a mallet head with a plumbers neck in a finish that I like = interest to obtain one to actually play with it. Haha.

He never said it was a sure thing. You are exaggerating to make a point that I'm not even sure has to be made?
In regards to the appreciation of Cameron products, we have seen a steady trend of upward earnings toward the buyer on almost all products since the late 90s. I guess yes something could happen, but right now there is no better product in golf to buy that has shown over a decade the ability to hold its value and also protect the economy and consumers around the product. To your point nothing is ever 100% for sure but again I give all of us enough credit here that we don't need to debate the obvious.

The way our economy is going my Cameron collection will probably be worth more than my 401K in a few years lolz.

Sorry for posting an opinion neutral to/negative of Scotty Cameron. You guys can go back to passing the tray of Kool-aid, I'll get out of the way.

Ill just throw in my opinion, but only the limited release models hold their value like TDO is suggesting. I used to TRY to collect these things. Just look at his putters like the Red X, the Futura, the Circa 62 line, or the Studio Design. Heck, just check ebay for "scotty cameron putters' and you get a bunch of putters for 150 bucks. The ONLY way you can make money on a Scotty is by sending it to the Custom shop or getting something limited, both of which require an additional sum of money for Cameron. I enjoy his putters, I enjoy my GOLO mid as a practice tool, but I enjoy my Byron a little more.

LOL

One of my favorite Cameron's in my office is still the black Phantom Futura. Pretty much worthless for resale, but I'm never getting rid of it anyway. There are those who love to make money on Camerons, and those who love to game them. I'm sure the same can be said for all companies... Who cares just so we're happy...

Exactly my point! There are people who buy to USE them. I love my Tei, Studio design, and that GOLO. What TDO is saying is that they are an investment. Scotty's arent quite gold. The Scotty "bubble" will burst one day when people realize it is just a golf club, made to move a ball (usually) a maximum of 100 ft. I understand people love to collect them, but from my perspective, I cant see what would make me ever want a putter like this unless it makes one more putt a round for me.

I'm playing a Golo S right now, that I got a great deal on, and I don't think I'd buy this one, but only because I don't care for the shaft design. I really like that head with a center shaft.

Onto pricing. Aren't some of the guys here spending that much on multiple clubs in their bag? $400 driver with a $400 shaft? $900 irons with another $500-$600 in shafts? In the grand scheme of things, is that really that expensive? (Especially given that in decent shape after being gamed for a year, these will likely still sell for above $400)
I agree on the center shaft. Never could get into this shaft design and didn't like the Golo for a long time. Tried the center shafted version and love it.

Picked one up out of the very few that made it to Canada and 1 of the 12 that made it to retail in Canada.
Should have it tomorrow. Picked it up because when I found out it was a completely lack shaft and bottom shaft section with a leather grip and shaft ring. This thing is awesome.

I liked the color scheme better when Bettinardi did it last year in their SS series.

Orange and brown/gray for the next limited release Scotty then?

Agreed.

I think a lot of people see how passionate Cameron fans are and get upset there is nothing they feel that strongly about, so they try to de value it. It's sad.

As I said, I don't really give a rats a** what someone does with their money. :)

I was just carrying on the meme of #passivebrag that's all over the fourm, and it's more of having fun and less about taking things seriously. It's all we can do for those up here in the snow belt, because our courses are covered/unplayable/closed for the season. Letting off some bottled energy!! :D

Those that don't like it? Think it over played? Well, we know who can't take a joke now and #stuffyvoice "golf is for serious people and should always be taken seriously when talked about. Harumph!"
