Great find. I was enjoying hitting a one iron (mostly off the tee) towards the end of last year, but I imagine yours will be a proper handful.

And a patented pyrotene shaft over hickory? That's a patent to protect a hickory shaft pretending to be a steel shaft pretending to be hickory? Or is it an anti-corrosion treatment for wood? Either way, the mind boggles.

I'm indebted to Geoff, Blade Junkie, for mailing me a copy of the page in Ralph Livingstone's book where a set of these is illustrated.
It got me thinking about how this stuff was applied. On a steel shaft you could be forgiven for thinking this was some sort of enamelling process. But that wouldn't work on the voluptuous curves of a hickory shaft and where I was able to slide the whole sheath down to butt up against the hosel..
So, I'm thinking that the clue is in the name, pyrotone or pyrotene, whichever. Could be it's the forerunner of heat-shrink pvc, if anybody actually knows now would be a good time to chime in.

I'm hoping to get my hands on a copy of the Patent. Also, when, if ever, spring comes around I'm going to take it out and see how it works and whether it's worth more than a guest appearance in the Hickory Homer playing bag.

These crossed my path and I couldn't resist. The 80-84 Top Flite blades which the Lt Grinds are based on. Essentially the difference with my 90's LT's is that they sport a little bounce, a hair of trailing edge relief and all round the finished edges are a little more contoured.

These arrived with DG R100's which went straight in the bin, I'd never encountered them before and hopefully I never will again either. These heads also have threaded hosels, remnants from Spaldings stint with .340 taper shafts. However these are thankfully .355 taper.

I've never spent a moment's time looking at a set of blades, but those certainly appeal to my eye. They even look fairly playable to me with a bit more sole width that would suit my steep angle of attack.

I've had this MT TA 693T with a TT Tourney shaft (narrow gold shaft band, no flex designation) for awhile. Have been struggling to date it via Kaplan. Best I can determine is1952, but I have a hard time believing that given its overall condition. Has had a repair done on the face in the heel area. Know that Mac did a lot of remakes, don't know if this is one. Would one of the Mac experts help me out, I have this "thing" about trying to accurately date my vintage sticks.

Installed a grip and took it to the gold dome for a test drive recently. Sure was hitting it nicely (for a 110 yd. inside shot). Unless my eyes were deceiving me, was hitting the classic start low and elevate shot that I never hit with the moderns. Looking forward to playing it come this golf season.

Thank you to whoever put this Aussie putter up for adoption... $2.50 a couple of weeks ago (incl an as-new new tackimac putter grip), it has seen 36 holes since then and 99% eliminated 3 putts. My Bullseye wide flange is officially in storage.

Since you mentioned grips, always liked Lamkin PermaWraps. The older version that was all rubber (I think). Especially the Classic version with the colored spiral. Haven't been made for a couple of years now. They have that old timey look that's perfect for Classic clubs. Had given up hope that I would find them again, but sometimes, you never now what might show up on the Bay.

Listing for a set of 13, black with gold stripe, NOS, last one available. I thought about it for about ten seconds then scooped for $45. Happy camper. Now just need to figure out what clubs are worthy of their installation.

As I remember it, the reason the PermaWrap Classics are so hard to find is they were tagged as non-conforming. I believe the "grooves" or "channels" in the wrap were too deep?

Have succumbed to the inevitable. I thought I had a moratorium on buying new (to me) irons. Even been talking about clearing some out. But there's been something of a glut of redlines on ebay this last week, and for a small outlay of cash I had to (yes m'lud, HAD to) find out what all the fuss is about.

No idea what flex shafts are fitted, or even if its a matched set, and neither does the seller - but I'm curious to see the heads that so many people seem to venerate. All for less cash than I spent celebrating Christmas in the pub with my work colleagues -that is until I start looking at new grips, shafts and a no doubt ludicrously overpriced matching 2 iron.

Your 693 3 wood appears original early 1950s not a remake. That is definitely the real Macoy. Remakes had different font on the sole plate.

OK, I'll admit to being a little jealous of some the awesome finds (for awesome prices) I've seen on this thread. I've checked out my local Goodwill's a bit here and there, but hadn't come up with anything worth buying much less mentioning here. Last week I was traveling in Tucson and happened into a Goodwill and found these beauties. 2-9 irons plus a sand wedge. All are in really nice shape with little pitting, matching serial numbers, intact ferules, and really nice grips. Looks to me like these are the 1955 model (three concentric rings, hosel pins, and the "v" shaft). What I can't figure out is the FOLBERTH stamp. It's stamped perfectly on each club in the same place, from the factory maybe? I've done some googing but nothing has turned up yet. Anyone have ideas? Can't wait to swing these guys on the course.

Magnificent pickup ebeer. Congratulations. Bet you got all "tingly" when you discovered those in the rack. Especially being a complete set PLUS the sw. I found a set of Colokroms (no sw, 7/10 condition) last fall dirt cheap. Wonderful examples of club craftsmanship. Can hit them worth a lick, but man are they beautiful. Good luck when you put them into play. Just a hunch, but I'm thinking there is more thrift store shopping in your future. Be careful, clubs have a way of expanding exponentially when one goes down that path.

Excellent trifecta MM. They all look wonderful, but those Wilson buttonback reissues are especially nice. Like that last pic, old and new together. Are those new as in golf shop new? I was in a local golf emporium awhile back, kicking the tires. Saw a set of Wilson staffs blades (don't remember the model description) that impressed me. Looked pretty similar to those FG Tours. Didn't hit them, just looked them over. Well designed IMO. One more set to add to the forever expanding radar list.

No not golf shop new, being wilson irons 2nd hand they go very cheap, new admittedly they are £600+ , certainly wouldnt pay that.

They were a couple of degrees upright which puts a lot of people off, currently in the process of bending them back.

Have to say that out of three the spaldings have the edge, cannot belive what a good looking iron they are. They shall be put into play this week sometime, only issue is they are r300 which isnt going to do me any favours, still they will be in the bag.

Anybody know when the tour editions and slazengers were made? Assuming mid late 80's maybe early 90's?

MM, for the Tour Editions, they sure look a lot like these (1988 - 91). Maybe your eye can detect a difference.
