Gotta say it with sorrow in my heart...... We American golfers suck, can anyone close a freakin match out..... Geez, no wonder we loose the RC every time!

I think part of the problem is that players like Furyk treat it like a strokeplay event and go 'if I par my way in, I should win'. Matchplay golf usually awards attacking play. When you're playing against the top players in the world, there's always a good chance that they'll turn on the screws. Conservative play like that might work well on paper but if you're playing a player the calibre of Rory McIlroy, sometimes you have to go a little bit further.
What part of 6 birdies escapes you? Silly remark after the match Furyk just played.
Yeah Jim played a good match, no doubt about it. Just thought at 17, he could have killed it off by trying to go for the flag more. He must have known that McIlroy would rally at him. I know that's easy to say in hindsight and he played by the book. The book says hit middle of greens when you're in the lead. But as we often see in Ryder Cups, the top players can often go against the book and turn on the screws.

It's more of a general point rather than for this specific match and possibly a reason why Jim Furyk doesn't do that well at Ryder Cups. He's usually the one beaten by the great shot rather than the other way round.

Your remark remains a monument to stupidity. The 17th played to ~195 yards, that is not a wedge. You're one up, the play is to give yourself a good putt. And so he did, pin high about 30 feet.

Anybody else smelling something regarding Paul Casey's overnight "illness"?

IMO, good chance that was a gamesman play on Casey's part. What constitutes "up all night" vomiting?

The guy played good, just flubbed the same shot many have out of that "proper" rough at Harding.

Valhalla, I am coming!

Rory clearly looking to make a statement to the people claiming Spieth is top dog.
The world's #1 turns 26 tomorrow. This would be his 10th PGA TOUR victory, and 17th worldwide.
If he finishes this off he will be the current champion of exactly half the majors and WGCs (4/8)

Rory's playing five or six times in the next month in a bit so it would be a great start to that run. I'd be surprised if he didn't win a few times in that run.

Rory really hasn't had his best all year, yet he's looking at his 2nd international victory. He seems to be slowly grooving into a form which will deliver some big titles this summer.

I think the distraction of the court case and the pressure of the grand slam at Augusta are well behind him now.

Chambers Bay, St Andrews and Whistling Straits all potentially set up really well for Mcilroy.

10 wins at age 26. That has to be somewhere close to the top of the list at that age, no? Anyone know? I would assume tiger at age 26 had the most, not sure beyond that. Jack??

I remember Phil winning his 10th TOUR title at Bay Hill in March of 1997, just three months shy of his 27th birthday. At the time Johnny Miller commented that it was the earliest to 10 since Jack Nicklaus.

Jack won his 10th TOUR title a few months after turning 24. Tiger would win his 10th at 23.5.

They're all big ones too (if he finishes it off, feel we're jumping ahead on this one a little bit). 4 majors, 2 WGCs, 2 play-offs, Honda Classic and Wells Fargo.

No weaker field events like the John Deere, Shriners Hospital or Humana Challenge or any of those. They were all quality fields. Wells Fargo, Mickelson was second. Honda Classic, Woods was second.
