Wilson Forged D7 irons

Hit em for a good amount of time a few days ago, comparing to the C300 Forged, these definitely feel harder off the face, I think Wilson was aiming for a solid feel at impact but all I got out of it was a hard feel, aside from that, the numbers were good. Not as soft as the C300 Forged but still decent.

 

Head shapes are nice, love W/S’s profiles of their irons, I think they always have it spot on throughout the set.

 

Performance was pretty good, hard to test forgiveness when you’re middling shots but from what I can tell, they were about in line with the C300 Forged forgiveness wise. Topline was slightly thicker on the D7 Forged but still not intrusive at all, offset is perfect, barely noticeable.

 

The stock $ Taper Lite shaft felt great in the hands, very stable for a lightweight shaft and one I will definitely consider from now on, I usually like a heavier shaft (currently playing Standard $ Taper 120’s and S300’s even though my fitter always tries to put me in X100’s.

 

Looks are outstanding and turf interaction was excellent, loving the slightly rounded leading edges. Spin was low at around 5300-5500 rpm’s with the 7 iron but great decent angles and peak heights.

 

Overall I would give it a good 7.5/10, if the feel wasn’t so hard I would rate it much higher but I think they went a little backwards feel wise in this release, the C300 Forged felt almost too soft, I was hoping they would reach a middle ground with this one but unfortunately, the feel didn’t impress me whatsoever. I’d still bag them but I don’t see myself moving from my MP20 MMC’s.

 

I think they did good with this release, the power holes are gimmicky but I do feel like they do a decent enough job to keep numbers up across the face. I think people will be happily surprised with this release, especially if they’ve never tried the C300 Forged or FG Tour range.

These are the first Wilson irons i have ever owned and i actually love them. Super easy to get airborne. Cant wait for the new Wilson wedges to drop.

Just saw these for the first time at Golftown (first set just arrived).

 

Surprisingly compact for their category. The top edge is thickish, but shaped in such a way it's not overly offensive. I didn't have one on hand, but they appeared about the same size (length and depth/height) as the V6's.

 

Although they have a relatively inexpensive price (~ $1200 Cdn), any sort of choice away from the stock shaft can get pricey quick ($25-$55/shaft).

Wilson is so unbelievably underrated, the PGA Show had me seriously considering the ultimate combo set with some Wilson Staff Blades in 8-PW, V6 Tours in 5-7, and D7 Forged in the 3 and 4 iron.

They’re made from 8620 steel so I wouldn’t expect them to be buttery smooth. Still nice looking. I really liked the C300 Forged.

They are so pretty. Haven't had a set since the Pi5 irons way back when and some good ole fat shafts before that.

I am interested in the D7 Forged as well. I have a short set of the V6 (8-G) that I picked up for not much — mint used — and those are excellent clubs. Very consistent. I absolutely hit the V6 short irons better than I do the short irons in the C300 Forged. The shape, size and especially the sole of the V6 is spot on for the scoring clubs. I can see why everyone raves about them and why pros like Streelman stick with them.

The C300 Forged is noticeably larger than the V6 and while I like the look of the C300 Forged, they definitely feel a little hard to me vs others. I’ve read that the D7 Forged head is the basic shape and size of the C300 Forged with modifications, so I assume it will be bigger than the V6, which is good for longer irons. Interested in the feel differences of C300 Forged vs D7 Forged. It was an area Wilson said they really worked on improving with the D7 F.

On the fence on a set of these... I found a brand new set of the C300 forged for about $400. Is the D7 that big an upgrade I should shell out another $500 and order direct from Wilson??

It's filled with urethane (equivalent of how Taylormade does their speed-slot).
