Also picked up a set of Macgregor Tourney 953 persimmons, all original and very nice condition. Not sure if I am keeping them or not yet. Will try to post pictures if I keep them, if not they will be on the bay soon..

Never have been a Scotch drinker. Primarily due to a near death experience with warm Cutty Sark back in the day. Just smelling it would elicit bad flashbacks.

That said, was at a Christmas party last weekend with friends. In the crew were two notorious Scotch drinkers. Offered me some. Said no thanks, citing the above situation. They insisted, telling me that I might like this. I relinquished and was poured a wee bit (not wanting to be a ungracious guest).

Pow, Zowie. It was fantastic. They were drinking theirs neat. However, the host added a couple of ice chips to mine, being a newb. Finished it and was poured a proper amount. Wrote down exactly what I was drinking: Balvenie 12 Year Double Wood. I do not want to call it an epiphany, but it was close. Amazingly good.

Thought about picking up a bottle until I discovered it was about $60 per. Never spent close to that much on a bottle of booze in my life. I do not need something else to blow my $ on. Maybe it won't taste quite as good the next time? How do I explain this to the Mrs.?

However, maybe I could sell off a putter or two.....you know.......financing. Wouldn't really be like spending my own money.

Edit Note: excuse me for a possible thread jack. But...if I was to take the plunge, technically it would be a new acquisition. Right?
LOL It ain't a threadjack you did technically make a new acquisition ---- A new acquisition for scotch!! :)

Here is a recent pick up. Unfortunately these have regular flex shafts so off to the bay with them..

Picked a set of those as well in the fall. Don't know the shaft flex as bands are worn, feel stiffish. Of the recent iron set acquisitions, these may be not the most aesthetically pleasing. However, I seem to hit the ball best with these. Going to refurb them with grips and extensions this winter.

Nice pickup CC.

So I was typing while tired last night.. LOL!

These are Macgregor Tourney 653's, Tommy Armours. All original except the driver grip has been replaced but the fairway woods all have leather wrap grips. Really great shape overall, could use new varnish and a clean up.

Enjoy!

Okay It's been a little while, but I've picked up couple of things over the past few weeks.....

The original Slazenger / Dunlop Stainless Seve blades 4-SW

Hogan Apex Grind's 3-SW

H&B Powerbilt Super Citation's 1, 3 & 4 woods
The Seve set is unlikely to get played, I picked them up for sentimental reasons.
The Hogan's are in exceptional condition, they look to have seen little use. Original half cord Hogan grips and Apex 3 shafts. I'll reshaft these with something a little more to my liking and will definitely be salvaging those grips.
The Powerbilt's too are in great original condition with the exception of the driver which looks to have been in an accident ..... or someones taken out their frustrations on it, anyway it will live again after I re-shaft it. The Powerbilts all have original grips, shaft bands and also Japanese stickers on the shafts.

As you might have guessed, I've already fallen in love with the 4 wood....

Love those,Grinds! Well the Seve irons are quite nice too!
Cheers, The Seve irons have a some special significance for me, my father had the Seve bug bad when he first took up golf in his forties. I Remember him buying a set of these new as his first set, unfortunately he couldn't really handle them and traded them some months later for some Wilson 1200 GE's IIRC :dntknw: ... what was he thinking? There is a high possibility that these were actually his as these are quite rare down this end of the world, approximately thirty years have past and these are the only other set that I have ever physically laid my eyes on.

 • 2 weeks later...

My last act of club ho'in for the year culminated on NYE by winning a bid for a set of '99 Hogan Apex irons. Not Classic in the strictest sense, not really that old. But I had been looking for a set of Hogan blades and my research indicated that this model may be the best of the more recent designs. They have been reshafted with Nippon 950gh in R flex, a shaft I have some experience with. Lighter weight and R flex is my golf swing reality these days. These were flying somewhat under the radar (timeing, not Apex shafted, ?) but picked them up for a reaonable price IMO. Kind of anxious to get them next week, and head to the golf dome for a test drive. Sure they will need extensions (all my irons generally do) and the lighter weight shafts help the SW issue. I'll either learn to hit them well or look like a fool trying to hit "Playa" clubs. TBD. A couple of pics from the listing:

I'm done acquiring. It's time to thin the herd down, sell off what I'll likely never play, that's my new year's resolution. Honest.

Except, maybe, might need a nice set of Apex woods to round out the Hogan bag.

nice hogans!-how tall are you? i usually have to extend most of my sets too but the ones from the 90,s usually are fine.
I'm 6'3" with 38.5" WTF. We'll see how these measure up when in hand and swung. Current modern 6i at 38.25" which is +1". Certain alchemy involved with extending, lie angle adjustment and SW to get the proper "fit". I prefer a SW in the D2-D4 range.

Having said this, playing Classics thru the latter half of last season forced me to be "thinking" less about spec. issues. I was playing irons "as found", waiting to mod. this winter. Concentrated on trying to execute the proper swing and feeling the club. This may be SOP for many here, has not always been the case for me. Should be in hand mid-week. Looking forward to taking the Hogans, a couple of Wilson Staffs that are regripped and the Mac 693T TA 3W that is now ready to hit. Will have to find a bay that is not in the middle of everyone hitting their new Christmas toasters.

That's pretty sweet looking MM. However, your posting is lacking in the details department. This isn't 'Nam, there are rules. Full disclosure of that bag is needed. Details to follow will be acceptable in the short term. TIA.

Here is a Stewart 1 iron I picked up on Ebay over the weekend. Nice, you say but nothing out of the ordinary.
However, look at the next photos.
You will see the legend PerWhit and the patent details. It's a pyrotene sheath over hickory with full patent details. It's not the first I've seen or posted on Golfwrx (Forgan Black Magic putter), but I've never seen this detail before. There is also a patent E Whitcombe grip, a rubberised canvas strip giving a ridged appearance and secure feel.

There is still a lot of good hickory around in the UK, some of which will be unknown to the US.
