I've never experienced stage fright like I have at Techs stadium. Something about looking into another mans eyes while trying to take a leak just causes me to clamp up like a vise!

Imagine looking at four other guys....

Hey guys, it's been a long time. Would you recommend a good public nearby the DC area with good fast greens? I've played old hickory and westfields in the last month but wanted to check some MD courses as I've heard they have better greens in general.

Potomac Shores is almost always quick, maybe Laurel Hill, depending on aeration schedule.

Sorry I typed in "awkward urinal" and that image came up so I thought it was a urinal. Correct it's a foot operated wash trough.

Sam Adams Nitro Stout with the Celtics game tonight, almost like a smoother Guinness with a little coffee flavor mixed in. A+.

Nitro is the beer puppet just recommended to me, I believe. I'll definitely have to get some, especially now that I know Chief is all MichaelScott about it.

Seriously doubt it's smoother than Guiness tho.

Sidenote for Saturday: BubbaGump is a go. DC is a go. Sully is a go. I am a go.

Not gonna hype this up anymore than it needs to be, but I do believe no other foursome in the history of mankind will have more fun than we will on Saturday at the DCGT tourney at Bristow Manor. Gonna be a scorecard playoff when our two man teams both finish at (-18).

Weather not looking good for Saturday.

I've been tracking it since last week. There's essentially two predicted periods of rain, one on Friday, one on Saturday, with a 12 hour window of no rain inbeteeen the two.

And, the closer it gets to Saturday, the closer that window is moving to our start time.

Regardless, unless it is a dangerous situation (lightning) or the course itself closes (extremely unlikely), we're playing.

Only canceled one event in 10 years, and that was across the Bay Bridge after a hurricane/earthquake when the course closed.

Bring your rain gear just in case. :)

NYYLefty - I used the play MCC as part of a Monday Men's league that I ran a few years back. The course is pretty good, greens tended to be the main defense (firm n fast), and the people there were very good to us. I seriously considered joining there this past fall when they were running a ridiculous special. Try calling the Membership Director and asking for a tour, which would likely include a round of comp'd golf.

I've had that pork ramen at momofuku in DC.

I had one of these at Compass Point. It was tasty. I'm not above a little fruit flavor in my beer.

Eagle's "bring your rain gear" comment got me thinking...

GTW: What is the worst weather that you have ever played in?

I played in a scramble that a buddly of mine organized ~4 years ago. It was raining the entire drive to the course. We changed into rain gear in the car. It was raining when we teed off. It rained (in intervals of pouring and drizzle) for the next 17 holes. The rain finally ceased and the sun appeared on the 18th hole. The greens were flooded. It was hard to find a place with no standing water. We were all soaked and I am pretty sure I ruined a pair of Footjoys that day. But, it was a blast. We drank a ton of beer and actually hit the ball surprisingly well. I remember my one buddy making a birdie putt on the 16th. He hammered it through the water and it ended up floating in the cup.

I'm going to miss writing up these stories. . .

So Hobber's is punched right now. Went out yesterday for a quick 9 and to practice some wedges. Only the back was open.

Paired up with an oldie olsen on hole 11. Slow AF. One of these guys I've gotten behind who stands there putting his clubs back in his bag forever. Shooting a center stick with a laser while standing on the 100 yard marker in order to hit a 3W that doesn't get more than 5 feet off the ground. Has no idea where to put his bag around the green. Paces off his putts. Shuffles. Doesn't walk.

And we waited on EVERY SHOT on a twosome with a cart. I messed around on 10, finally went over to 11, thought he'd be gone. The twosome was still on the green. We get to 12, and they're still about 150 yards out. We walked to our balls which takes a long time because you need to walk around the pond and waited on them on the green.

On that hole, I dropped two balls, hit wedges in, then played my ball (3 balls). He played out to make his 6, or whatever. We got to the 13th tee and the guys in front of us were 100 yards out and 75 yards left looking for a ball.

When we got to the 13th green, I realized there wasn't another soul on the back in front of these guys and they were about 100 yards out on 14, in the right woods. I went over to the 15th to hit wedges in and played out the side. Probably hit about 50 wedges in total on the 15th, 17th, 18th. The twosome had 3 K-women walkers waiting on them.

So over it.

Citys comments brought up something I got to thinking about last night.

GTW2: Whats a reasonable amount of time from tee in the ground to hitting the ball? Including getting a line/target, fiddling with your grip, any practice swings or drills or re-fiddling with your grip - aligning to the ball and swinging/hitting it.

I played with a couple of old guys last night who are like the 70 year old DT/Tex combo and I felt like I was slowing the group down so I timed myself on a handful of shots.

BTW I was pretty amazed to read pga43's (Greg / WRX tour photog) comments on the course (Eagle Point) this week. He said he's played @ 200 courses in his life and worked another 400+ and this was the best conditioning he's ever seen on a course - including working Augusta multiple times. Looks pretty swank.

GTW1: That tourney where it was hailing about a year(?) ago.

GTW2: I'm not sure either. I know I start to get frustrated after a certain amount of time, but I don't think there's a set point. I also think it depends on the player. If a guy who stripes it takes a little while in his PSR, that's ok. But if a guy is fatting or skulling every shot, AND takes forever over the ball, then I'm getting a wee bit annoyed.

gtw : problem with this question is the worst stuff I've ever played in, I didn't finish the round, like it was raining so hard the greens were pooling and you could see the water running off them and I'm going, "I think it's letting up". I've played in constant 20+ mph winds for 18 holes. I've played in snow.

gtw2 : It's sort of like, "I know it when I see it." Here's the thing. . .I think you should be starting your PSR about when the ball is landing from the guy who just hit. And, your PSR doesn't include getting your number, grabbing your club, or even picking your target line. All that stuff should be done. I don't want to start a slow play thread, but so much could be fixed if people did things "in parallel" instead of "in series".

Even playing with some of you guys. . ."Player X" will be walking to the next tee box while I'm putting the flag in, and I'll get to the tee box and the guy's driver is still in his bag and he doesn't have his glove on.

I'm not trying to "rush" anyone but why aren't you getting ready to hit?
