So next weekend the mens league is kicking off the year with a 1 club tournament, no putter. Whatever you pick better be good enough to get you out of trouble you get into.

The natural choice here is a PW or 9i right? If you get in a bunker you better have some plan of getting out? Love that they are packing the calendar with events this year.

Playing this afternoon.

I have a really stupid goal for today, but I'm going to see how it plays out.

That goal : hit every fairway.

With driver? Or will you hit 7 iron to make sure you hit every fairway?

Or whatever you normally hit on every hole?

I expect driver to make very few appearances.

Is that how you want to achieve your goal, laying up? That's like Thomas's 59...

I expect more from you so much more.

Oh - why not.....

GTT: 75

Everyone look at the MVP with his snide remarks about participating. It's 2017, everyone gets a trophy. Your game is like this dried mango I had one time, sweet, sugary, smooth in all the right places. Occasionally a bad one all dried up and half rotten. Youre gonna be like a full bag of the ripest ripes. Stop selling yourself short.

Yes. I'm going to play "more likely to hit fairways, but further from the pin".

I'm not hitting 7 iron off the first tee and leaving myself 270 in. But, it's going to be a healthy does of 4W and 3Iron.

Let's say I'm putting a STEEP premium on fairways instead of distance. I expect to make ZERO double bogeys.

life can surprise you.

what i really need to know is the width of each of the fairways at the points you plan to be hitting to. only then can you justify whether or not you successfully achieving this goal is worthy of my attention or not. i mean, hitting all the fairways by laying up has never been a goal of mine, so i need the full width fairway differential in order to see that what you are doing is actually meaningful as opposed to all those other times i hit the fairway 10/14 times when i was playing a normal round of golf and did so successfully with a higher level of difficulty.*

*see, i told you, it would be funny in a week. well, kinda funny. i mean, it's funny to me. like, snort funny, not ol kenty LOL funny. you know what i mean.

Citystrategy brings up another question...

I'll save it for later since DT is on Fire.

Please do. My fire has faded to glowing embers. Also, I want to city pick.

City, this is a convo which has been discussed many times, lately in the Ryder Cup pairings. Are you doing this solely to hit fairways, or are you testing the tee-length theorem?

Also, since I am still feeling a hair of wit, which tees will you be playing? Needed to further judge your round later.

I'm disappointed that you didn't #DT #SSYS your own GTT..

DT: 68. Practice? Practice? You don't need no practice. You play so fast that all people see are eagle feathers flying off of the cart. You saved an eagle for God's sake. Start using the karma and make many this year. Stop selling yourself short.

i second the 7i, but you know your course best. if there are plenty of bunkers that NEED a 9i to get out of... well, either play so conservative that you never get in them with a 6/7i, or take that 9/pw.

i'd like to think you can avoid all bunkers easily when you have a 7i in your hand.

Playing tips.

Let me give you an example. I am SICK AND TIRED of hitting the FW bunker on 1 at Hobbits. I'm hitting 4W.

On 2, I'm going to stay out of trouble. 3 Iron.

On 3, I hit it thru the FW too often. I'm going to hit 4W or 3I.

On 4, it's a pretty narrow fairway. I'm going to hit 3I. I might leave myself 180 in. Normally, I can get a ball to 150 ish.

On 6, I'm going to hit 3 iron to keep somthing in play. I can hit driver to 120 there. I'm going to be left with 175 probably.

In no way do I think this is an optimal way to play golf. It's an experiment.

I'm placing a PREMIUM on fairways over distance. I'm not placing an ABSOLUTE.

In no way would I expect 12/14 fairways doing this to produce as good a round as hitting 10/14 fairways with driver.

The email has been sent out and followed up with several forwards to people who weren't on my master list.

If you wanted an email and didn't get one, let me know.

Anyone reading that is more than welcome to email me.

The event is stableford and this lets you pick up after net double. First tournament of the year. You don't want to be putting for a 10 and we don't want you to.

GTTh Part Deux:

Would you rather eliminate double bogey or birdie from your potential scores. Meaning, you could make bogey every hole, but not double, ever. Or you could make par or worse every hole, but never birdie. (Eagle is still on the board though...)

interesting question. you're talking about eliminating double bogey or worse from the equation, as well as birdies, correct? i haven't made a natural eagle in over two years, so that's essentially off the table for me anyways.

after a bit of reflection, i'd like to keep scoring as is. i'll always make bogeys, and doubles. great rounds happen for me when i have a high number of birdies to offset those mistakes. plus, if i never made birdie, i'd never be under par again, and that would be a bummer.

How many of you would be interested in a tourney I'm gunna set up between districts.

I figure we can have VA vs D.C. Vs MD and since we'll all be districts in a few hours we can face off

Also wondering if we should do districts vs the Capital?

Anyways. May odds ever be in your favor. Unless your in my foursome. Then I want the odds.

Want a suggestion for a wicked twist? No? Well, here it is anyway.

Play 3-somes, with 1 from each district. And each person has an individual match against the others in their group. So, A plays B, A plays C, and B plays C. All at the same time. Makes giving putts tricky. (A could concede, but C might want to see it...) And you could par a hole, and beat the bogey but lose to the birdie. It's fun.

^^ this is what happens when you order chocolate milk.

at a bar.

almost as bad as ordering cranberry juice.

without the vodka.

JJ, i'd be interested in the threeway you are proposing, but unfortunately scheduling/location will be the determining factor if i can actually play. i think matches like this are a ton of fun. always want more matchplay in my life, specifically TEAM matchplay.

always means so much more when playing for a team.

Yes please. Although we may run into the slight issue that 95% of the thread lives in MD or DC - unless you expanded to allow for people that work in VA but live in MD.
