NE Ohio Players

So I picked up my son for my birthday today (PM for my PayPal) we went in golf galaxy in Mayfield to just look Around talk to my buddy Jose if he was working. Well he was there and he told us that the store is closing its doors in mid January. Can't remember the exact date but I think he said the 17th. Not sure if that's meaningful news to anyone, just thought I'd share the info.

Will definitely do that but I would assume most of the inventory will be going to fairlawn and N. Olmsted stores.

Anyone crazy enough to get out and play lately? I noticed when looking on golf now for tee times almost everything is pulled off of there or they're charging summer rates.

I haven't played since Boulder Creek second week of November, trying to finish my late semester push then after Thursday might get out, hopefully.

Reason I found the thread again is I wanted to ask...

What courses do you play in the winter months, do you guys care about condition at all, or just look for a course that drains well, or any course that is open. I have only golfed at Duck Creek and Northwood during the winter months, but Olde Dutch Mill and Cranberry hills are also open in my area.

I played the day after Thanksgiving(32 degrees) and this past Sunday(45 degrees). I actually enjoy playing this time of year, I just put my earbuds in and it's like I'm in my own little world, just me, my music and golf. Another plus is that I can play in around 2 hrs. I don't really care about the condition of the course, just nice to get out and swing. I never look at how I'm putting because the greens are to slow. I had a streak of 34 months straight of at least a round of golf without leaving Ohio, it all came to an end last year in February when there was snow on the ground every day. I hope this winter isn't as bad as last winter. I'm in Central Ohio so I can't give you suggestions on any course which is good or not for winter golf.

Today is the first day this week that I haven't played. Chippewa on Sunday, Turkeyfoot on Monday, and Good Park ($10 for all you could walk) yesterday. As long as they'll let me out, I'll play.

If I remember right I think when I was in Akron Barberton Brookside (not to be confused with Canton Brookside) is always open in winter as long as there isn't snow...

Oak knolls in Kent is open when there no snow. Sand based course, best draining course around. In fact you can always get a cart if you want it. Never "walking only" nor "cart path only". Looking at the 10 day it looks like Monday might be a winner. 46 and mostly sunny. We shall see.

nice dude! that might be my go to winter course now. course isn't really playable in the summer because full wedges will bounce 10 yds on the green, but it should be perfect for this time of year.

anyone gets on number 1 in two from the tips in this weather and I'll pay their entry into remax

Played Raintree two Sunday's ago and it was really dry even after the snow thanksgiving night. $20 for 18 and cart isn't a bad deal and this time a year it's a good wide open course.

I'm surprised that course was dry at this time of year, it might be one of the slowest drainage courses around. I haven't played there since it was called Cooks Creek. I love the layout but the course conditions were going down hill, has it improved since then? Still a great track to play though. They had a really good deal in the summer it was $35 with a cart after 2:00, do you know if they still have that since they sold?

The few times I've played there in the summer it has always been in good shape. I'm not sure about the deals or anything.

Wait is that raintree in akron or raintree in Columbus? Raintree in Akron is frequently wet and doesn't drain well from what I recall...

Got out and played three times in the past week and a half. Im down in Columbus too, last monday I got out to Cumberland Trail about 20 minutes east of downtown columbus and this past weekend played Darby Creek and Golf Club of Dublin. All courses were quite playable (other than the slow greens) but all were allowing carts to scramble and didn't have a single ball plug in any of the 54 holes I played. Way better than last year so far, let's hope it stays this way.

Pretty sure Raintree is open unless snow is covering the course. Not sure about good park haven't played there in a few years since they removed themselves from Golfnow. I've been itching to get out and play.

Not sure where everyone is located (guessing NE Ohio since thats the topic) but if anyone is interested in getting out and playing tomorrow in central Ohio, 12/21, message me. The New Era Courses (Golf Club of Dublin, Glenross, New Albany Links, Bent Tree) have $29 all you can play whenever you go out so I'm thinkoing of going out to one of those courses around 10:00 and trying to get 36 in.

Played Oak Knolls today in Kent and the course was dry as previous mentioned. Greens were still frozen at 1030 so it was like hitting onto a parking lot. But course was in good shape for being December.
