How far away is the course you belong to?

I'm jealous of all of you who live so close to where you play. In the NYC metro area clubs are very expensive. I don't play frequently enough to make it worth the $$ to play close to home. I travel 30 miles (40 minutes) to play my nice (and inexpensive) course on weekend mornings.

I guess I also should mention that I pay for unlimited range balls at a nice range about 20-25 minutes from my house. I'm there nearly as frequently as the two courses mentioned in my previous post.

30 minutes door to door from the house... 25 door to door from the office... it's dirt cheap and a great course though so there are closer options (15 minutes or so door to door) but the cost savings makes it a no briainer... plus 15 of the minutes are on a very fun to drive winding country road... love letting that V8 purr on the drive out there

My home course is ten minutes from my house. I play another almost as much that's about seven minutes farther down the road. There's a few nicer (and more expensive) options thirty minutes away, one north and two south.

I am exactly 32 steps from my garage to #2 tee box. If I am in my cart, it takes about 15 seconds (because I have to backup and go down my driveway).

The course isn't great, but the men's club is. There are two other courses I'd prefer to join, but just cost prohibitive for my situation.

I live on the course so only a few seconds. I think whether a course is too far away or not is all relative though. To me it depends on how much free time you have. Right now I work a lot and if I didn't live on the course or very close to it I would not get to play near as often (or certainly hit balls/practice). However, when I retire in a few years we'd like to downsize the house significantly and there really aren't any small houses on this private course. Once retired it just won't be near as big a deal to travel further to play/practice so we plan to maintain our membership at this course even if we move across town.
