How many superfriends have dealt with shoulder issues? I know eagle has recently, and I seem to remember Domes getting a shoulder patched up once or twice.

Didn't catch if you have a definite injury that you can point to- do you work a desk job or job that's more physical? I had shoulder pain for years from a combination of working out like an idiot and on the rigors of my job. Was a fluffer-for ball gag porn. I'd look at the ergonomic in your life no matter your job type. You're at an age where impingement starts to become an issue if you've got imbalances in musculature, repetitive injuries, etc. I'm sure your orthopedist can or did cover this stuff with you. Good luck- sucks to cradle your arm at night when you sleep cause your shoulder is banged up.

I've updated my vote for post of the year...

the things i look forward to when playing NW:

- can be stretched longer than any course in the area that i am aware of. bring your big boy pants.

- typically very good conditions. the greens/fairways have actually been firm and fast... in march. it's a huge selling point as typically everything is waterlogged at that time of year.

- the locals. never know who you'll meet up with. played with a guy in sweatpants, no socks and what appeared to be a self-made shirt. wore what can only be described as a citygame hat. he was awesome. point being: there's a story waiting to happen.

- location. easy in, easy out.

shots i look forward to:

- par 3 4th tee ball

- approach on 6

- tee ball on 8

- 2nd shot on 9

- tee ball on 11

- approach on 14

- approach on 17

lots of these are based on being able to go for it in 2 on the par 5s (assuming a decent tee ball). not always the prudent play on many courses, due to excessive danger around the green.

sure, pace of play can be a nightmare (unless you tee off at the a55crack of dawn). sure, the rangers can induce eye-ball poppin rage. sure, the rough can be so gnarly that you can't advance it more than 50 yards without hurting yourself. sure, you can grow tired of it (as i currently am). overall tho... NW is a keeper.

still want blue mash for the RRC, but gotta defend NW.

edit: played there more than a few times early last year. introduced city to it. after the 2nd time through he says, "i still don't love the course." my reply: "it's not a course you love. it's a course you play. it's a course you moderately enjoy." pretty much sums it up from my POV.

All of this, thanks for saving me the time of writing all that.

I've *never* had a boring round at NW. Not even close to a little bit. Including the ranger that twice on the front nine moved the carts of the group in front of us. Never seen that before in my life.

I've also never spent more than...$40 or so to play there. Significantly less during the week.

99% of the rounds I've played there I would say that the course has been in B+ or above conditioning. They aerate their greens with the mini tines and they always heal up extremely well.

NW is one of those courses where you think its slow because you're playing with 3 other really fast WRXers - and you wait around talking on a bunch of shots - but then when the round is over you realize you played in 4-4.5 hours.

Its not my favorite course in the area but the cost/location/walkability make it all very replayable IMO.

Played a ton of rounds at NW growing up and in the late 70s and early 80s. There used to be huge clumps of crab grass and clover in the greens. #2 was always the worst.

Anyone have an urge to try a leather putter grip? (Grip Master). A pro shop is liquidating their display grips on eBay and you can get 3 in various colors for $20. 3 leather putter grips for $20... I bought one of the auctions...

I'll have an extra blue if interested. Bought an orange for a buddy who is a huge UT and oddly enough, leather, fan.

Do you offer any putter restoration services, DT? Got an OG Nike Method 001 as my backup that could use some love.

Also, on the subject of random grips, is anyone interested in an arm-lock putter grip? Brand new.

Tex, I was at the range a week or so ago and as I was leaving the Callaway rep showed up for a demo day. He had an Explorer and it was PACKED with staff bags! It was a wonder he had room to actually drive the vehicle. I can only imagine what your truck must look like when you are going to a demo day. Do you have to sit on a staff bag when you drive?

Oh Johhny...Having a truck is the big difference (huge ****), so they all fit in the back of it.

However, I lay some down in the back seat or lift it up to stack some.

First one I put them all inside but once I got the green light to place them nicely in the back..that's where they go.

I had a blast out at Hobbits with PQ, Domes, and Halcyan yesterday. Finally a warm, (relatively) dry, calm round of golf! The ball was finally flying, which tripped me up a bit early.

Team gimpy wimps ran into the buzzsaw, to the tune of a 6&4 whipping.

