Wilson Forged D7 irons

Recommended Posts

Wilson is really starting to make some very nice stuff. The regular D7's felt amazing for a cast club. It will be interesting to see how these perform.

The sole is off putting to me. But the cavity is fantastic. Top lines and offset look great. I'd be interested in hitting them

I really like the looks of these. I have a C300 Forged as a 4 iron replacement in a set of raw FG Tour V6. It performs very well, but I wish it were a little smaller with less offset and less junk in the trunk visible at address. From these photos, it looks like I may have to try one of these to see if it performs as well as the C300 Forged, but also looks as good in person as it does in the photos.

I've really become a Wilson Staff fan recently, kind of by accident through a couple alcohol-fueled eBay purchases. Anyone who hasn't hit a Wilson iron lately is really doing themself a disservice. Of the sets I have right now (raw FG Tour V6, MP-20 MMC, Z785, MP-64, and satin Adams CB3s), the V6 feel and perform the best (for me). And, even with more traditional lofts, they keep up with any of the others in the distance category. I've also said before, though... if more people tried Wilson, I wouldn't be able to pick up their stuff so cheap so soon after it releases.

I made the comment that it looked like a C300 forged replacement on Instagram and a "know it all" jumped all over me, commenting twice and tagging me subsequently in every post to try and prove me wrong that it couldn't possibly since C meant Control and D meant Distance in Wilson lines. I've never seen something look and be designed like a C300 forged not be a C300 forged replacement.

It does look cool. However, I found the C300 to feel a bit dead, those Powerholes made everything feel muted IMO. If they can get the feel back into the heads, they will have a winner.

I would have one heck of a time trying to fit the bottom of the bag with the stock lofts. I presume the 48º GW (basically a PW in my mind) would fly further than equivalently lofted bladed GW? Maybe the gapping between it and my 51º Artisan GW "might" work.

Driver: Callaway Rogue ST TD S @ 8.1º w/ Fujikura Speeder TR 661s

FairwayTaylormade Stealth Plus @ 15º w/ Diamana TB 70s

Driving Iron: Titleist U500 3i @ 20º w/ XCaliber RT95s

Irons: Taylormade P760 4-PW w/ Xcaliber RT105s (Artisan HC 4-PW w/ Steelfiber 110s - waiting on build)

Wedges: Artisan Raw 51º, 56º, 61º w/ Modus 120s

Putter: Artisan 0318 Deep Milled

I am with you on that. I very much like the looks of these, and I’d have to hit them to see how they fly, but may very well like them more at 1 or 2 degrees weak, depending on spin, carry and angle of descent. Some of these newer irons, despite the strong lofts, will still hit the perfect flight window. And some don’t spin enough. But with these lofts you’ve got room to tweak.

They are very similar to the C300 except for stronger lofts and I wonder how they feel in comparison. I had a brief foray with the C300 and I liked them but didnt love them, but it was mostly a feel thing and I had them in a Modus 105 X flex and I just did not like the shaft flex. I wonder how I would have liked them in a shaft with a touch more torque.

Are the D7 Forged a substantial upgrade over the C300 Forged, which are now lower-priced?

The one that I have hit and loved is the V6, but I’d probably struggle with it beyond the 8-PW. A combo is tricky with the lofts.
