Scotty Cameron and the Japanese Rising Sun flag

There is a statement on the SC website with excuses for having used a Rising Sun flag for a limited edition bag. As I learned the Rising Sun flag is offensive for Korean and Chinese people.

imho this limited edition bag will reach stellar prices on eBay!

I hate to appear ignorant but screw it.... Since it was used by the Japanese as a military symbol.... How exactly is it offensive? Wouldn't that be similiar to saying the American Flag is offensive to German people because we defeated them twice in military conflict?

No, because Japan isn't that great of a country, very greedy. I'm Korean, so I sometimes get offended. They tried to invade China and failed, yet they still harassed and killed many women and children. And they occupied Korea, where they literally ENSLAVED them. And mistreatment of women was also common. They were cruel, which is why many Koreans consider Japanese people very cruel, bad people.

The big issue is Titleist (and Cameron) are now owned by Fila which is Korean yes. Big smack in their owners faces for using the offensive Japanese rising sun flag which is why when you access the Cameron website the message posted above is the first thing that comes up from Scotty, and Wally. According to what I've been told, it would be similar to making something with confederate flag and presenting to an African-American person.

Yes. Many people connect that symbol with slavery being okay, etc and it's pretty offensive to them. Others think it's a southern heritage thing and don't have an issue.

I'm korean/japanese and not really bothered by it. But for scotty to say the symbol 'closely resembles' the Rising sun Flag is kind of funny. I'm sure he had every intent of using the symbol, but just did not research the potential repercussions of doing so.

Scotty Cameron and Titleist make good products and shouldn't apologize for doing nothing wrong!! What does me living where I do have anything to do with anything? [/quote]For what it's worth I can't stand the way some people in the south think! Since I have lived in Monroe, LA I have come across more racist and just ignorant people. I grew up in Houston and went to school with a lot of different Americans and there was for sure a little racism there but it can be bad here in the smaller towns!

I guess sometimes I appear clueless because I don't find offense in anything other people, or " morons ", choose to say or do. My parents raised an emotionally strong person who doesn't allow anything other people say or choose to display bother him.

This is how my wife described it when I told her I didn't get it.... ( the whole Rising Sun thing )