Domes brought the heat. His ballstriking is really looking good. He was putting himself in good position off the tee all day, and hit GIRs like a machine. I don't know if the stats show it since he hit more GIRs than usual, but his putting looked improved from the Capitol Cup for sure. I was really impressed with his game yesterday. He's probably not happy with the back 9 score, but he still posted a really nice round. It should be a top contender in this CCCP period for sure. I think we're going to see Domes drop down to the 6-7 range sooner than later for sure. Domes and I also made extra sure to check with each other to see who was away all day :).

PQ was more solid than he'd probably let on. He's close to putting things together and posting some good rounds. I think he just needs to get his tee game going, and he'll be scoring well. Too many tee shots (not just with driver) that put him in tough spots. His irons seem fine, and his putting and short game are always impressive. #demsofthandsdoe made several appearances. Something I'd be really interested to see him try tinkering with - soften up the arms quite a bit at address. They look like they're really forced and locked straight. Try hitting some shots where you feel like your arms are really just hanging soft at address, and as you take the club away.

Halcyan has apparently been TKO'd by some kind of nasty chest cold since (and maybe during) the Capitol Cup. He dusted the clubs off for the first time since that round yesterday, and had some rust with the tee shots. He hit a bunch of really nice iron shot approaches. He just couldn't shake the lefts off the tee early, but it seemed like he started getting it straightened out on the back 9. He's one of the most consistent guys I've played with, so he'll be good to go once he fully recovers from the chest cold.

I didn't put up a great round, but I felt much better about my game than the last handful of times I've been on the course. I was back to hitting more GIRs, and my tee game was good until I started getting a little gassed late in the round. I didn't feel super tired, but I was definitely making some lazy swings starting mid way through the back 9 with all the clubs. I ended up jailing myself off the tee on 13, 14, and 17. My touch wasn't very good around the greens, but I did make a great up and down on 18 to save par. My putting is still atrocious. I'm averaging more than 2 putts/GIR recently. I wasn't hitting good lines. I was leaving everything woefully short for the most part. I missed the hole on a straight 4-footer on 8, and on a straight 3-footer on 10. Hit an awful quit-stroke push from like 7 feet on 13 after a nice wedge. Putting is such a huge hole in my game right now. I told the guys yesterday my feelings about putting have gone from rage, to frustration, to sadness, to bordering on apathy. I think once I get to full blown apathy, it might actually get better. There's almost nowhere for it to go but up at this point.

Was over at Golf Care Center. Saw Domes, got my SW fixed. I was talking to Jack about weekend plans, and he is a pretty opinionated guy. He thought the front 9 at Worthington Manor was stupid. Mostly because of the greens on 2, 3, 8, 9 are too sloped for the speed. He also thought #9 should have the tees moved up and become a par4. He's the first guy I've talked to that has had such a negative opinion about the course, but it's hard to argue with his reasons.

add in denial and bargaining and you'll be almost all the way through the five stages of grief.

ever consider trying an arm-lock putter grip? i know someone who has one who will let it go for cheap.

it's a shame an opinionated someone -or two opinionated someones- who love the course weren't there to defend it against these erroneous slights.

Jack sounds like he needs a nice refreshing blast from the butthurt cannon. You're hitting at most a full wedge into the green on 2. Hit the right part of the green and you won't have a problem. Hit the wrong part, and you better hit two good putts if you want to make a par. I'll give him 3, since you're generally coming into that hole from further back, off an uneven lie. That green could stand to be less severe. 8 is massive, and the slope generally helps you. The big slope helps balls come back to front pins. The slope also helps balls feed to back left pins. Back right is the only location you really need to place the ball super precisely. 9 as a par 4 would be stupid. How are far up are you going to move those tees? Is everybody supposed to come into that green with mid or long irons from a downhill lie to a difficult green? Are you going to move it up so that everybody can drive it down to the super narrow flat spot at the end of the fairway?

Good recap from the Fabb.

-Fabb's putting is pretty bad right now like he said. Like he said about mine after the CC: He just has to practice his way out of it. The wheels definitely seem to be turning too much when he's standing over the ball. Whatever, he'll have a round where everything drops, he shoots 74, and then that will be the end of it. I think that happens before the end of June. He shot 80, and I honestly can't remember any specific great shot he hit. Just a regular under-the-radar 80. He did have the driver working really well.

