No more new clubs

I’ve decided, after buying more than two full sets over the past 18 months since I came back from a long absence from the game, that my bag is now complete for the near future.

 

I’m going to learn how to hit each club to its best with a view to keeping this bag of 16 clubs for a while. Clearly two have to miss out each time, that’s the 5-Iron plus one other typically. In the winter it’s the 64* probably as greens are very soft here in London for at least 6 months of the year. In the summer, however, it’s a very useful club to have. In the summer then I’ll almost certainly not play either the 3H, the 4H or the 4I depending on the course and whether I need a long Iron off the tee.

 

So, much as it may be disappointing not to be scouring the tinternet for bargains, I reckon the best thing to do is to keep improving my performance with my current sticks rather than swapping and changing any more, they’re all very capable clubs. I’ve shot a few rounds in the 70s in recent weeks so the aim is to try to consistently beat 80 over the coming months.

I have a new device that I attach to my finger. It emits an electrical shock up my arm whenever I go to a golf equipment fourm or website. It hurts like hell and is effective. It took me twenty minutes to type these four sentences. I'm thinking about patenting it as I would have no trouble selling it to wives for holiday stocking stuffers!

You just have to learn to set boundaries.....

 

I promise not to buy new irons for at least a year, unless I find some that are cool and shiny.

 

I promise not to buy a 5th putter just because I leave a birdie putt short. However a pulled or pushed putt does not mean I do not need a new putter.

 

I promise not to buy a new driver just because some manufacturer says "our longest driver yet!". However if it is their longest driver yet and straighter, then I probably owe it to myself to check into it.

Absolutely! I haven't changed irons in a year, which is astronomical for me. And in the last few months, my iron play has just gotten better than I ever remember. Distances are locked in, and can fire at will even with my 4 iron. I haven't been this confident over a ball in years. It's so reliable, it is bordering on boredom. Which is why I have a new set of Maltby PTMs with Recoils ready to be built this weekend! Tally HO!

This one got me thinking... and while thinking I spot the head of a Cobra F7 3w sitting on a nearby table. Can't remember the 3w this Cobra replaced.. not sure where the shaft is.... but I do remember saying "this thing is a beast... its gonna be in the bag forever"

Yeah I know. I hit my irons really well so they’re definitely staying. The wedges will be replaced, the 58* in particular and maybe the 52*, early next year I suspect, but that’ll be for groove reasons. Quite possible that I’d replace with the same clubs.
