City laughs.

I showed it to wife. I go, "he put goose's face on everyone."

She goes "except this guy".

Does Photoshop have a face swap tool these days or what?

that kind of question is like someone saying "I shot 68 today" and DaveChen goes "oh, was the course playing easy?"

Great time at Bull Run today with Puppet. Neither one us shot a round that was worth writing home about, and it was slow (my watch had us at 5:13) but great company as always. Fuller run down later.

Cliffs - up to 4 groups playing the same hole, 10 min waits to tee off, a handful of 3-frutts, 2-way misses (and I mean either 30 yards left or 20 yards right), but with some good shots sprinkled in.

How many superfriends have dealt with shoulder issues? I know eagle has recently, and I seem to remember Domes getting a shoulder patched up once or twice.

<raises hand> Separated both in high school and have never been the same. Tendonitis that comes and goes for months at a time. Probably a small tear in labrum (My ortho and MRI guy disagreed). Lots of NSAIDS (Diclofenac is current fave) and a handful of Cortizone shots. Sucks getting old.

Deeper dive on my round with Puppet at Bull Run..

He texted me on the way out to tell me the range was closed for mowing. No bueno. I was counting on the range to figure out how I was going to implement some of what Monte worked with me on. So I got out there and just putted and chipped for 45 minutes, and was sweating by Bs off. May have oversampled DTW last night with the wife out of town.

Front nine: Ppt won one up as I disintegrated on the last 3 holes after being 2 up through 6. Driver wasnt pretty, but I actually hit 5 fairways, which is a good 18 for me. Lost a ball on 4 with a pushed 3w off the tee. I probably could have found it, but didnt want to hold up the guys on the tee. Then I hit a couple stupid stupid putts on 7 and 8. Got too aggressive with both, resulting in 4 (from 65 feet) and 3 (from 30) putts respectively. Then on 9, I tried to get too cute from 200 yards and chunked a cut UDI into a dirt bunker 100 yds into a FW bunker (all dirt) and hit long from the bunker. Puppet had a bit of a two way miss going, with a few double crosses, but his short game was tight (won't mention one unmentionable).

Back nine: Puppet birdied 10 after a poor drive, but great 4 iron out of the rough. I birdied 12 with a good wedge from 85. Puppet continued to struggle wth a 2 way miss off the tee, but hit a couple great seconds on the par 5s, one a three wood after his best drive of the day, and one an unreal hybrid out of the rough on 18 that ran to the back of the green. I generally kept the ball in play, but didnt score after the birdie. Too many loose irons, which I will chalk up to trying to implement Monte's suggestions on the fly. I missed a six footer on 18 that would have sqaured the back nine. Instead, Ppt took all the monies.

Overall: Very slow round. Apparently there was a large outing of senior men that teed off early and it backed up the course all day. In front of us were a 4 some, backed by a 3some and a 2some and we played as a 2some (didnt feel the need to join up with the older asian women in front of us). We played in 5:13 and 4 or 5 times, there were 3 groups on the tee box. And we didnt see a marshall all day. On 11, I called the proshop and they said they would send a marshall out. Never saw one.

We'll get back at it tomorrow at Pleasant Valley, perhaps with a special guest.

As I think we all know, Puppet has the prettiest swing on the board. here are a couple.

the things i look forward to when playing NW:

- can be stretched longer than any course in the area that i am aware of. bring your big boy pants.

- typically very good conditions. the greens/fairways have actually been firm and fast... in march. it's a huge selling point as typically everything is waterlogged at that time of year.

- the locals. never know who you'll meet up with. played with a guy in sweatpants, no socks and what appeared to be a self-made shirt. wore what can only be described as a citygame hat. he was awesome. point being: there's a story waiting to happen.

- location. easy in, easy out.

shots i look forward to:

- par 3 4th tee ball

- approach on 6

- tee ball on 8

- 2nd shot on 9

- tee ball on 11

- approach on 14

- approach on 17

lots of these are based on being able to go for it in 2 on the par 5s (assuming a decent tee ball). not always the prudent play on many courses, due to excessive danger around the green.

sure, pace of play can be a nightmare (unless you tee off at the a55crack of dawn). sure, the rangers can induce eye-ball poppin rage. sure, the rough can be so gnarly that you can't advance it more than 50 yards without hurting yourself. sure, you can grow tired of it (as i currently am). overall tho... NW is a keeper.

still want blue mash for the RRC, but gotta defend NW.

edit: played there more than a few times early last year. introduced city to it. after the 2nd time through he says, "i still don't love the course." my reply: "it's not a course you love. it's a course you play. it's a course you moderately enjoy." pretty much sums it up from my POV.

All of this, thanks for saving me the time of writing all that.

I've *never* had a boring round at NW. Not even close to a little bit. Including the ranger that twice on the front nine moved the carts of the group in front of us. Never seen that before in my life.

I've also never spent more than...$40 or so to play there. Significantly less during the week.

99% of the rounds I've played there I would say that the course has been in B+ or above conditioning. They aerate their greens with the mini tines and they always heal up extremely well.

NW is one of those courses where you think its slow because you're playing with 3 other really fast WRXers - and you wait around talking on a bunch of shots - but then when the round is over you realize you played in 4-4.5 hours.

Its not my favorite course in the area but the cost/location/walkability make it all very replayable IMO.

Went out on the range. 2nd session since the clinic, and definitely getting better. Starting to feel when my wrist set isn't right, which means I'm doing it right more often. Even though I'm fixing my faults (back swing), some of the extra compensations (down swing) from the old swing are still there. Before I had to stand up out of it to avoid hitting it mega-fat. Now I'm still standing up out of it when I probably don't need to, and hitting it a bit thin. But playable thin.

On the short game, reducing (chips) and eliminating (putts) hip turn seems to be paying off a lot. I was hitting putts really solid and on good lines. We'll see if that pays off on the course Saturday.

Really pumped to get out there and put it in to play. Which means I'll probably be turrible :).
