Dress code for tour players

I know at the courses I play at require a shirt with a collar. Apparently it is not required of PGA pros.

Do the courses you play require a collar?

Once my brother had to but a shirt because his had Titleist on his and no advertising was allowed.

Yes, PGA Tour pros are required to wear collars. Yes, the blade collar is a collar.

Is ther not a Titleist stamp on every single Titleist club? How about a bag? Not names on bags? That seems a little pretentious. Or a lot pretentious.

Seems fitting for a tournament that gives out a Green Jacket.

That is a blade collar. It is technically a collar - it just doesn't fold over.

Very similar topic was discussed several years ago when the mock had it's short run. We may not like the look of one or the other (or both) but they are both considered collars.

I was playing a private course as a guest on a corporate membership in New Jersey (Fiddlers Elbow) back when the "mock turtleneck necks" were all the rage. I was wearing one when I walked in the pro shop to sign in. They looked at me and said "you need a collared shirt to play here". I told them I had a collar, they said I didn't. I said "they wear these shirts on the PGA tour, it has a collar". That was met with a "are you on the PGA tour? You need a collar, and that's not a collar".

I bought a shirt at the clubhouse. $65 it cost me.

I ordered a blade collar the other day. If they can wear them on tour so can I.

I have 3 of the blade collar shirt. Never had issue wearing them anywhere, member at private and play a lot of other private clubs too. It's an awesome shirt and in super hot conditions no collar is just better.

I keep a backup polo style shirt in the car anyways. Problem solved.

Some thing happened to my buddy playing a public course about eight or nine years ago. They made him wear a windbreaker the whole day on an 85 degree day. I walked in there and said we played Capilano (best private course in BC) a few weeks ago in the same shirt but he can't wear it here? I just laughed and walked out. I've never gone back.

it was only recently that my course insisted one wear a shirt at all. (Well, women and girls were expected to wear shirts, but it was an unwritten rule).

The "collared" shirt rule is to keep men and boys from wearing ratty, wrinkled, cotton t-shirts on the course. The golf blade collar shirts are fine, and a far cry from a t-shirt.

I have only been playing at my munie for about 20 years, but I have a friend who grew up playing there. He's 65. He said for years there was a rule that men were supposed to keep their shirts on while playing 1, 9,10 and 18. Otherwise, no problem with no shirt.

If it's good enough for the most prestigious golf club in America, then it is good enough for me.

Unfortunately as "private property" most clubs are free to enforce and interpret as they please

Don't get me wrong, I'm with you. I think there shouldn't be a problem at all, but if a club sticks to its guns, you're probably going to be SOL.

In places like those, I vote with my feet and my wallet.

I overheard a guy talking about these collars on the weekend whilst the Masters was on. He said Augusta should penalise those wearing them.

To me it seems those that are calling for a dress code or penalties are just using that to voice their disapproval or distaste at the collars.

Personally, I'm indifferent. I wouldn't wear them myself, but my overall dress sense doesn't really fit that style. I wouldn't get my knickers in a knot though if someone showed up wearing one though.

I remember vacationing at Myrtle beach with my cousin and best friend about 18 years ago. It's mid round and I get out of my cart to hit my shot. I look across the fairway at my cousin who is next to play to see him standing over the ball wearing a wife beater (tank top for those that don't know the term). Talk about embarrassing. I mean that's as Hillbilly as it gets. Needless to say, I insisted he put his polo back on. I was the only serious golfer in the group b the way. I'm by no means a snob. I'm fine with mocks, blades collars,etc.. No jeans and no wife beaters though.

Is it weird that I consider a mock turtle neck a shirt with a collar but I don't feel that the Nike shirts have one?

Blade collar? It's a henley t-shirt. Looks pretty rubbish. At least the mock turtle still had a raised collar.

On a hot day, I like a nice stiff collar so I can pop it like a guido* and shade my neck.

*I'm not american, but I think this means those orange folks who wear 3 polo's at a time with the collars up. Apologies if I am incorrect.
