Wedge setup with stronger PWs (45 and lower)

Just got fitted into Apex combo set with 44 degree PW. 

As I’m curious, for those playing iron sets with stronger lofted PWs, how do you have your wedges set up? 48, 52, 56? 48, 54, 60?

IMO you should be fine with a 4-6 degree gap. A 50 gap, 54 or 56 sand, and 58 or 60 lob will all work fine. If you really want to do a 48 you can but I wouldnt do a 4 degree gap there.

The AW from that 'set' is 49 and you could always buy one of those seperately.

I too am playing Apex irons, but instead of the combo set I did 5-9 Apex 19 and PW/AW Apex pro so my lofts are .5/1 degree off from the combo set (weaker) and I dont really notice any difference at all. I personally am playing a 56 and 60 wedge set after the Apex Pro GW/AW for what its worth - so I have a 6 degree gap between my 50 degree AW and 56 SW.

In my prior irons and wedges, I had 46 set PW and specialty 50-54-58. I found most days I used either the 46 or the 50, but not both.

So, I ended up getting a 48, 54 and 60 when I got new wedges. Three wedges is easier to manage than four! (For longer short help, the 3/4 swing 9i has become an honorary wedge.)

That said, I dumped the MD-PM 60 for an MD4 58*/8 C-grind this winter. The high toe MD-PM was great for some shots but not for others. The MD4 offers me better distance control, and I can hit a 3/4 shot with it more reliably than with the MD-PM.

I have seen a golfer with 45* set PW dip into Edel and finish up with 50-55-60 in Trapper sole grind. He let me hit the 50 and 55 during a golf outing. Really smooth feel off zoysia turf.

After selecting PW, many golfers next select a way to escape the sand. Most use a 54* or 56* SW, while a few will use a high-bounce LW (58* or more). If you went with 54* SW, you might want to insert a 50* GW. If you want to keep degrees of loft consistent, you might select 44-49-54-58. (Apex GW is 49* if you're interested). Overall, however, is keeping the yardage gaps as consistent as possible.

For LW, some golfers prefer the 60* and others the 58*. Tidbit from PGA tour: half the pros have 58* as highest lofted wedge. Or, a few non-lobbies might go with 44-50-56.

It depends on what you need them to do. A 52* "sandwedge" is basically useless as most GW lofts don't have the grind versatility that the 54* and higher wedges have. I would probably go set GW at 48*, then go 54*, 60*. Spreads you out enough and allows you to fine tune your grinds to hit specific shots and distances you have the most issue with.

I personally run 45*, 50*, 54* & 60*. If I were you I would definitely look at a 48* GW rather than a 50* GW as I would assume the gap between a stock 44* Apex PW and a 50* wedge would be quite large when you factor in the speed off the face and spin numbers of an Apex PW compared to that of a specialist wedge company.

What club is the PW? Lofts are a factor but so are lengths. I have a 45-50-54-58 setup and have no interest in changing
