The tee marks on that 3Deep really show how consistent his swing path is at contact & through the ball. I'm curious why he has only gone to the MD2 w/ his L wedge? I noticed that at the Open as well- he had the JAWS 52 & 56 in the bag but MD2 L wedge... Thoughts?

And could I ask someone to please explain the benefit of the "U" grind? (I assume that is what he has on the 60)....

Thanks!

I'll jump in if I may--the 60 is the MD2 prototype he's had in most of the year. So he's just kept that one in the bag.

The 52 and 56 aren't MD2s because he likes the fact that they don't spin as much, which is key for those lofts because he's generally taking more full swing shots with those and it's easier to control the spin.

And when I see the sock headcover with the other brand's hybrid under there, I am reminded just how much we need to change that headcover. I'm not a fan of the sock!

Greg - awesome pictures as always and I really like the individual WITB that you guys are now doing.

quick question, most of us know that Phil is rocking a non-Callaway hybrid. when taking the WITB pictures, did Phil ask that you do not take pictures of said club? Just curious thats all

Harry, thanks for the explanation! Makes sense to get a little less spin on the longer wedges.
Do you happen to know if he plays those at stated lofts? I vaguely recall seeing something on one of your youtube videos that his wedges are gapped 45°, 50°, 55°, 60° and 64° or something along those lines. Also any info on the grinds of the other wedges?

Might have been bones was told not to take the cover off. Doesn't really matter, everybody knows what a Anser hybrid looks like. The wedges and their grinds was what was interesting as well as the consistent marks on the 3 deep. The anser hybrid (and some G25s) seem to be in a lot of bags of leaders lately. Obviously not the most used hybrid by numbers but in a number of golfers that are finishing up the leader board lately.

Why would he put a driver in the bag? He almost won the U.S. Open, won the Scottish Open, and won The Open Championship without a driver or Phrankenwood. He should stick with what is working and stop changing clubs. The Phrankenwood was a short lived experiment; it worked great for 1-2 tournaments, but then the honeymoon ended. The 3Deep is lasting much longer than any other club he has hit off the tee in a LONG time.

What are the actual lofts on his wedges? Actually if you know or can find out and would like to share could you tell us the actual lofts on his entire set? 4IRON through PW in the X-Forged... any tweaks? Are the 52-56-60-64 tweaked at all?

Thanks for any info you can share.

Lol....I wasn't asking because I wanted to know what the club looks like, I wanted to know if Phil or Bones was trying to protect his sponsor by now allowing a picture of a non-callaway club. It would be cool of him if he was trying to protect his sponsors.

I asked Bones if I could shoot the bag while he was waiting for Phil. He pulled the "sox covered hybrid" out and I told him that I didn't need to have the cover off cuz we already had a full thread going on the Ping hybrid with photos from the Greenbrier. He chuckled and put it back in the bag. There was a driver in the bag at the time and I told him if he could set it up like Phil used for the Open win.

Bones pulled the driver out, took the cover of the Deep 3, left the hybrid in the bag (with the cover on it). Said the putter was the same one that Phil had been using.

I was more interested in getting close ups on the wedges.

I didn't notice what Phil was driving with, but on the 9th hole, I was standing at the 300yd mark, Rose went about 20yds past me nd Watson the left of the fairway, and Phil was about 10yds closer to the hole, dead center of fairway. Don't seem like not having a driver is hurting him too much!

I was close to Phil driving on the 2nd and 4th hole today, definitely 3 deep in play, too small for frankenwood....fubuki shaft. Really a good guy too, interacted with the crowd despite not hitting it great on both holes.

So he didn't have it in his bag at all? He definitely had it in there Thursday.

Not yesterday, just had the 3 deep and another (shorter) headcover, which I'm assuming is the 17* anser hybrid. Doesn't look like he has any trouble keeping up distance wise with the other players with the exception of guys like Dustin/Bubba, who just pounded the ball.
