We will be driving from Auburn, AL. Looking to get a round in before we fly out later that afternoon.

12 guys looking to play a round a higher end/interesting course, all of us are from Jersey.

Thanks for your help!

As far as around the airport, there's not a whole lot unless it's East Lake or a 9 hole muni. Coming from Auburn, I'd say the best courses would be Grand National or the Auburn University Club. If you want something in GA though, I'd look somewhere off I-85 around Peachtree City or Fayetteville. Lots of courses around there, but most of them are ClubCorp courses, which I'm still confused about how they work. Not sure if they're open to public or not. If I think of anything around the airport I'll post again, but I think you'll have more options the closer you are to Auburn.

Thanks for the response-Doesn't need to be right around the airport could be a guess around an 1hr away. We are playing Grand National Already. Ill check out Auburn University Club, we were even thinking about maybe driving to UGA course.

Got it. I will say that the the UGA course is really fun. Old style course with lots of slopes. I know the course is recommended a lot to people, and some from up north think that it's very hilly after playing it. Not that it's Augusta, but it's that type of hole layout for most of them, not many flat holes. Could also check out Chateau Elan, Woodmont, Bridgemill, or the Georgia Club. There's lots of courses heading up I-75 and I-575, getting close to an hour away, but those are my few favorites off the top of my head. If you have any questions or want a thought/review of another course let me know.

Check out The Frog near Villa Rica. Haven't played it yet myself, but local Atlantans are always raving about it.

+1 on this too. I've heard the conditions haven't been the best the past couple months there, but I do like this course. Sits away from everything else around it and has a nice layout. I played it my first time early last year and it's a course I'll have to play again.

I wouldn’t recommend driving from Alabama to UGA and still making a flight from atl all in the same day. Frog is a good option location wise

Glove: ML
Tees: 2 3/4
Towel: white
Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
Iron headcovers: wait, what?

The feedback system is annoying

Saw the frog and saw that it was only $62 bucks on the weekend. Is that the norm down there up

Here in NJ you get a pretty mediocre course for $62 bucks. That’s what scared me off.

Also was looking into summer grove and wolf creek

Eh. I wouldn't call it a super high end course. It's a typical semi-private club, but it's not in a high populated area either. It's one of the better rated courses in the state, but no East Lake or TPC Sawgrass. I can't think of many top notch courses that are open to the public except maybe Chateau Elan. Druid Hills, Peachtree GC, Piedmont Driving Club, Berkley Hills, Cartersville CC, and all those like it are private. I may be wrong, but I can't think of a GREAT public course around ATL.

Wolf Creek is a solid option. Also - both courses at Grand National are nice.

Plenty of great courses, just not on his route.

Callaway or frog for a good time.

Gotta drive a bit otherwise.

Haven’t played any of those courses in years, but out of those 3, the frog had the best layout by far. Wolf creek was still somewhat new when I played it, but all I remembered were a ton of blind shots everywhere, tee and approach shots. Summer grove was a fun course and very reasonable for what you get and with the novelty of zoysia fairways, but still would play the frog over it every time if given the choice. This is all based equal conditioning.

Also, was gonna recommend maybe whitewater in Fayetteville but did it go private?

called whitewater it is private but they would let us on, being that it is a sunday he said.

playing all 3 at Grand national driving up from there.

Have played all those and would absolutely recommend The Frog out of all those suggested and by the end of March would think the conditions would be good. It has bent grass greens so I would suggest checking about aeration during that time which could sway your decision.

It can be argued, but in reality there are not any "interesting" or higher end public golf courses within 45 minutes of the Atlanta airport.

Public golf in and around Atlanta is pretty dismal.

You can use BoxGroove to get on Moore's Mill in Auburn.

didnt see Moores mill on boxgroove but did say I could book through my pro.

Try this link

https://www.boxgroove.com/clubs/moore-s-mill-club/request

says $65 for this week

If not, then its probably worth booking through the pro.

It's Jason Dufner's home course so that makes it a bit cooler I guess.

It's a little off the beaten path, but it may be worth it to check out the Fields Club in LaGrange.

I love The Fields but the conditions out there can be less than impressive to a golfer looking for something shiny.

I find it hard to recommend unless I know the type of golfer I'm talking to.

I think because the conditions might be a bit more brown than expected is exactly why courses like the Fields should be recommended.

Thanks for your help!

Call Highland CC in Lagrange Ga and see if they’ll let you out. Old Donald Ross design. worth a shot.

Other than that, logistaically, Newnan or Pearchtree city might let you swing it somewhere. Mostly low level private tracks that are on par with boring public venues.

Wolf creek golf course by the Airport is a fun track to play. Usually in really good shape although I haven’t been there in 4-5 years.

Other than that, you’ll have to drive to the north side of town to get something good/unique. Might not be worth the extra hour + drive time.

Thanks think we are going to book Moores Mill but have to wait a week or so. Saw Highland on Boxgroove how does that compare to MM?

The Frog is a Fazio design that was built just at the end of the boom. They had really big plans that were rightsized, but not before the first course was built. They eventually found their level at $62. Too far from Atlanta and had to attract more local golfers. Course maintenance fits the budget they have now. Bent greens last I saw. Should be good during the winter. Layout is really good, similar to the other Fazio designs in the area, White Columns and Eagles Landing.

If you have someone who is a Club Corp member there are a huge number of courses in the area. You can look at the CC web site to see the options.

Callaway Gardens has the name. I was disappointed the time I trekked out there.
