MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

I have yogurt and a little granola for breakfast 4 or 5 days a week. Chobani or die MFers.

Also, I have started to pay more attention what I eat pre and during round, after noting a significant variance between front nine/back nine, especially when I played first thing in the AM with only a cup of coffee in me.

Oh. And this site sucks with all the ads and stuff. The IT geniuses at work have determined that ad blocker is corrupting my Chrome, so they made me uninstall. The user experience on this site in particular has degraded significantly.

Yup, that's the page I saw. It says that carrying a bag averages 3 more calories over pushing for 9 holes. So really not much difference.

That surprises me, but doesn't astound me. This bit was interesting. . .

Wolkodoff noted that players reached their peak heart rates at the top of two taxing, uphill holes. When they were carrying or pushing the cart, the peak heart rates went past their anaerobic thresholds, and Wolkodoff noticed a marked spike in scoring on the tougher of the two holes under these circumstances.

He attributes it to the buildup in lactic acid, which decreases fine motor skills.

Returning below the threshold took 2 minutes to 3 minutes in some cases.

This information supports the notion that aerobic and anaerobic conditioning off the course will improve performance and endurance on the course.

Weightlifting or other strength building activities will also benefit golfers who carry a bag or push a cart, because the stronger your arms and legs, the easier it is to climb hills without fatigue.

So if you walk when you play, it is a good idea to maintain solid physical condition by participating in activities such as jogging, spinning, yoga and strength conditioning.

I eat fried, grilled fatty foods and sugary Greek yogurt, but cannot put more than a touch of sugar in my oatmeal. Not sure why, maybe I'm more of an oatmeal purist.

On eating while playing, I don't think I snack enough during the round. I always feel fine, but I know when I do force myself to eat something, I stay in a better golf state until the end of the round.

I like to walk but when it comes to the competitive tournaments we play..I'll ride more times than not. No need to get a workout if I'm trying to play my best.

Now if there is another person waking in my group..I'll whip out the cart but I would rather ride if everyone else is...just keeps the dynamic together.

On eating while playing, I don't think I snack enough during the round. I always feel fine, but I know when I do force myself to eat something, I stay in a better golf state until the end of the round.

I did some group training classes before my first marathon and one of the only things I remember was the instructor reminding us that (paraphrasing) if you don't hydrate enough and you start cramping up - its too late. You cant just chug some water and expect to get better.

I kind of do the same thing with food. I try to break out a snack on the front nine, even if its just some jerky or a granola bar. I have zero idea if this is doing anything scientifically correct but I don't think it hurts either.

Agreed. I usually remember to eat something at the turn, but might do better on the 5th or 6th hole. I'm also carrying Gatorade power now, esp for the DC summers.

I wonder how much nutrition beer provides... I should starting drinking those before the turn too...

Whatever, my Grinticap is now 11.1, I should be drinking before the round even starts.

We gave this advice to Gmen at the TRU. He played much better with a couple of Yuenglings in him. He needs to start pregaming on the range.

BreakfastTalkFriday: I've gotten into eating scrambled eggs with a protein shake in the mornings after a run/gym sesh. Sometimes with toast. When I'm too lazy for that, I'll just have some Cheerios. Or if I have Fruity Pebbles on hand, I'll eat an entire box of those.

Or if it's the weekend, sometimes I like to see how many waffles will fit in my stomach.

I'm probably going to have to worry about my health sooner or later.

Anyone golfing this weekend? This weekend rain is killing me.

I have a Sunday morning tee time at the Beck. Should be ok based on current projections.

I played a few holes out there last night. The rough is thick out there right now. The greens were firm too. I hit a high 56* into the 10th that hit before the hole and rolled through the green. The rain today & tomorrow should soften them up though. I saw PQ over on the putting green when I teed off. He's working on a nice beard.

Rain "chances" this weekend. Meh.

7:00 AM with PQ at PR tomorrow. We both need to be home by noon. Have not worked out breakfast schedule.

Hoping to play a lot better than I did two weeks ago there. Tomorrow might have time to hit a couple drives on the range.

I'm probably gonna try to get out tomorrow during the tail end of the rain. I enjoy playing in the rain, and courses tend to be empty, so maybe I'll swing by Falls Road or something and get 18 in.

If you feel like playing, let me know. My weekend is open.

So... today's random activists in front of the White House were protesting...

I wonder if they tee it off from the tips or a little further down...

Supposed to play with some folks tomorrow at Stoneleigh in Round Hill at 10:30. Bringing the rain gear.

I played there once in a junior tournament. All I remember is there was one hole with a crazy uphill approach to the green.

I haven't actually played there before or with these people. We'll see how it goes.
