Can you still play good golf with a bit of EE?

Just to preface, I'm currently a 5.5 index and have pretty much stayed at this level for years now. Not getting much better, but will occasionally have a freak round and shoot close to par.

I recently had a friend critique my swing and he basically said I don't have enough pelvic extension on the BS and I EE on the DS. I've been going crazy watching youtube videos and trying various drills to fix the EE issue and nothing is really helping. Really considering just staying with what I have as I don't plan on going pro anytime soon.

EE is result. Have to fix the cause. Elite level golf is played with some EE - Nicklaus, Mickelson, senden, gay, Casey to name a few - and long drive too , joe miller. Most likely if you didn’t EE, you’d hit the ball poorly.

Fixing cause can add distance, accuracy, . . .

My hunch is you can play golf with any manner of swings. The farther from the basics, the harder it is to be consistent. But people with extraordinary feel of their bodies especially hands probably can swing looking like a drunk monkey.

It's really not the end of the world. If you want, you can keep your back foot down through impact, "rolling" onto the instep. That will help. You may also have some tightness in your glutes, hip flexors, and/or quads. Stretching will help with this.

Thanks. I've been working on the trail foot a lot, but not much luck. Actually the pic you see above is a lot better than it used to be. Flexibility has been an issue as of late given I have gained a lot of weight, but that's for another topic. lol

Unless you have a glaring weakness in another area of the game the answer is obviously yes since you have been playing for a while. It’s not a end all be all for a good golf swing but there is a reason most scratch ball strikers have minimal EE... it’s a effect of things that normally aren’t desirable and cause inconsistencies.

 

 

From my experience working on EE doesn’t really cause you to play worse while trying to fix it. It just seems to take forever to make a lasting change and it’s something that likes to come back once it’s out of your mind.

Your EE is surely minimal, been working with @glk & @copperjeff for a while now I had really REALLY REALLY bad EE, Its now just Really bad, trying to get to bad and then, "manageable" As mentioned above EE is not "bad per se" Its EXACTLY the words they are "EARLY" Extension as Monte has stated in multiple of his videos.

 

It just means we extend way to early, the host of other issue, I have found that trying to fix the EARLY extension as in actually applying fixes to the "extension" at the ball, rather than address, why I extended "EARLY" was the wrong approach. I need to "delay" extending, OR do other things FASTER to extend later. What was it? I lacked rotation of the body, once I addressed my body rotation (that means stop the stall and over active use of the arms) Leaving the arms dead and rotating the trunk/core more and faster, the Extension came WAY later in the swing when it was supposed to happen. Again its not over night, going from really really bad to just really bad...LOL
