I'm still interested in playing Nerf's imaginary golf course. The idea about the ranger is pure gold.

 

I also like the idea of the 3 loops of 6 holes. Maybe even 4 loops of 6. Rotate them around, maybe even close one of them Mon-Thur in the mornings for maintenance, one each day for upkeep. And in the evening it could be opened for the family/beginner loop. Two of them would have 1 par 5, 1 par 3, & 4 par 4's. The other two would be 2-2-2 of each. Each one would work out to be par 24. I'll take it even further that at least one would be a woodland course and one a true parkland. The others could be more modern result style.

I love the idea of The Loop at Forest Dunes. Multiple tee boxes, reversable 18 holes, can stay there and probably not play the same routing for a few days in a row. Between there and Arcadia Bluffs, really want to get up there this summer.

My course would be filled with a bunch of holes between 225 and 275 yards and then a bunch of holes between 450 and 490 yards and then one or two holes that were 600+. And when you got on the tee and asked, "is this a par 3 or a par 4", a robot would emerge from the earth and say, "you're missing the point'.

 

It would have a scratch rating and a bogey rating, but not a par rating.

 

No rough. Some trees, but trees are well-skirted and cleared underneath. Hilly with turbo slots, and "kick aways". Greens are large, but undulating in such a fashion that good angles into greens are as important as being close to the green. "Channels" that funnel balls into greens or kick them away like links courses. Two shots that are a meter apart can wind up 20 meters apart. In some places you need to chip from 5 yards away. In some places, you can putt from 60 yards away. IOW, fun.

 

No carts. Sorry, priceless. It'll be the same for me one day. No carts at Augusta. No carts at Bandon or Streamsong or Bethpage. No carts at CityLinks Golf Wonderland.

 

On the bathroom stalls, you'll get an indication of whether that stall has Charmin, or Quilted Northern.

Have any of you ever been to a course where they have the two rails, and you put your ball on the rails like it's quarters on the pool table in a bar?

 

Good system, but with the high demand we're experiencing at CityLinks Golf Wonderland, we've had to go with a tee time system.

Similar - the 9 hole muni I grew up on had a spiral wire thing (like a drain or mini-tornado looking thing made out of wire) where you dropped your ball in the top and it made its way to the bottom.

 

I still see a lot of private clubs that have no tee times. Sounds great in theory but its hard to plan ahead and ends up being a mess on weekends. No messes at CLGW - unless its in your full-length-door bathroom stalls.

I don't know how I feel about buying unknown epoxy, based on a successful use on a putter. You could probably use gorilla glue on a putter and get away with it. Let me know when you use it on an iron that travels about 90mph and slams through the turf repeatedly without it breaking. Until then, I'll stick with the golfworks epoxy.

Yes, exactly. I can't remember the last time I saw one of those. The ball spiral'ed down and then sat in a little depression.

I've read that Augusta has 50 or 60 carts on site and will actually allow the members to take them out if they so desire.

 

I don't think guests are allowed to. But then you would be 100% crazy as a guest to not take a caddie and experience all of Augusta.

Fabb, Brampton is actually not unknown at all. Their epoxy is actually rated high shear strength than the Golfsmith stuff. And no I have no idea what that means but I did enough Googling last night to see that it wasnt "unknown" and shear strength sounds pretty important. Mitchell, Hireko, RockBottom, the stuff is for sale everywhere. And thankfully I only ever use it on putters so unless I go insanse on a putter one day - it wont be an issue.

"Off brand" - to me. "Not unknown" - to club tinkerers. Its possible that both of these things can be true.

 

Early look at that 10 day looks like high 50s Tu/Wed/Th next week. Not bad for late January.

I cant remember the last time I saw one of those. I think they had something similar at Jefferson in VA but its been 20 years since I've been there.

 

Also made me want to go back and remember how much OB was on this tiny course. Again we are talking a small town, 9 hole par 32 muni.
