Atmos 7s or 6x driver shaft?

TokyoM

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am interested in purchasing a Cobra F9 tour length driver. However, I cannot decide between the Atmos tour spec blue 7s or 6x and would greatly appreciate any opinions or advice.

I don't have a lot of information to provide about myself. However, the last time I was on a TrackMan, my 45" driver swing speed averaged 105-110. The last time I did a proper fitting was for a fairway wood. At the time, I was recommended a 15 degree M3 3 wood, -2 degrees sleeve setting, with an Atmos tour spec blue 7x. This is the main reason I am interested in purchasing the Cobra driver, as the Atmos shafts are a stock option.

I know that the above is not much information to go off of, but if anyone has any recommendations or advice for things to think about when deciding between the 7s and 6x, I would greatly appreciate it. If it matters, my preference would be to choose the shaft that would tend to help me tighten my dispersion.

Thanks again in advance!

i use the Black at 7S and my swing speed when i am not in quarantine mode is 110+, the black is a pretty stout low launch shaft ....so i can't compare to the blue

But <110 i am guessing you'll be fine with a 7S, it probably won't play too different than the 6X except for the weight

like mentioned above, the 6x blue and 7s blue will be very similar other than weight. The 7s should played slightly stiffer overall... Ive been fit previously into the TS Black 6x with SS between 111 - 114.

I play Tour Length also. Id recommend going with the 6x. Since the head will be heavier overall, I dont think you'll need/or want extra mass from the shaft

I have the f9 standard length with Atmos black 6s and my swing speed is 105-110. My main reason for choosing the 6s vs. 6x is I feel more comfortable mentally knowing I don't have to go "after it" and thats a huge plus also I play alot of cold weather golf and sometimes my swing speed is slower.

It was a tough decision I think with my swing speed I could handle either shaft equally well.

Also want to add its a very good feeling shaft, not boardy at all.

Thank you all for your comments, they are very helpful!

Based on what I'm hearing, it sounds like the shafts I am considering should be appropriate for my swing speed. That is reassuring to hear, given I cannot test anything while still in quarantine mode.

nikeblades00 - your consideration of the mental aspect is interesting and certainly makes sense.

I have the 7x in my driver and 8TX in my 3 wood and I would 200% recommend getting the S unless you can really get after the ball. I'm a big guy and go at the ball hard and shaft still has plenty to go. It's a stout shaft.

I think weight is more important than flex, but I like to go with the shaft that’s stiffer, especially in driver. You’ll notice all the guys on tour who swing at your speed use an X. It’s not a coincidence.

I have a swing speed of 98/99 mph the day i was fitted into this. But my transition is a little more aggressive for some reason. (Shorter backswing)

i was fitted in a atmos black TS 6x. And the accuracy of my drives is now insanely mind blowing. 11/14 fairways first time out. DEAD STRAIGHT DRIVES POINT AND SHOOT

I didn’t think I could hit a “x flex, low spin, low launch” shaft. Any of those 3 and never all 3. Wrong wrong wrong. Would never know without a fitting session. (Insert usual “get fit suggestion here” )

my fitter tried me in 6s, 6x then 7s. 6x won for me. And I had no idea until I looked at the shaft after (mentally I think this helped me swing freely)

not sure how this story will help lol. But hope you can get something from it.
