Graphite Design Tour AD Utility/Driving iron shaft vs. Graphite Design AD-DI Hybrid shaft

So I am planning on putting one of these in my driving iron as a winter experiment and wanted some feedback from people who have had experience with them. There is a pretty big difference in price ($85 vs. $220) so I am wondering what I'd be gaining in forking over the extra money for the hybrid shaft? Any other information you might have on the two shafts would be great as well. Thanks

Unless you want the 105 go with the driving iron shaft. I just built a 2 iron with a 95x and it's fantastic. I pulled a 105x out of it and results were no different for me. Both super super smooth and easy to swing.

If we're talking the same shafts, the Tour AD Utility/Driving Iron is 0.355 and the Tour AD DI Hybrid is 0.370. Profiles are different, most likely cause one is designed to be used with (driving) iron heads and the other, obviously, with hybrids. Apart from the Iron possibly producing a bit more spin, the different feel can/will be noticeable. Expect the Hybrid to feel softer in transition compared to the Iron, but that also depends on the length you play them.

The price of the shaft isn't any kind of indicator of what you might get out of it. The two may certainly have slightly different bend profiles and one may very well be a little better fit than the other - but the price isn't what's going to tell us (or you) which one would be better for you.

Call me a cynic but I largely suspect they charge more for the hybrid shaft because they can. This is not specific to GD, most of the major shaft manufacturers have higher MSRP's for hybrid shafts than very similar 'iron' shafts simply because buyers have to buy more iron shafts to reshaft a set while hybrid shafts are bought one or two at a time.

I have played the 105x hybrid shaft in my 716 T-mb 2 iron and now have the 95x driving iron shaft. As JDogg said, there is no noticeable difference between the two. I absolutely love the shaft in this head. Also if you conserned adout it being 95g vs the 105g don't be. I have to but trim at least 4" off the hybrid shaft where I butt trimmed less than a inch from the driving iron shaft. So that makes up for most of the weight difference.

Am I reading the reviews right that the DI version plays soft to flex?

Am interested in this as well. I am looking at a 95-S vs a 95-X in the driving iron. Play PXI 6.0 in the irons, and stiff in my woods with a 113 driver speed. I am thinking stiff will be more consistent with what I have in my other clubs?

I have the AD DI 105x in both my hybrid and my Utility Prototype, the hybrid does fly a bit higher with about the same distance (about 10 yards shorter) than the Utility, with the UT I can hit the "stinger" shot and it is great for short Par4s...

Anyone else have any experience with the 95x?

It’s very tip trim sensitive. Tip too much and she’s a low bullet machine. I’ve had these two shafts at least 10 times in many different driving irons and hybrids. Always a more piercing flight and good dispersion compared to other hybrid shafts.

I am looking to potientially install one of the 95x Driving Iron into my UDI 18*. Has anyone had experience with this? (this specific degree and/or head) I have read that the launch is higher than ideal. Obviously this could have been the individual.

Tipping is just key with this shaft or the hybrid version. I have had 5-7 of these. Untipped I am not a fan of it at all, but once I got the tipping figured out, it is the best out there for me, in either hybrid or driving iron. You just need to get the tipping right.

I am familiar with their website.... I don’t know the reasoning of them posting that, but I can tell you it is literally night and day in feel, ball flight, spin, dispersion...

That's because the hybrid shaft has a .370 parallel tip and is designed to be tip trimmed. The driving iron shaft has a .355 tapered tip and is not designed to be tip trimmed. There are a 3, 4, and 5 'iron' version so you can hard step if you want.

Then you already knew the reasoning on why they have the recommendations they do - or were you hoping for some additional clarification?
