Awesome write up. For how close it was, I'm surprised that the RFE won. Nudges me closer to trying one, but as I just posted in another thread, I'm still not sure. The 913 line to me looks better top to bottom, but interestingly enough, I found the same results as you did - consistency with just decent distance.

Great write up JJK! I really think for the niche of players in the market specifically for these heads in low lofts (8.5/7.5) you really can't go wrong and it really comes down to what you need at your course. The RFE looks and feels incredible, different than the 913 so again, personal preference lol :) Since I'm OCD about my driver and fairways matching, the FD put the 913's over the RFE overall.. but again, splitting hairs, both are so good!

That was the main theme for the review, what works for your game and what do you use your driver for. Because driver isn't really my strength I'm not using it on a ton of holes. And when I do use it, it better give me a distinct distance advantage or at least make me feel that I am. I have the 14.5* 3deep coming so that will be my control option off the tee without losing too much distance. Overall, I think the 913 line from top to bottom may be superior but I don't have an issue mixing and matching a little. I'll have the RFE, 3deep,and then a Mizzy 650 5 wood.

sounds like a broken record - but great write up, and love hearing further confirmation to what others (and i) have seen. all this being said i am leaning 913d3/covert tour. when my friend gets his covert performance in i plan on trying the 7.2TS in the covert tour.
Thanks, I'll be closely following your results with the Covert Tour. It was far and away the best driver I was hitting on the monitor but on the course it was a little underwhelming. I'm sure it will be better with a Speeder and it will probably be a mid-season option for me if I decide to change things up. I'll be keeping both my 6.2 and 7.2 around because they really change a club for me and it was a mistake to sell a driver without trying these in it first.

Thanks bud. I'm anxious to see what you can do with this RFE with a real shaft in it. Sounds like the Trinity was hooky for you.
You're absolutely right. They are both so close but I was struggling a little with the review trying to focus on the differences without having bias towards one or the other. Both of these drivers are at the top of the class in almost every category for me and are without a doubt two of the very best drivers I have ever hit. I didn't want to make it seem like the 913 was short, the way I had it set up it was probably one of the longer drivers I have hit. The RFE just happens to be probably the longest I have hit and that ended up being the deciding factor because almost everything else was basically a push and came down to preference.

I usually have no problem mixing and matching a little bit. Right now I'm looking at going RFE, 3deep, Mizuno 650 (total sleeper BTW, almost like the Nike's last year) at the top end of the bag. If the 3deep ends up being a failed experiment, the FD will be on the short list along with XHP to replace it.

FWIW - I thought the 3 Deep looked way better at address than the XHP, I think for what you're looking for the 3 Deep might be the one. FD is pretty strong off the tee as well, and also the Stage 2 RBZ.

Have you had a chance to hit the 3deep yet? I'd be interested to hear how it compares to the FD off the tee. I can already tell the FD will be better off the ground.

I didn't. My local store had them in a while ago and I saw it, was intrigued, but the FD is so good for what I need it to do, I just didn't want to further complicate things :)

Got some more swings with the RFE and it's locked in. Also got my 3deep in the mail and hit it as well. 14.5* with UST V2 85x as a no upcharge option. I have a couple speeders (7.2 TS or 8.1 VC) ready to go in though.

Initial thoughts on the 3deep:

I brought it out to the range with my TEE CB2 13*. I had no issues with hitting the 3deep 14.5* off a mat (all shots with both clubs were off a mat) and it carried 5-10 yards further than my old Nike LTD 15*, same flight, less spin, more roll-out I could hit this plenty high as well. My CB2 13* is harder to hit off the ground/mat and much more inconsistent with carry yardage and direction. If I catch it right with the CB2 it is a good 10+ yards longer on carry with a lower flight but overall, it carries slightly less on average. Felt easy to shape the 3deep in either direction and the trajectory is very consistent.

Off the tee I'd imagine that this will be somewhere between my CB2 13* and my old Nike LTD. The TEE is dangerously close at times (10-15 yards) to my old Adams F12 LS and the Nike was about 20-25 yards shorter, I'd expect the 3deep to be 15 yards short of my Adams off the tee and probably more like 20 short of the new RFE. Not quite sure how much longer than the Adams the RFE is on average yet. Either way I am not finding that I will have an issue with the 3deep being too close to my driver. That's why I got the 14.5, it gives me good gaps and is easier to hit off the ground. Looking forward to killing the par 5's this year.

Find that XXPP7 and toss it back in that Deep. That was pretty neat. I'm running old wedges but the shafts are "cool". You could always use those handles with streamers that hang off kids bikes as grips. That would class up the joint, huh?

I'm definitely due for some new wedges, probably T4's based on how the irons are going. The XXPP7 was fun until I started hitting that thing all over the place. Surprisingly the stock 6.5 is working well and the R1 is solid, as much as I hate to admit it.

Sorry to disappoint but it's been a slow fall for me. Had a minor rib injury that hindered my swing so I didn't play too much. Just getting back into it now though. Here's the current bag:

photo_zps992ece44.jpg

what fairways do you have in the bag now?

No fairways or driver right now. Sold them off when I figured out I wouldn't be playing much this fall. Completely open to all suggestions. You still liking those Stage 2 woods better than the SLDR? My MP4's are going nowhere. How are you liking yours?

Please update us....

Not too much new right now. This time of year I'm always following threads like your's, JW's and Tai's to see what I need to buy for next year. What's in the picture above is pretty much locked, although I've been wanting to try the KBS Tour V. I have a 54* SM5 as well but it needs to be broken in, too much spin on full shots when the grooves are brand new. Really happy with the 60L though. Have you had much time to try out the 915 and DBD with the new addition to the family?

Only a few rounds so far with the 915, my early assessment is that it's long and low spin across the entire face with really good ball speed. The sound and feel are different than what I am used to. The jury is still out though, I need more rounds before I make a final decision. DBD is good but I need less loft than the stock head, I want to test it with some other shafts but have not had the chance. My plan is too be patient with the 915 until I am hitting the driver a little better, lack of rounds and practice has me struggling. If I'm still not sold I will look into the R15's, revisit the DBD and try a few others.