-First time playing with Halcyan, and like was mentioned earlier, he's just a steady golfer. Rang one off the middle of the flagstick on the fly on #4 from 135 or so and it ran off the side of the green. Got up and down for par. Then a great pitch-in on #9 for another par save. He hits a draw, and that course is just not made for someone who hits a draw. His driving got better as the round went on, and he was playing some of his best golf at the end of the day.

-pquarta1 was hitting the center of the face all day when he pulled driver. Unfortunately club path was like "f you" to face angle, and he ended up in some different areas of the course from where one would normally be. Played #15 up #14 after clearing the trees from the black tees, and then hitting up to the #14 tee box for his second. Made par, nbd. Also SO close to an ace on #11. Ball hit two feet past the pin, and then spun back and somehow missed the cup. It was the closest non-ace I've ever seen. Sank the 4 footer for bird, nbd.

-I really wanted a sub 80 round yesterday after a 37 on the front. Hit 9 of the first 10 greens in reg, and putting was much better than two weeks ago. Just couldn't stop making bogeys from 11-17. Missed a few makeable ones, but can only remember one that I pulled off line. The rest were mis-reads. Definitely started hitting the wall on the back 9 fatigue-wise as well. Annoying, but encouraging. I'm ready to smash this weekend.

Guys, you don't go there. If I actually argued about this I'd be there all day. Domes can back me up on this.

I do agree with him on #9, though you can't turn it in to a par4. Needs a bit more chance to go for it instead of just chucking a 7 or 8 iron to the bottom of the hill. At the green, you can't miss it long, left, or right. If you hit the green and are on the wrong side it's nigh impossible to 2-putt across the ridge. If you are above the hole it's hard not to putt it off the green.

#3 could also be a bit less graded. The approach shot is tough enough to give that hole plenty of protection. I disagree on #2 for the same reason as you Fabb..it's a wedge shot. #8 is mixed. He didn't like how severe it was because it's a long-ish shot to begin with. 170 uphill from the blues, so it plays 180ish. That's a lot of club to be hitting in to a diabolical green. Thought if it was a flatter hole it'd be fine to have a green like that.

I don't know how PQ didn't get a hole-in-one on 11. His ball mark was directly behind the hole, and his ball was about 4 feet in front of the hole. I wouldn't be surprised if he hit the pin, or lipped out. It was a great shot. Domes must have gone right by the hole with his approach on 18 as well. Halcyan smacked the flag stick on 4. There were some goodies out there.

Domes was definitely surprised when he learned what I shot. I believe the word we settled on for the round was "unremarkable." It was totally unremarkable. No major "HOLY $HIT THAT WAS BAD" moments, or any particularly good shots. Just plodded along for the most part. That means I'm heading back in the right direction. Fairways, GIRs, and (hopefully) the occasional putt dropping.

We learned to never get a table outside if it's busy. The service was SO SLOOWWWWW. Eating in the bar is 1000x better. At least the food was on point as usual, and the waitress actually didn't F anything up when we made a laundry list of "put his X on my check" requests.

plenty of chances to go for that green. downhill, usually downwind. decent tee shot, and i'm going. once you've ingrained monte's driving techniques, you'll be going for it more too.

there's a reason why #3 is the #1 handicap. it's a hard hole. as for #8... as with so many holes at worthington, IT DEPENDS ON THE PIN PLACEMENT. that makes it interesting, on a day to day basis. can play as much as 3 clubs (or more if there's wind) difference.

check out WM's new "pin sheet" page. pretty cool.

FAbb, on putting woes, here's one thing I learned in the Monte clinic that I thought was really interesting but haven't heard anyone say before. You should have 0 hip turn in the putting stroke. Most people had a ton. I was working on it last night on the practice green and was hitting a ton of solid putts. No clue if that's an issue for you, but can't hurt to check it out.

yes! perfect! i always forget this. usually starts with me "peeking" then degenerates from there. thanks for the reminder.

sidenote: i don't think fabb is guilty of this. setup looks fine, it's the fearful stroke that's getting him. once he starts making putts again, this bad stretch goes away quick.
