Does anyone know of a way to find a list of Denver tournaments? Preferably team-based events (best ball, shamble, scramble, etc). I play enough single strokeplay in men's league, and would love to play in a few "fun" events....even if they are full of cheating bastards :nono:

check out Spring Valley - they have stuff all the time. They also try to eliminate cheating by sending out groups in 8-some with each 4some scoring for each other.

Hey all, I'm up at the north end of Denver - member at The Ranch in Westminster. Great group of guys, good track, nice private club. Back at the beginning of this thread, I saw folks wondering about the place, feel free to post Q's here, or PM me, happy to help.

Anybody interested in playing RCC, let me know, we can make it happen.

Would love to play RCC. It's 3 minutes from my house and have been wondering about the course myself - I've heard it's short, but in good condition. We should try to get out some time.

That sounds awful. Well if it makes you feel better I was invited to shoot clays today at Colorado Clays but my wife is downtown and I have my son through noon...which is great...but no clays for me!

I think the only good news to all of this rain is that the threat of massive flooding like two years ago is pretty much nil. I can now probably wait two weeks to turn on my sprinkler system.

My daughter and her school's choir was supposed to sing the national anthem at the Rockies' game last night. Trying to keep 85 tweens calm and entertained while waiting in a sterile hallway under Coors Field for two hours was a fun challenge.

Supposed to play at Murphy Creek on Saturday for the first golf league event.

The courses sure will be lush after all this rain! Have an early tee time at Murphy Creek on Sat with some buddies, hoping we get to play but 80% T storms and 10-20mph winds on a 60 degree day may not allow that.

I may have gotten lucky and timed things well - have a tee time this afternoon at GVR :yahoo:. Hoping the rain holds off until it gets dark.

I had a chance to get out last weekend for the first time at Black Bear with a buddy who is a member. Started off hot with +2 through 5, then crashed and burned hard for the next 6-7 holes. Oh well, it's early and I haven't taken the game seriously in years due to kids. Hoping this will be the year though. I picked up a range pass at Family Sports, and am going to try to play or hit balls at least twice a week. Hoping to join a men's club next year too. Do you need to have an established handicap prior to joining men's club?

It's not necessary, but highly recommended that you get your handicap established (they are processed on the 1st and 15th of the month) before your first league event--otherwise, you'll simply be considered a 0 handicap.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but so long as your round followed the Rules of Golf, you can actually post scores three years in arrears of the date you first get your GHIN #. You can also establish a GHIN right now if you'd like. It's anywhere between $35-50 at almost any golf course in the state; I think Family Sports Center is $40.

Ended up getting 9 in before it started to rain, so I consider that a win :). Ended up shooting a 43, which included a triple on #5 par 3, and doubling the first hole with an OB tee shot. For some reason, I never play #1 well for being such an easy hole. My iron play was quite good, my short game was meh, putting was solid for a change, and my driving was frustrating (I did take a mulligan on one tee box, so my score was a bit worse). Thankfully it's early in the season!

And I enjoyed Black Bear overall. Seems like a pretty good deal as for as memberships go. The pace of play was probably my favorite part. It's nearly impossible to get a sub 5hr round on the weekends and we were done in just over 4hrs. That alone is worth the price of membership!

Agree with the pace of play. They really stress in MGA events. Played my first last weekend, pace was expected to be 4:35 or less. If over you get penalized for each minute (i think) over - they even time stamped your scorecard on #1 (after the last player hit).

I'm never a fan of the quasi-blind, up-and-over the hill tee shot. Always makes me pull-hook my drive.

What if you're not the one holding the group up? Golf on the weekends is getting ridiculous with 5+ hour rounds if you're not one of the first off.

And that's pretty much what I did! I pulled mine hard left. Thought I may have had a chance to be in the rough, but I wasn't so lucky. If I could bomb it like some of my friends, I would have been on the green lol.

Anybody have a preference for Murphy Creek or Saddle Rock? Planning to play at least one of them when I have family in town this summer, wondering which would be better.

I find the exact opposite to be true. The tips at MC are quite difficult for a muni.....Saddle Rock is fun although a bit funky on some holes, but I like that.

Evergreen and Wellshire are really the only two municipal courses in this area I enjoy. The Creek nine at Kennedy is not bad either.
