Nike VRS Covert Forged Iron Love thread... Wowzie! Comparison Pics added...

Always been a, "I'll never play Nike irons guy" and I'll probably stick to it, but I hit these irons yesterday and they are really nice. I'm sure their blades are nice as well but I don't have the game so I never really gave them a look. Hit the Covert forged yesterday. They are great looking clubs and they feel pretty damn good for a GI club and the first Nike iron I could see myself bagging. If you fall into that AP1.5 category and could go either way but lean towards AP1, you should give these irons a serious look.

I got mine last week, 5 - PW with 2g wrap in white ( red are for girls :taunt: )( even my Cobra's are red) and Dynamic Gold XP R300 shafts.

They seems like stay forever in air when hit them, I played Srixon WR's with Nippon 950 GH before, and a little more weight in shafts really make a difference, and Im a slow swinger, swingspeed in average around 72.

Head and topline on Covert seems big and thick compare to my Srixon's but I cant argue on performance.

I didn't purchased the 4 iron, as I think the specs on 3 - 5 iron is to close.

2 Nike VR Pro DS wedges 45 and 60 with stock DG S400 complete ( good deal on sale, got those 2 less than half price )

For those of you torn between these and the 2014 pro combos, wait until you see the set that I have coming next week from a special place...

When I hit these at the PGA demo day I knew I needed to find a place somewhere in my bag...

So where's the update on this scott?!

Anyone who hit these and the Apex wanna chime in on comparing the two?
I have but with different shafts. KBS Tour V in Apex and DG Pro in Nike. Both very nice. Apex win in looks department for me- thinner sole and maybe a touch thinner top line. Both faces are hot and could not tell much if any difference in distance. Feel is about the same too although subjectively I think the Apex felt softer. Neither are the softest forgings on the market. Can't go wrong either way

I thought these looked better than Apex by a wide margin. Felt and performed better also, IMHO. I have the opportunity to get the Apex at a huge discount and instead paid full price for a set of covert forged 2.0. They arrive tomorrow.
I completely agree, I have hit the Apex many times with several different shafts and it always feels very clicky off the face. The Covert, while it doesn't have the "buttery" feel of a more classic forged club, was much better in the feel department.

Did any of you lucky guys who have gotten your sets go with the gap wedge? If so, how do you like it? I currently have a blade style (Cleveland CG12) gap wedge but I think I want to go with the GW (I believe they label it AW) from the set when I order.

I have the AW. I rotate it in and out of the bad depending upon the course. If I expect to take full shots I'll put the AW in the bag for added forgiveness, else I go with a blade like wedge that offers better shot making capabilities since I find the wide sole on the AW a bit limiting for the shots I like to play with a 51/52deg wedge.

Thanks, that's good info. I use my 54* sand wedge for the majority of green-side shots and use my gap wedge for mostly full or 3/4 shots, so I think getting the AW will work well for me.

Demoed these both on the range and on the course with PX 6.0, along side the Mizuno EZ Forged. I now have a set of the Mizuno EZ forged with the PX 6.0 SSx1. I really really wanted to like the Nikes better, just didn't end up that way. The Nikes feel great, look great, but my misses with the Mizunos were just better time and time again. Very close second though.

My experience was completely different. In my hands Apex are longer, feel softer and are easier to work than Nikes. To each there own

That's why they make different clubs :) I'm not a Nike homer as these are my first Nike clubs. Here's mine...

Great pics, thanks! That's the exact setup I'm looking at, only I'll probably go with the new forged wedges instead of the X3X since I'm coming from the old forged black. I got a couple extra yards out of the Nippon shafts when I've demoed, but the DG Pro had a tighter dispersion and felt better to me.

Is there any chance you could post an address pic of that A-wedge??

Lobber, the Apex were longer for me as well, but I'm already looking at a 1 club gain from the Nike's over my current set so I don't feel like I need to get greedy ;)
Agreed on the dispersion and feel. I was also longer with the Nippons, but dispersion was much better with the DG Pro's.

I'll grab a pic of the A-Wedge later.

Does anyone have the bounce numbers for these irons?
I got an answer from Nike and posted it a few pages back. I'd provide the link bit I'm on my phone and searching isn't the easiest. From what I recall the low irons where 3deg and the PW tops out at 6deg.

Has anyone compared the Coverts to the Bio Cell Plus? Looks aside (I really like the raw look of the Bio +) Im looking for dispersion, feel, etc...I have hit both at PSS but yet to hit both outside. Just wondering if anyone tried both...
I have hit both playing 3rounds with Bio + and only one round with Nike. Both are great although Nike gets more press's which is neither good or bad. IMO distance is long and about the same for both. Feel is also similar with Cobras being soft for a cast club and the Nike being a bit hard for a forging. Top line is thinner on Cobra as is sole. Trajectory is about the same for both as is forgiveness. Not enough time for me to say difinitively which I prefer. Both are good

I'll be the owner of a set of these in around 30 minutes. I've got to say I was so impressed when I hit these last month I almost bought them on the spot. I've come from playing VR blades > TP MB's > VR Pro Combo's and was looking for more forgiveness. Had a few other choices on the table but these were hands down the best of the bunch. To me they're exactly what I'm looking for- low offset, eye fitting looks, max forgiveness, good distance.

Cant wait...
