I agree that we need Tiger back, but I disagree with Gary on a few things. One, I don't think anyone benefits from the rigid categorization of color with people. Tiger has even said he is just a person. Tiger is more Asian than he is black, so to align Tiger with literal Africans who have dark black skin is a stretch. He looks more like a tanned Caucasian golfer than he does a native African.

At some point, all of this color stuff has to stop. We're all just humans, whether gay, brown, white, black, or however we choose to identify. Our country made huge strides this past month by allowing gay folks equal rights, we're moving forward. All of this white v. black stuff is just eroding progress we've made over the last 50 years in civil rights.
You must have missed the original Tiger Woods ad campaign that made sure he was not marketed as just some guy, but a guy where clubs had refused to let him play their course due to the color of his skin.
I didn't miss it, but I know that was two decades ago. I'd say Tiger has changed since then. I'd like to say we as people have reached beyond color in that period, but it is more than clear that we haven't with the news these days.
Sad to say but we totally have not. And I don't think we'll ever get to that place. I tread lightly here when it comes to race but we all know TW no longers sees himself as black at all. It's funny that Gary Player still does, but TW made up his own Caublanasian heritage. Im still not sure where the Caucasian in Caublanasian comes from. And it's always been interesting to me that he put that first.
His father had Caucasian blood and his mother has Dutch blood. His dad also had Native American blood. Tiger really is a multi-racial dude no matter how you look at it, so I don't blame him for resenting the fact people want to just call him a black guy.

The good news is the USGA announced the Country Club and LA Country Club as future hosts.

Those two courses just SCREAM inclusion and diversity
Inclusion could not be farther from the truth for Boston and Los Angeles, hypersegregation would be a better term to describe the layout of these cities.

Two years ago at the Bob Hope, Player was on the range hitting balls and sharing his time with lucky corporate types. I was close enough to hear a lot of what he was saying, and he got on the topic of Tiger Wiods. Player said that Tiger was the most talented golfer to ever play the game.

To paraphrase, he said Tiger would hit two fairways and win by 10 shots. He was unbelievable.

Player didn't call him the greatest golfer of all time. I felt like Player believed he's not. But he was more talented than Jack. It begs the question that ultimately will be the defining question of his career: Did Tiger underachieve? It's asked of Chamberlain, O'Neal, Manning, James, and all the great ones that didn't win as many championships as we the public think they should have won. But with Woods it's different for two reasons. One, he made his goal of 19+ majors public; and two, he derailed his career with bad excersise, and bad off the course choices.

I can't disagree with too much of what Player said.. Tiger has been great for Golf and he has inspired a lot of people to take up the game, who otherwise wouldn't have done so. You have to wonder what any of the swing guru's really know that a top tour player doesn't know themselves. There's not that many players that have found the magic answer from their instructor. To quote Player from another article where he discussed Tiger: "why would you take advice from anybody who couldn't break 80"? It's a good question.

He is continuing to perpetuate the idea of color differences. At some point we're going to need to say we're all equal and we all have opportunity. He is giving credence to the idea that there is an actual divide among people based upon the color of their skin.

You obviously haven't been paying attention. In the US there is still a divide in opportunity, not what it was 50 years ago but it's still there.

Also, Gary was talking about other countries, not the US, where there is still an even greater disparity.
There is a divide. But has very little to do with race. More about the lack of a middle class and the prevalence of drugs and single parent homes. Give a kid a stable home 2 parents who care and he will likely succeed. Not 100% but a far sight more often than the single parent ( often times 0 parent) drug infested homes today kids grow up in. That's the true problem. Not racial equality.

I somewhat agree with you. However, what other sport can you think off where most of the coaches didn't play at the highest level. That was my point.
Many baseball managers and football head coaches did not play at highest level. Look it up.

But if you have this upbringing you are label as privileged, and some people are shamed because of this.

"Gay folks" already had equal rights. They had the same right as everyone else: to marry someone of the opposite sex. Now, a "new right" isx being instituted: to marry someone of the same sex.

Sorry but I find this factual error, used by many, to be frustrating. And, if I were black I would find the use of the phrase insulting in that context, since black people were denied the "exact" same rights, such as the right to vote. They never asked to change or expand rights, they just wanted the same rights white people were receiving.

Oh, and, there's no such thing as "the right to marry who you love". At least not yet, perhaps pedophile's will start demanding their "equal" right some day.

Edit: completely agree with you about the race issue
