Played a couple virtual rounds into a net today. Not as much fun as the sim, but better than nothing.

After reading all the positive comments here, I decided to buy the G80! I really like the device and I'm exploring its capacities. There are two questions I had for the users.

My first one is about the Truswing mode. I didn't manage to get the G80 radar to work when they are connected. I was hoping distances would be recorded in Connect with the Truswing metrics for analysis and stats. I think I'm gonna write down distances on a paper and add them later to the shot notes but that's a pity I cannot get the device to do it as it doesn't seem too complicated. Would someone know how to activate such a feature?

I also wanted to ask users if there is a way to manually save shot locations and club used in the device like CT10 would do to track stats and review rounds in the app? That doesn't seem technologically impossible knowing what the device is able to do but I didn't find how.

I will probably send those questions to the Garmin support but my experience has not been great so far for golf products. I reported wrong data (175° club path) and shot view (LH shots going backwards) generated from my Truswing device after I bought it. After two months, with little (and delayed) to no answers the first issue was finally corrected, I hope the second one will be fixed too some day. EDIT: 1st issue actually not solved and was misleading me in my training, 15° difference with my pro's trackman. I've always liked Garmin products but I have the feeling the agent product expertise and customer support quality overall is not as good as it used to be although price remains premium.

Thanks!

Happy New Year all .... made it back to Palm Springs in time for a party, here for 3.5 months, got my G80 when I was here last February & was one of the first (#25) to post some pic's & reviews. It's been a fun little toy that's helped my game, was out at the range the other day fired it up and started the Warm Up mode, needed some WD40 to get the rust off my swing, practice session went OK, G80 numbers were still close to what my Bushnell Lazer confirmed. Still lovin this gadget.

A few Pic's .... cheers

David

Had a good range session today, unfortunately forgot the camera, finally seeing some Tempo # in the 3.2, 3.4 area, was hitting the ball much better, little more lag in the swing, but the S/S & ball speed #'s were less, distance was about the same, not sure why the lower S/S all about 99-100 mph with driver.

Had a good practice session today, finally figured out something that worked to improve my tempo and make better ball contact on all my clubs.

A golf professional's average time for the backswing is 0.82 seconds, with an additional 0.27 seconds to make the down swing to impact. That's an ideal ratio of 3.1.

What worked for me was a smooth take away low & slow, a full shoulder turn, then power down with a good release & don't stop until your body is facing the target, this got me the results I was hoping for and the G80 confirmed it. Now I need to work on consistency and hopefully play better golf.

A few pics .... started with my wedge, then mid irons & long irons, 3 wood & driver.

Cheers

Working on my tempo has helped my ball striking, played Fantasy Springs, Eagle Falls, it was a Bty day, no wind 72F, had 2 bad holes, found the front 9 a bit more challenging than the back 9, shot 80, now need to work on my putting.

Hey everyone, first time poster here. This thread has been very informative and I am strongly considering purchasing this unit. One aspect I haven't seen discussed much is whether or not the launch monitor shows accurate club speed if you don't hit a ball? I've recently purchased the super speed training sticks and would love to be able to use this to track club head speed during those training protocols but they don't involve hitting a ball. Does anyone have any insight if it will give consistent readings if swinging without hitting a ball? I am okay if it's off by +/- a certain amount as long as it's consistent, as that would still allow for tracking any speed gains as a result of the speed training program.

Many thanks, Matt.

Weekly Leaderboard Score Tracking:

It's been 1 year since I purchased my G80, the gadget tracks my scores & establishes a handicap, on a weekly basis I get these notices by golf course played.

Escena is in Palm Springs, played 3 times that week, not all that consistent, this was the result.

The G80 has been saving grace for me during this lockout. I've been playing virtual rounds in my garage every day.

Not as good as a real sim, but I'm taking full swings and keeping sharp.

Hope this doesn't happen to you, when I lived in Edmonton, put 1 through the cheep net, ripped through the seam & smashed the small glass window in the overhead garage door, had to go out on street & fetch my ProV-1.

Ha ha Dave, good warning. No windows in the garage door, so I'm good there. I'll drape a tarp behind it just in case. ;-)

Does anyone know if Garmin intend to add club selection for the G80? I’ve just bought one and was really disappointed to see that there’s no way of collating the data from any shots hit because a club can’t be assigned. Seems like a huge oversight for a device in this price margin. I was hoping that I’d be able to save average data for each club so that I could see changes to data through swing changes and then have it used for suggested clubs on the course. It has great potential but this really lets the device down in my opinion.

Garmin TruSwing Swing Sensor is an optional function of the G80 you need to buy the sensor shown below, based on the review it still needs some work/improvements.To see the results in all their glory you need to download the Garmin Connect Mobile app to your iOS or Android device and then pair the TruSwing using Bluetooth.

I asked this question 10 months ago on the Garmin Approach G80 forum:

"After measuring a shot distance with the Approach G80, would it be possible to assign that measurement to a designated club? That option is available on the Approach G8, but not for the Approach G80."

To date, there has been no response from Garmin. It's annoying/puzzling as to why that simple option isn't available on such an advanced device (compared with the G8) like the G80.

As previously posted, had mine for over a year, it's just sitting there looking at me wanting to get back out on the course .... but that's not going to happen just yet, were still under lock down, the Gooberment say Golf is non-essential & all our courses in Alberta are still closed, wish I was back in Palm Springs, at least they opened up their courses.

For those buying a G80 gadget, I'm sure you'll enjoy it & it will help improve your game.

Cheers

David
