For the people thinking about playing Bethpage on July 28th, I just called the reservation line and it said the course is closed that day for maintenance. Also closed on the 25th and 26th. Phone number is 516-249-0707.

this is very pertinent information. thanks.

For those in the top 5-10 of the CCCP - where did your handicap start the season, and where is it now?

was a 6.8 at the end of march. currently a 5.6, which is up from my low of 5.1.

Waiting with bater breath

almost got this by me. nice.

I played pretty well in the match vs DT today. My main plan was to keep my drive in play, which I mostly did. I only lost a tee shot on #12, our 5th hole, but so did DT, so it evened out. I shot a 46-46=92, which is the best I've ever shot at Blue Mash, and right on my handicap differential.

We would have been even on the first 9 if DT hadn't gifted me the first hole, #10. :)

On the back DT epitomized the "you can't talk to a hook" adage. What had been a nice draws for him turned into snap hooks and/or blocked shots right.

I kind of screwed up the last hole, #9, after the match was over. Good drive, decent hybrid, but then I hooked a 5 iron into the pond and shanked a couple chips. Lest I be accused of sand bagging, I wrote in a 7 for handicapping purposes. :)

@Fabb, I was probably an 18.5 at the beginning of the year, and I'm down to a 15.7.

This is pretty much what I expect to see. Unless somebody is playing tons of rounds, I bet folks at the top of the leader board are also dropping their index over the course of the season, or at the very least bobbing up and down a bit.

We've all heard about Tom Hanks' incredible method acting. This time, he had plastic surgery as well as establishing an 11.7 index (that is downward trending).

The man is dedicated to his craft, no doubt.

I got home from work today and saw two boxes on the porch. I knew one was the golf balls I bought on eBay. The other one was obviously a golf club, based on the shape and markings on the box. I sat in my car thinking, "did I get really drunk and buy a club I don't remember?"

It turns out the club was addressed to a house the next block over. I'm not sure which is worse - thinking it's completely feasible that I drunkenly bought a golf club and have no recollection of it, or the mail man just assumes every golf club he delivers in the neighborhood is mine and he doesn't even check the address on those packages any more.

And before you ask, I took the package over to the neighbor's and dropped it off. And no, I never thought about opening it to see what the club was. Not for a second. Ever.

Uh-huh... and the guys who say they'll drink water this weekend playing golf are going to stay true to that and not drink beer...

Bopped around Hobbits yesterday with PQ, Baddomes, and Outlier. , ,new guy (to the Hive anyway) who wanted to check out Hobbits before playing in a mid-am there in a month or so.

PQ and I vs. them for a brews.

Outlier can stick.

He drove up to Hobbits after taking a train in from The Big Apple that day, barely any warm up and bombed one about 285 down the middle on 1 and stuck his next to about 10 feet to a back pin. Pretty much drove the corner on 2 with a 3 wood, and I was like, "uh oh". But, he put his next one in the Bunker That Shall Not Be Named and had a couple issues from there.

Too bad for them, I finally got a round going. I was -1 after 7 before finishing the front bogey-bogey. I was +2 after 13 and looking at one of my top rounds ever before straight jacking one OB on 14 and making trip. Fortunately, PQ tossed in pars on 9 and 13 to keep the pressure on.

Tried giving Outlier some good beta and it helps that he can hit the shots. Hit a beautiful little draw on 10 that he started up the right side and had a safe 160 shot in (which he stuck). He played a baby draw off the bunker on 17 with a long iron and had about 120 in from the right side of the fairway. Hit shots to 6 feet on 13, and 20 feet on 14. he couldn't sink a thing though, and he did find a couple of the trouble spots (bunker on 2, trees on 6, left bunker on 11 with a left pin, flew the green on 12 from about 90 yards), but if he remembers those places not to miss, he'll put up a good number. I think he hit about 11 greens, seeing it first time from the back tees, so, yeah.

Course, magically, seemed to be in nicer shape than the day before. Much less traffic yesterday than the day before and the greens didn't seem to be a see of ball marks. They were running a nice speed, and all those runnels in the fairway are filling in.

Got to the bar, and there were like 10 empties strewn about. Took forever to get food and drink, and it did not arrive with a smile. And it wasn't Bye Felicia.

I think this ownership change they're going through is affecting service. Hopefully in a couple weeks, it gets back to what it should be.

City, stupid question, but I thought HG was owned by the city of Columbia(?) - or run by the local HOA? Thought Fabb had said you could only join if you were a paying member of the Columbia Assoc? Also - I might have just made all that up.

Got out last night for 30 min of putting and chipping, back felt pretty good after playing Wednesday so I'm really looking forward to hitting Bethpage and Ferry Point next week. Bethpage looks like they have @ 75% of the grandstands and suites built up for the Barclays.

Hoping to get out early one day this weekend before the sun really comes out.

Hobbits Glen is owned by Columbia Association.

I think you can only PLAY if you are a CA member (for a greens fee), or if you get an annual golf membership there. The annual golf membership can be had by ANYBODY (like me), but it's a little cheaper if you're a CA member.

If you're not a member and not a CA member, you can't play there w/o a member. Like, you can't just call them up with 3 pals and get on there.

Not a stupid question though. It's confusing.

That said, the ownership change I was talking about is the Coho Grill. They're getting a new owner and new chef. They're actually only loosely affiliated with the golf course.

Get out there early. I'm playing at 9:30 on Saturday and NOON on Sunday. Planning on carting both days. I'm ready to bake.

Ocean Pines Junior Tournament yesterday, my son tied for 2nd and played really well, lost to a pro's kid. But my daughter finally got to play against other girls finally! AND SHE WON!! Sweet trophy, but because my daughter is a girly girl, she felt the trophy needed a certain something, something fit for royalty:

The scoring was odd for this- normally for the little kids they stop at double par, but the scorer scored everything but total whiffs. So you had kids who had a 14 on a hole, etc. Felt a little bad for the kids that they did that, but it worked out.

Yeah but..... Where are the ocgolfrick karaoke videos??

Good time as always with the dudes yesterday. Outlier is a solid guy. Great addition to the group.

City had it working.

PQ did not have it working to an acceptable level to him. Putting and short game were, as always, solid.

Outlier really got it going on the back. Dude has a great swing and can see him putting up a score anywhere. Also taught him a couple things about his brand new clicgear, like where the brake is located, and how to adjust the bungee to lock the bag. It was like watching a fawn learn how to walk. They grow up so fast.

I have been fighting something off the last couple days, feeling pretty sick, and by the back nine I was wiped out. A couple good takeaways, this new move I'm leaning has me hitting a draw, and smashing the s*** out of my driver. I need more work, but hit some really solid shots yesterday.

Broke my fever overnight. Woke up at 130 and had sweat so much that I had to change my sheets and ALL FIVE of my pillowcases. Feeling much better today. Thank you for asking.

Was going to ask you how you were feeling - then learned you have five pillowcases. That seemed the more pertinent issue to dig into.

Am I alone in thinking it's funny that someone put a couple of strips of lead tape on the back of a PXG wedge?

It already has 11 screws in it!!!

I'm surprised that club only came out as D2. I've heard the swingweights on those even with crazy heavy shafts ends up being really heavy.

Should be more clear, five pillows. One case per pillow. All king size.

This body needs support in every sleep position, and I got tired of moving pillows from one side of me to the other when I rolled over,so I just bought more pillows to frame myself in.
