MD/VA/DC Golfers - Ten Seconds or Less

Recommended Posts

As I mentioned on Thursday, I cancelled my round this morning, which was a good thing, since it poured until about 11.

Went up to the local 9 hole muni (Jefferson) this afternoon after the rain stopped, intending to just chip and putt. saw only a couple cars in the lot, so decided to take the Sunday bag with 7 clubs and play a quick 9. After doubling 1 (bad chip and three putts trying to figure out the speed of the wet greens) and bogeying 2 (bad drive), I got on a roll. Par, birdie (15 foot putt), par, then stepped up to 6, a 250yd par 4 (I said, local muni) hit my 3 wood left (plenty of room to miss) and left myself an uphill 65 yard chip to a back pin. couldnt see the bottom of the flagstick. Hit my chip and figured i had a good line buut couldnt see the ball land or roll. Walked up to find the ball in the hole for an eagle 2. Short par 3 next and hit a wedge to 15 feet and sank the putt. Smoked a 3w on 8, hit a bad 8 iron to the back, but made a 2 good two putt par. Smoked another 3 wood on the 255yd 9th on a perfect line that 95 percent f the time would have bounced up on the green, but, alas, it landed in a puddle (i could see the splash from the tee) and came up in the rough short. mediocre chip and two putts later had my 1 under 34.

Listen, it's a short little muni, 2500 yards, but it has some trickeration to it. Several holes have trees that restrict access to the flag, lots of slope in the greens. Whatevs. Better than sitting at home watching the Nelson.

Sorry to hear that Sully. Hope it gets better tomorrow.

If anyone is looking to play Oak Creek tomorrow am, my buddy Ponytail Alan has a spot at 9:40. $40 to ride (he has a coupon).

Let me know and I'll pass on info. I'm not playing myself unfortunately.

Monte clinic was wet. We were in a big tent with one bay to hit balls on to the range then another 3 with foam balls hitting in to the side of the tent. So we stayed dry at least, except my feet got a little miserable at one point. Learned two good things to work on during the clinic, but couldn't really work on them because of our rain setup. Made for a bit of a long day since there often wasn't much to do except listen and watch others (not that that's a bad thing entirely). If the weather had cooperated we would have had the full range for people to work on their own things during the downtime. I think we did as well as possible given the circumstances though.

Hoping tomorrow's weather will work out better, but doesn't look too promising. Looking forward to working on the things I learned today and then get some short game tips.

+1, I realllly hope we have some more time tomorrow to actually hit balls. It's good getting group feedback but I think everyone wanted some time to try and apply it.

Simple things: Sully's feedback was some more vertical wrist hinge, and I need to get my right hip moving properly and stopping a bad chain reaction. The BodiTrack pressure mat was pretty badass though, both for setup and the full swing.

I extended TheCityBlade to 33" and put a PING PP58 midsize on it. I'm positive my putting woes are now a thing of the past...

Is the ABB Byron gone then? You hit more nice putts with that one that I personally saw than all your other putter experiments combined.

That was the flagstick for that epic Blue Mash round, right?

I hate putting. I think I used at least a 1/2 dozen grip variations the other day. I could not get my hands comfortable on the grip

Did you try the garsen yet?

Chang my grip on the putter never did anything for me. Left hand low was the one thing I tried and while my stroke was smoother than my conventional stroke at the time, I couldn't get speed right at all. I still putt with a normal grip, a bit through the palms, my right index finger down the side of my Super Stroke grip and my putting has never been better.

I have my slip ups - sure. I notably remember four putting from playing the first time Ive ever had a putt affected by wind - ball actually moving while trying to line up the putt. I since stopped using the "line" on my ball from the logo and just keep things simple. I'm just dedicated more time to putting now (same grip as always, lining up just using a spot in front of the ball on my target line) and my most recent scores have included just two three putts out of 27 holes thus far.

My jockey name: Breaker of Legs.

Actually had to euthanize a horse yesterday on the track due to a broken leg. I'd be troubled if I saw that in vivo.

Goose/Kent/City/anyone - How does SPCC/Pine Ridge/others run their season long match play events? Do they schedule specific days that everyone has to show up and play that round's matches or do you get X amount of weeks to get the match in for that round and it's up to you to schedule it.

The Byron is gone. TheCityBlade is in until further notice.

Is it the Odyssey Protype #2 Black? I'm playing the same flat stick. Great lines, very square. I actually prefer a bit firmer feel but have been putting well (for me) recently.

Got out in the rain today with JBang and a meatspacer. Very wet. The rough was gnarly. Thick, wet and just ate golf clubs for lunch. We played the three man game 9s which was close on the front where I edged out JBang 32, 27. Got both of them on the back as well. I played well considering the conditions. Shot what I recorded as an 43-41 for a very solid 84. We were playing pretty loose with lift/clean/place but fun to hit the ball a bit despite the weather. I've been able to keep the ball in play and have been playing the same ball since the start of CC - always a good sign for my game. Almost lost it on Hobbits #17 on Sunday but was found by City who was in the group behind.

Also, when does summer start?

Yeah, it's a protype black #2. Nice looking stick, and it's a little sweaty which I oddly like. The Indian is certainly to blame, not the arrow, but the Ketsch just really didn't work for me. I felt so uncomfortable with it. I'm trying to work on a little more of a shoulder controlled putting motion, and will likely try some metronome practice like DC has talked about.
