Payne Stewart - Hall of Fame

Payne Stewart won three Major Championships before he was tragically lost in the prime of his career.

 

Is he worthy of a posthumous induction to the Hall of Fame?

 

 

PGA tour has an award named after him. Contemporaries of Payne with fewer Majors have been inducted. Only 11 Tour wins with 24 total professional wins.

Wow...great suggestion. I was a big fan of Payne and the tour misses the panache he brought to the tour. Such a great swing...such a great character. Voting yes.

Absolutely he does. He had such innate charisma and my second favorite swing of all time.

I'm watching Golf's Greatest Rounds and saw his name. Looked at his Wikipedia page and no mention of HOF.

[/quote]If you look at the pure numbers yes, almost the exact same win/major record. The difference is the fans and the media loooooove Freddy, Tom had the reputation of being a total arse so I am not sure who is going to want to vote for him.

He has 0 pga tour wins and 0 majors.

Being a European guy, he still missed the cut 8 out of 20 times he played The Open.

He missed the cut 9 out of 20 times at the PGA Championship.

He missed the cut 6 out of 15 for the Masters too.

His stats all in since 1990 thru 2010 (84 majors played)

top 5's 6x

So basically for half the majors of his career he didn't even play the weekend.

A goose-egg on the biggest golf tour, and in the biggest golf tournaments makes someone "hall of fame"? Come on son.


He's a good professional golfer. To use the term Hall of Fame is weak.

I am actually more surprised that he is not already.

He was know for being kindov a jerk early in his career. But I think he may have done a couple of the classiest things I have ever seen on a golf course.

1. Conceding Montes putt from 1000 feet after he know the US had won, and after the crowd had been at Monte all day.
2. The " your a father" in Phils face after the now statueized (is that even a word haha) putt that he made to win the US open.

why Weiskopf before O'Meara? same number of PGA wins (16) and O'Meara has 2 majors to Weiskopf's 1. Why the love?
