J13's WITB: Update- FUJIKURA AXIOM

What are you currently playing it at? I just got my TSi3 in yesterday and gonna switch my Ventus Black 70X into it. Will probably start at 44.5", but may try my Rome 888 in it which will probably played 43.5" in my M2 head.

Right now the SLDR 430 is at 43.75".  I have a 2nd Ventus Black 7X waiting for another head then I'll build up the 2.0 project.  Just been busy and working on my swing and ive found over the years that I can't do non stop testing and expect to maintain my game.

Got my shafts built up for the TSi3, Ventus Black 7X @ 44.5" and Rome 888 @ 43.75". Now just need time and the rain to stop. And 8-10g of head weight, lol.

Finally got to the range for a bit yesterday. Love the look at address of the TSi3 and the face looks deeper than most modern drivers. Just never fell in love with the look of the Ping. Warmed up and started with the Ventus, which I anticipated would win out, and WOW, long, straight, and easy to hit. Thought, I've found it! Been working on shortening my swing and staying in tempo. Started going after it and hit a few wayward shots, blocks and a few hooks. Got back on track and figured I'm here, I'll hit a few with the Rome. It actually felt straighter and like I could go after it a little more without losing it right. Don't know if it's the shaft or the length? Rome is 43.75" and Ventus is 44.50". Need to get them on the course, but right now, the Rome is in it. Need to see if I can get a matte black 888...

That will be amazing.  I want to go and will be looking into it that's for sure.  The Ryder Cup is without a doubt the most amazing sporting event I've ever been to.  The energy was insane the whole week so much so that my body is literally fried.  Going to definitely need a day or two to recover from this and i'm not talking about drinking or anything like that.  Just raw emotion for 10hrs a day and the course was a bear to walk.  Just amazing.

It seems that there are no weekly tickets available anymore, at least not on the European side, all gone within 3 days.. But given the performance of the European team during the last 3 days some might want to sell their tickets…. Hopefully there will be a bit more competition!

The walk was similar to Caves in terms of difficulty.  The hardest thing about Whistling Straights were the dunes/mounds that you walked on. It was all wire grass and as slick as ice.  People were going down all week, including myself.

Yeah that's how it was for the 2020 RC.  Rome would be an awesome place to watch it

Rome is an incredible city, lived there for 17 years. I played several times Marco Simone, before the redesign. A friend of mine went to the Italian Open a few weeks ago and told me that he recognized only 3 holes….

Sounds amazing and can’t wait to see the setup. Never been to Rome but I still have family in Italy. Hope to make it over there one day.

haha.  Update with a conclusion tomorrow:

 

I've ended up doing a lot of testing with heads and combo's and it's down to the SLDR 430 w/VB 7X vs Ping G425LST w/ VB 7X.  SLDR is just so good at this length (43.75)  I'm honestly shocked it's still in the running.  In any case tomorrow i'm going to get some holes in and declare a winner.  

 

For reference Ping is 44.5".  I would not say one is longer than the other.  Both rockets.

Different in every way.  Sound on the G425LST is good because I melted it in my shop.  Unfortunately I didn't get to the course today due to a long list of chores.  Tomorrow I'll get out though so we shall see.

that's what i don't like about my 0211 but i don't know anyone that hot melts...the mini 300 is in the driver spot but contemplating going back to it's stock length (with the tensei av raw blue 60s) for no reason other than to tinker.

I do a lot of hotmelt work for guys on here so just shoot me a pm.

 

On another note: 

 

Both setups are awesome but the Ping G425LST is so much more stable.  Even at the shorter length, the Ping is just very consistent across the face and for that reason it will take over the driver spot.  I hit 80% of fairways today and I didn't feel like I was doing anything special.  For me, the shorter length really helps me limit the damage of getting stuck.  

 

Ping Setup: As it stands it's 44.5" but I found that choking up 1/2" made it even better and more comfortable so i'm going to take another 1/2 off the length which will also allow me to add some more melt to improve acoustics that's much more and lower spin.  I'm kinda creating a Ping G425 LST 2.0.  And fortunately with the rear weight still at stock weight I have plenty of room to move more weight around via hotmelt if needed.

I'm gutted for the Sldr to be honest. I'm still going to try one when I can afford it

The SLDR 430 isn't going anywhere and I might flirt with a 2 driver setup over the winter to just see how it goes.  Think of it as the 6th man off the bench.  Maybe not a starter but gets plenty of minutes on the court.

haha it's not friendly but at 43.75" it goes from least forgiving driver to super forgiving mini driver.     The Ping is much more stable and easier to hit consistently but the 430 looks great behind the ball and you can really work shots with it.  Love both for different reasons.
