Staff Bags

Recommended Posts

What's the deal?
Just out of curiosity....I see a lot of chatter on here with regards to staff bags. Obviously I can see their purpose on tour, but I'm interested as to why they're so popular with everyone on here. I'm no newbie to golf...but I definitely am not up to speed in the world of staff bag adoration.

So, here are some questions I have:

What do you use it for?
-are you using it as just a bag to use on a cart?
-do you use it for display purposes in your humble abodes?
-is it the bag you use full time?
-Is it just a collectors item?

How do you choose your staff bag?
-Do you base it on the majority of clubs you play?
-Perhaps pick your favourite brand?
-Do you buy based on how it looks, regardless of brand?

...and finally

Are there any staff bag faux pas?
-If one plays Callaway clubs, for instance, is it taboo for him/her to use a Taylor Made staff bag?
-Should headvovers match the bag's colour scheme?

Now, by no means am I knocking non-tour golfers that use them...I truly am trying to gain a better perspective on the whole thing.

I have a large Staff bag, and I use it in all aspects, on a power cart, if i walk it is on a pull cart or if I have a caddie then it's carried (by the caddie of course). It is also nice to have a bag that when placed on the floor in my office stands upright in the corner, and not leaning over taking up room, althought this was not a buying or selling point, just something that is nice. I chose my bag based on the deal my CPGA firend gave me $50, I also play ping irons, so a Ping bag made sense, if I hadn't played any ping clubs I am not sure I would have bought it. I do like the way Staff bags look, and it is one of the reasons I choose to own one. I also love the room, I can take out and put in my clubs with ease, and carry anything I need to. Hell I could probably fit a 6 pack in it if I wanted to. It's a PING fitment Staff bag so it is huge 12" appose to the regular 10"(as you can see if you click my Sig.) I make those caddies earn there tips. LOL.

I like the looks and convenience of the staff bag. I hoof it around in my Sun Mountain Speed cart and with my name on the bag, there is less chance of some scumbag stealing my clubs.

This is the exact model I own.

I might be able to get an r7 staff bag for cheap, but I don't play Taylor Made clubs at the moment. I have been thinking of switching up this season and getting the R7 TP irons and perhaps an r7 Driver, but it's just a thought at this point.

I could probably even get my name put on it for pretty cheap too

The more I think about it (and the more responses I read), I can understand why a Staff Bag might be a cool investment :drinks:

Did someone say and R7 bag :drinks: The Taylor Made bags are by far the nicest Staff bags made. What kind of deal do you have on one $$$ If you thought to not get it because of no TM clubs, if the deal was good enough I would be willing to buy it off you. What color scheme are you looking at?

I've actually wanted an r7 driver for a while now, and the new r7 TP irons are quite nice. Really wish those older Rac TP Forged irons came in left handed though....LOVE the look of those babies.

That is way to funny I wanted the same irons the TM RAC TP Muscle backs, unreal nice clubs, I went so far as to send email after email to Taylor Made, but the cost of making the cast is apparently not worth what they would get out of LH clubs. That bag is a real eye catcher, I'm sure you would make more than one person jealous with that slung over your arm. :drinks:

Does anyone here actually carry their own staff bag? I'm not talking about caddy or pull cart....I'm talking carry.

Anyone?

I've got a titleist staff bag that my uncle got me for Christmas a few years back before he passed on and I've got a few stand bags. One is a Nike bag, one is a Callaway (that's about to see the garbage can), one has my club logo on it and the new one coming in is a PGA TOUR Partners bag (Aunt got me the lifetime membership).

I prefer to walk even though I'm out of shape (working on it) but don't want to kill myself carrying the big bag...if it's doable I'll do it though.

I use a "Tour bag" because of the very changeable weather in the UK,and the fact that 90% of the rounds i play in are Tournament rounds - and i like to have everything to hand, have no excuses, and nothing to be in need of.

Also plenty of space means you dont get the grips jamming-up etc...which always happens on a par 3 after you bogey the last, spewing clubs all over the tee-box :)

If you see what i carry in addition to my clubs, you'll see why i got the biggest bag i could find:

Waterproof suit.

Sleeveless windproof top.

Bag rain cover.

Various hats.

Sunglasses.

At least dozen balls.

2 or 3 gloves.

Plasters.

Few spare studs and a spike key.

Driver weights.

Putters weights.

Lip-solve.

Loads of various tees.

Rule book.

Marker pen.

Ball-markers.

Pitch mark tool.

Stopwatch.

Nutrition bars.

Liquids.

Head-ache tablets.

Sun-cream.

etc etc

Man I just love the look of that staff bag!! I really should get one and throw all my TM clubs into it...even if its only for display at home :)

Can see why you need a staff bag lol! I doubt any stand bag could hold all that stuff

I use an older Mizuno gatorback (I think that is what it is called) because it is an 8.5" opening. I love the pockets and being able to carry extra stuff like rain suit, etc. I only use this bag when I ride. I find stand bags too much trouble when riding a cart.

I used to have the 10.5" TaylorMade R5 staff bag and it was awesome. If you want it, get it. No harm.

Well, I decided I might as well pick up the r7 staff bag, because at the price I paid for it, I might as well. If I ever want to get rid of it I'll likely break even anyway :)

Like I mentioned, I've been toying with switching over to TM for a while now, and this help convinced me to do so. I'm gonna get rid of my s59's and pick up a set of r7 irons for this season.

Same equipment I use/promote

Yeah I kinda think the bag brand should be the same as the clubs. I think you might as well make things match but not a necessity.

I am getting a staff bag because I need more room, and I have no problem carring my bag(except for me knee, but that is once in a while) I don't think a stand bag would hold all my stuff with ease and I might get a stand bag just for the quick rounds

Rich

Jeebus...you'd actually carry a full staff bag for 18? I'll definitely keep my Ogio for rounds I know I'll be carrying.
