My good fortunes with thread hype this am bled over into my afternoon jaunt around UMD. Solid winter rules 76. A lot of the game was easy. Threw some serious darts with the irons and hit the AB well again for the most part.

 

Tex is fighting changes, but I gave him an unsolicited 13th swing thought that really seemed to straighten things out. Hit some beauties. Hit some stinkers. Wedge shafts seemed to fit him well.

 

Bangass can hit some legitimately excellent golf shots. His play is very inconsistent, but to me it doesn't seem physical. Everything looks good until it's bad. Gotta be some mental garb goin on. Short game is trash. Also may never play golf with me again because I rib him overly frequently.

The natural choice here is a PW or 9i right? If you get in a bunker you better have some plan of getting out?

 

i second the 7i, but you know your course best. if there are plenty of bunkers that NEED a 9i to get out of... well, either play so conservative that you never get in them with a 6/7i, or take that 9/pw.

 

i'd like to think you can avoid all bunkers easily when you have a 7i in your hand.

Last paragraph of eagles post was my 1st thought, chances of DC getting in a bunker with that swing of urs has to be low.

Jj - if you want to make a new tournament, I don't think the Hive would disapprove of putting it on our agenda. Email me and eagle and Abb off list. Also, my initial idea for 7s was DC vs Baltimore or MD vs VA, but it's tough to get the crew for that. I think we could find a way to do 3 regional teams though and make something happen.

 

VERY interesting round today. Long story short : really never came close to a birdie or a double bogey. I shot 79 which might be my best score ever from the tips. That was playing it down (and I had a lot of mud balls) and putting it out. I missed a 2 footer on 4. I made 2 bombs. 3 putt on 18. 29 putts. 5 greens. #teamKent

 

First hole, I missed the FW, but I hit it right at the trap and it stopped in the first cut. Easy bogey.

 

Second hole, missed fw with 3I but it was still in play. Hit another 3I, then 7I. Usually this year I've driven the ball well on 2 and had a wedge in.

 

Hole 3,missed left. Not good. Ended up having a tough 60 footer for par so double was in play, but instead I f*cking dropped it.

 

Hit fw on 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15, 17 and 18. Missed it with driver on 14. Hit driver on 15. Played the par 3s in even (45 footer on 5). 9/14 fw's with only one bad miss (3). Missed fw on 2 and 10 with 3 iron. Really shouldn't do that.

 

Also played a little more conservatively because I was trying to make no doubles. For instance, on 11, the shot was 7 iron to a front pin, but I hit 6 iron to make sure I wasn't short. I hit it to the back fringe and made par.

 

On 14, I had 220 in. The shot was 4w,but I hit 3 iron in front to take trouble out of play and ud'ed for a nice par.

 

I don't know what to take from it. I think I outscored Abb and PQ by a little not that we were playing a match. 3i on 6, 10, 12 was giving up a lot. I had a 4 iron in on 6 and a 6 iron in on 12. Parred both. It was nice being in the FW, but had a long way in. But it was only 1 round and I had some nice short game working.

 

I'm starting to think maybe I should just back off driver a little in some spots. I hit some nice mid irons into greens too.

Kinda bummed because they are closing the Golf Galaxy near me. We have a GG, Golfsmith and Dicks all within 3 miles of each other, down a straight line. The Golfsmi is a huge, new building and heyre gonna move the GM and Pro from GG over to the Golfsmith store but everyone else will be relocated to other Dicks stores. Kinda crappy if ya ask me. The one kid who always did my club work and looked out for me is probably gonna be gone. Not cool.

Anyone ever hit the Nippon Super Peening Blue? Looking for a smoother shaft than the C Taper that still has low spin and launch. I have heard great things. Do they still make them? Also saw someone recommend steel fibers. Are they actually a steel shaft? They have low launch and good feel? Not boards or harsh?

Steelfibers is graphite that plays like steel.

 

Nippon make great shafts so can't go wrong.

Not a huge fan of X100s. The feel isn't terrible but they spin more than the C Tapers. I heard the Tour V is spiny as well. I tried the Modus 130 when I got fitted and they ballooned like crazy. But I hear the SPB is a low spin version with great feel.
