Hogan staffers?

Who were the Hogan staffers back in the day? I know they had Tom Kite and Mark Brooks and attempted to get Watson.

An original Hogan Tour staff player - Jack Montgomery - a TCU grad and 10 year tour veteran.

He was the Head Pro at Sugar Creek CC near Houston for about 30 years before building Old Orchard GC and Lonwood GC in the Houston area with a group of friends.

Also - One of the founding members/supporters of the Houston Golf Association Junior golf program.

I have some of his clubs.

Langer still carries his Hogan 4 iron with OEM shaft. It's riddled to hell with lead tape and dings but it's still in the bag.

Pretty sure he carries the Hogan Apex 3 & 4 irons in raw finish (both covered in lead tape), and the chromed Apex 5 iron.

Gary Player agreed a deal to use Hogan clubs back in his heyday, only to back out at the last minute to sign with Dunlop for more money. This really stung Hogan, prompting him to famously hang up on Player when he called for some golf advice. "Go ask Mr. Dunlop" was his response.

You may be right, but that's not the way I heard it.

I thought Player never had a Hogan deal or any negotiations about one. When he wanted to talk to Ben Hogan about something, Ben asked if Player used Hogan's clubs. Whomever the intermediary was said no, Player played Dunlop clubs. That's when Hogan told him to tell Player to ask Mr. Dunlop. I never heard about Hogan saying anything direct to Player.

You might be right, that was the story I read although I don't remember where.

Heard a similar story about Faldo, who visited Hogan in the early 90s. Hogan was going to go and watch Faldo hit some shots on the range after they had chatted however declined after asking which brand of clubs he played, choosing instead to sit and finish his glass of wine.

Yes Langer still plays some old Hogan 3 and 4 irons caked in lead tape , he said he doesnt even know how old the clubs are .

Related to topic but some famous wins with Hogan irons:

Leonard won The Open with Apex Channel Backs.
Furyk won the US Open with Apex Plus.

When Bettinardi was making putters for Hogan, quite a few were seen on tour.
