HOW DO YOU FIX SCRATCHS ON A FORGED IRON?

HI was hopeing someone would know how to fix some scratchs on the face of my forged iron?

Just picked up a set of Cobra amp Forged. And on the wedge face there is a few bad scratchs.

Its out on the toe, the part that is Chrome polished.

Any Advice would be great.

I would suggest you forget about it if it isn't too bad. I let these things irritate me far too often and I finally had to let it go. Every round you play no matter how diligent you are with keeping them clean, over the course of time and use, they will get some dings and scratches. Unless you bought them to look at, it is unavoidable. I sold a very nice set of blades because I hit a shot with a 5 iron that left a small ding in the face that I couldn't look past and I am kicking myself still.

1. Tape groove area.
2. A little sand paper and WD40. Move in same direction at all times and do the whole head.
3. Repeat irons 3-9.

Voila, satin chrome irons that look awesome!(AND you'll be the only one who owns a set!)

Just dont worry about it. Wipe the face after every shot and clean them good after each round and they will last a long time. If you get some stone/rock marks you can use some 0000 steel wool and some oil to remove light stuff or use a dremel with a polishing wheel and paste.

You don't. If you are that concerned about some scratches on the face, there is no repair that you will be satisfied with short of rechroming. Sell them or learn to live with it.

If you are a member of golfwrx, the answer is very simple, you just buy the next hot set of forged irons!!!!!!!!!!

It can be done. I've fixed gouges and scratches before. Even a really bad one. However you will always get them on forged irons. Cast irons are the alternative.

To fix properly however takes patients and precision.

Forged irons are going to get beat up, even in the bag. That's the nature of them. Soft irons on ball = soft irons everywhere. Some would say it gives them character.

If you do not have any equipment, you can start something like this.

And then very fine wet/sandpaper starting with rougher and moving to finer. 500/800/1200/2000 or something similar.

 

If you have a buffing wheel or a grinder to add the attachments then these will work with using the more aggressive compounds to the lesser for a shiny luster.

All types can be found on ebay or Amazon, even dremel type of tools. Just a little research will set you going.

To me, it's like a pair of jeans, a baseball glove, or a guitar neck that you wore down yourself through years of playing.

Just be careful with sanding chrome.  You can easily sand off a thin layer of chrome, exposing the copper below.  Once you've done this you cannot go back.  You're better off removing the head and sending it for refinishing to Jim at The Iron Factory.

Yup, use the head until you wear though the chrome.  Then if that upsets you send them for refinishing.  A lot of guys keep playing them until they get really bad.  Can't fault that approach but once the grooves are worn away they heads are DONE.  You can't put metal back on.

Toothpaste.  Not the gel but the paste. Apply on scratched area and let it dry overnight then wet sand using at least 1000 grit till smooth.  Colgate works better than other brands from my experience.
