These are just more brilliant WITB photos.

I have on pet peeve about the photos of sole plates on all of the nearly-countless SLDR drivers on tour. You (rightly) try to depict where the slider-weight is located, and in a shot from a slightly lower angle, you (again, rightly) try to depict what the loft- and serial-numbers are.

That's all good.

But every time it seems that just out of sight is whether the driver's cavity-hatch (of CHIII infamy) at the toe-end of the slider-rail has been removed for hot-melting and replaced with a screw.

I'm really curious how many of the tour-use SLDR's are hot-melted at all. (Just about all of them?) And how Carlsbad and/or the TMaG tour van re-covers the hole after hot-melting is done. (Do they replace the hatch? Or install a screw?)

Thanks. And again, all of you WITB pictures are brilliant; the best in the history of the 'net.

I think that is my next putter! Love his set and I feel he is due to win a huge one soon....

I would say almost every head on Tour is hotmelted. The hole is plugged with a new cap that has a screw in the middle of it, it's not just a screw.

Such a good guy! I really want to see him win a couple times this year.

Im not a big TM fan, but the new TP irons are pretty good looking. How do they get the speed pocket in the 3-7 if they are forged??

[/quote]come on bud ! Are you claiming cobra's bio cell is a better driver than the SLDR ? Honestly the SLDR is a great driver feel and distance . The driver is the least forgiving club in the bag period . Cobra needs to catch up with the pack colors don't equal technology . If cobra spent less time painting and more time and money on Research and development maybe they could gain some ground. As it stands cobra is still playing that same low and deep cg song with new paint schemes trying to attract teens .

Very interesting. And makes sense.

I have heard that the SLDR is the most returned club in the retail world right now. Of course maybe it's the best selling also, but still ...

great comment(s).

i owned one of the 5 or so tour versions of the r1 - fantastic driver as it fit the launch conditions i was desiring. however the forgiveness was not there... this is the only reason i have not purchased a SLDR. it is the best TRACKMAN number driver i have hit for launch conditions and spin, but i want something that can pick me up when i have an off driving day.

IMO the holy grail of driver technology is finding a way to move the CG low and forward - while maintaining/producing a high MOI.

all this being said - day has a great bag of sticks!

What a great comment; and kudos to all of the authors of all of the great comments above. It is a pity that this fascinating, literate discussion is buried in the "Jason Day WITB" thread, but whatever. A "Tour SLDR secrets" thread might be in order, eh?

So now; where do I get my 4g SLDR slider-weight? lol.

I know it was not exactly what was intended, but I cannot imagine that all of the non-TMaG bag-sponsor players (the Luke Donalds, the Davis Loves, the Fred Coupleses, etc., etc.) who are wealthy beyond our comprehension, who are among the most discerning ballstrikers in the world, and who are under no obligation to use the TM SLDR, are anything but thrilled with the new driver. If retail SLDRs are being returned to stores at unprecedented rates (good for me, looking for a cheap used one) in the retail market, it sure doesn't seem like tour SLDRs are being rejected. EVERYBODY on tour is using one. (That is to say, a huge portion of tour players who aren't obligated to play something else...) So are the tour drivers all hot-melted to an extreme, with extremely low-weight sliders? I read Golf WRX obsessively precisely to learn things like that.

So a company that does $1.5 billion in golf sales, is going to put out a product that performs poorly? If that were the case, you don't think people would catch on? Your first arguments may have had some validity with MOI statements (I can't confirm nor deny). However, then you turn it into a Tour vs. Retail debate….other companies do the same thing, FYI. I don't know why everyone gets so bent out of shape when the biggest company in golf makes several versions for pros. If you have more hard evidence on your original claim, I'd like to hear that.

because the public gets a lesser product that does not preform as well as what touring pros are using. I have been saying this for several yrs now. All the companies do it, its just seems TM does it more

I don't believe the statement was that TM is building "different" versions of the SLDR driver for the pros.
What has been done as was stated is that the SLDR driver (same version as the public can buy) was modified (for some pros but not necessarily all pros) by changing the slider weight and adding hot melt. The public can do that was well IF they believe it would be of value to their driver.
I have modified my SLDR slider weight and that does not mean it is a better driver than the rack driver; it just suites me better.

I've heard lots of TM guys are upset with the new irons. Given the MCs aren't forged past the 7 iron. They either have to play the blades or be SOL. Lots of older MC users are struggling to find sets of the old version so they don't have to change

well when such modifications have to be done to make it playable, i think there is a problem. When you have to change a 20 gram weight into a 4 or 8 and add 10 plus grams of hotmelt in the back of the head to increase moi it then become a different club. To all the people that think they get the same club as players - TM loves you because you are the ones buy each release.

Would love to see your discoveries that this "has" to be done to make it playable. Decreasing MOI actually makes the driver easier to shape, which Tour players like, which is why you see smaller heads like the R1 V2. Usually when you see multiple versions, it's because a prominent staffer was needing something specific and couldn't achieve what THEY needed for a driver. I like that 2 people behind computers want to appear to know more than a company that does billions in sales. Flame on.

If that information is true, then it shows that TM isnt putting the best product in the consumers hands. What happened to TM big push to say they were not going to have Txxxxx serial heads anymore? It lasted a week then pops up the T serial sldr, then the toe screw. My point is that consumers dont get the same heads as tour guys. It happens with all oem's but just more so with TM. TM tries to cover up that they do this. Give props to titleist when the dot head was found. They came right out and said it was a special head for duff. TM would never step up and do that.
