Chunky topline for the loss...

:(
Either that, of the head is incredibly compact, which I doubt.
The fact that there is enough space on the topline itself where they would need to kill the glare was never a good sign. Why in the freaking world would they do something like this to a blade design?? Geez, Mizuno...

looks like a bigger top line than the MP 64 :(

who knows though, they will hopefully look great in person. (though you might have a lot of people sticking with the mp4)

I think the blade size is comparable to the Titleist 714 MB: a design that is noticeably more squat and compact than my MP-4s. I own both sets (!) and dare I say that the Titleists feel softer than the MP-4s, probably due to the sheer amount of metal that is present throughout the club head. Nevertheless, the MP-4s are just so good looking in the bag that I just swap sets due to daily preference.

Life is good! Save for retirement, pay your bills, then buy what you like and play what you like!

Maybe what they have done is made an attempt to appeal to a wider audience with these. I understand the concern from some people about the top line, but what people have to understand is that blade users account for a tiny proportion of the market. And Mizuno an even smaller proportion of those users. Yet there are probably more people that want to play blades than people who actually play them. By making the top line that little bit thicker, maybe they feel as though they can appeal to that 'wannabe' market. If that means losing some of the traditional blade players, then so be it, because they only account for a tiny proportion of the market anyway. Lose 1%, gain 3%, maybe the theory behind these. But it's hard to tell definitively, if that top line is 'chunky' until we all see them in person.

I played the MP4 for a while. They were a great iron but they do look intimidating from address to me and I played MP14 and Cleveland TA1 for close to a decade. These look much more inviting and I like the shape. Combo set would be sweet with the 25.

Are you sure those aren't the mp25's?

I am pretty sure that is the MP25 topline pic.

If that is the MP5, then I don't know what to say.

The chrome finish is the giveaway. The MP25's aren't chrome, so those are definitely the MP5's, but in the pic above, the topline looks just fine. Just shows how pics can be deceiving eh?

You shouldn't have to kill the glare on the topline of a true blade. There shouldn't be enough space up there to do it.

That settles it - I think I'm all in.

Perhaps I can wait until the Yoro options...I'd better start padding my Paypal balance now in advance. Anyone know if the Modus 120s can be ordered through Mizuno (the Mizuno website doesn't list as a custom option)? I know that you can through TourSpec.

It's hard to tell with one pic eh?

MP5 is chrome finish and 25 satin as stated above - I posted the 25 topline pics in the 25 thread. Getting these pics direct from the Mizuno Open blog on the Miz Forum - there's more pics and mp 4 / mp 5 comparisons there

Big Pete...I suspect the top image is of a short iron...maybe a PW or similar...where the lower pic is more of a longer iron, such as a 5.
I simply suspect this as to me it seems obvious that they are flighting the heads...more mass up top in shorter irons to keep ball lower, less mass up top and more lower to provide higher trajectory in longer.

Makes sense to me at first blush/look anyway.

Here is an actual topline pic from an MP5...
The picture in the listing looked odd to me. From the lighting it was hard to judge. The heel part of the topline looks super thin and the toe section looks just as thick as the previous pictures.

Judging by another vid on the Mizuno Facebook page (Vosh and Chris Wood) these look to be marketed as a "forgiving blade" kinda like the mp32 idea (almost an mp64 replacement?) So may have a touch bigger profile than the full on mp4. They're calling it a channelback, as opposed to a muscle back. Looks like it might sit alongside the mp4 in the range rather than replace it

Iron like no other. except Callaway Razr or hogan Channels, the new hogans, or even their MP 32s The must think people have short memories haha. I liked both of those so these may be awesome.

I think so, too. Almost a 64 "replacement". Looks like the H5 would blend in nicely for a combo set.
Interesting thought. Maybe a blend between the 64/4. I have H5's in 3-7 (play 3-4-5).

Maybe I can go MP5 in 6-P or 8-P. I will be going to see these at the shop as soon as they arrive.
