TESTING: Official Ben Hogan FT. WORTH 15 Irons Member Review Thread

So I went online and did the fitting thing and it doesn't work..... You put I that you are fit to irons and then if they are std loft or weak or strong and it doesn't change the results on your current irons just changes the set output they give you. Also then says my gaps are not consistent because this feature doesn't work. But my biggest issue with the fitting system is that it says I have 6 clubs from 165 and in and I would benefit from having 7. So it spits out a set for me and it wants me to carry 15 clubs in my bag..... Ive heard of company's with non confirming balls, grooves and COR tested driver to help people improve but 15 clubs is a new one to me.

Hope they get their fitting system working properly.

To be honest here mate your scoring irons should be 7iron and below statisticlly :)

Drive it well ! , Fair ways well :)

Yesterday I received a 51 degree TK15 wedge off ebay and have only hit it in the backyard. Can't wait to take it to the range tomorrow. I'm a "picker" or sweeper/slider -- I rarely take a divot. What I noticed from about a dozen partial shots yesterday, 40 yards max, almost every shot produced a tiny but noticeable divot. I've read about Scor, now Hogan v sole and look forward to some full swings. As many others have described, the feel is terrific and the wedge is a beaut. My very first set of real clubs was a 60s or 70s model of Apex blades passed down in my family when I was about 13. I still have them today, so the Hogan brand has very nostalgic appeal. With the old school look and modern technology enhancements I'm intrigued about the Ft. Worth 15 irons as well.

I think these clubs are missing one option, you should be able to request a number engraved into the sole of each club. That would be along with the loft spec.

:):)

I guess any engraving shop could do that...or even some paint that would wash off is another option. I like the idea, but picture myself scratching my head looking at a bag full of double digit numbers trying to pull a club...
it's not that bad....you get used to it very quickly....and alot of company's have done this in past....

People also usually assemble their clubs a certain way in their bags and that makes it even easier....

Seriously maybe 5 rounds at most....pick a middle iron and work your way down or up

Wedges don't have numbers and no one has issues with that....

I actually like it better than numbers and I don't even own a set....

Think the whole point is to educate people on lofts rather than numbers...hitting a certain loft is easier than hitting a bunch of 7 irons from different companys....and it's what matters most too....really dialing in your ydgs

My buddy just picked up a set of titleist DCI'S from God knows when and they have loft stamped on sole

The people that are scared about loft instead of the number are ones who need the loft on their club the most....these are the guys that don't really know what loft their irons are and aren't as keen on hitting certain ydgs with each club...heck, most people's clubs aren't even to spec anyway so they have no idea how far they hit it....being educated and really dialing in your equipment is crucial for hitting shots close to pins consistently....and this is one step in that direction....
In todays market, lofts on clubs with the same number can vary as much as 6 degrees particularly in the 6 and 7 iron range making the loft a much more meaningful number.

Plus if you really want to get into your opponents head, you can always pull out your "35 degree Pitching Wedge".

Got to use them in wet condition for the first time. They performed very well. Seemed to get through the grass even better.

Picked up a set of heads on eBay relatively inexpensively. Shafted them w DGS400. Hit some balls and played one round so far. Prior gamers were 83 Hogan Personals and 99 Hogan Apex with Apex 4 shafts (Personals far stiffer than Apex). Tried a set of Nike VR Pro Combos with DGS400 but couldn't adapt to longer club length (ever think to shorten them?) and didn't especially like long iron pockets. Certainly more forgiving than current gamers especially in the long irons. Short irons are like darts so looking forward to dialing distances. More difficult to work the ball for me (which when I ain't in the rough off the tee might be a good thing). Wedges are pleasantly versatile (played a Solus 56 and Scratch EBN 59) but my Ft Worth 55 ain't a Solus or Hogan Sure Out from the sand yet. Look good at address but the ball is a bit 'clickier' off the face than the old musclebacks. I'll keep them in the bag through 'silly season' to see how they perform.

I finally have had the opportunity to visit a PGS SS while in Atlanta last week. These irons are even better looking in person. Aside from the poor service I experienced while at the SS, I was allowed to hit the iron as long as I wanted. They only had a 41* fitted with the KBS V Tour (110) - which is my current shaft and what the "fitting" in the Hogan website. All I can say is that I will have a set of these irons before next year.

I found them to be clean off of the turf, incredible at address and downright sexy. I was hitting the 41 * 20 yards further (track man) than I normally do with my current 9 iron. Mis-hits didn't not feel disasterous. Before I pull the trigger I want to hit them again and preferably out doors. It seem to me that I was getting much more height (again on video) than I normally do.

I can't really recommend or suggest based in my very small sample size, but I know I personally like what I have seen and felt so far. Hopefully I will be able to add more at a later date.

Played with them last night. I'm more impressed with these each time I use them. I've been allowing pretty much anyone who wants to try them give them a swing and they seem to be equally impressed. Only problem is that the season is ending here in MN......

Skipped to the end . Are the irons in the 50-60 more like wedges or irons ? So gap wedge or 10 iron so to speak . I have a feeling if play better with 10-12 irons then wedges the way manfsctureres make them today
Honestly, I feel they play much differently compared to the irons. Play like wedges.

Life's been busy lately and haven't had much time to play, but I finally got a break this weekend and visited a friend in West Virginia. He works for the WV golf association, and he got us on Old White (the whole place is something special). So I finally got to play the Hogans on something besides Bermuda and it was awesome. Didn't play as well as I would have liked but I hit the Hogans pretty well and we had a great time. I wish I could play on Bent fairways every time.

I feel like "Old White" could be the nickname of any private club.

Is everyone still enjoying these irons? I'm interested in getting a demo set or purchasing a set.
I know I still am. The season is about to come to a close here in MN so they are about the have a few months off. I'm for sure going to be using them next summer. I'll check the lies and lofts in March and throw on some new grips, it will be just like winning them again.
Absolutely. As I've said before, the wedges aren't a fit for my game. I need a high-bounce option. Other than that, I have no plans to replace this set. Right now I'm playing 25* to 49* in the Hogans with 52* and 56* in Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 CBs.

If Hogan comes out with a high-bounce option wedge in the 56*, I'll be first in line for those.

We should get a round in somewhere between Greensboro and Chapel Hill (Maybe Burlington)! Would love to see the irons in person.

Forgive me if I missed it in the thread but can anyone comment on the playability of the wedges? Specifically the high lifted ones 56/60. I'm thinking of grabbing some but want to know how the grind is when it comes to opening the face and playing out of bunkers/lobs/etc.

I typically play a C grind.
As far as playability goes, the wedges are great. No problem with opening the face. They just don't fit my game as I need high bounce options. I found that the wedges wanted to dig on me in the bunkers and I really struggled. The grinds on the 25* to 49* were great everywhere else.

I tried the 3-club demo set earlier this summer. The look is a little different from the '03 Apex irons I had been playing for 10 years in that the low toe at the sole is more rounded. I liked the turf interaction of the 29* more than with the 41* or 53*. Felt they were a half club shorter than the Apexes. The 53* was fine for the bunkers on my most frequently played course (where I am employed) but didn't seem to spin as much as the Cleveland PF 54 that I use from any condition.

To me, maybe OK. Not thrilled enough to buy a set based upon the demo clubs. I ended up getting a set of MP-15s two months ago and am slowly getting used to them (don't feel I can move the ball on command as well as with the Apexes).

28, 33, 38, 43, 48, 53, 58º

$168 each plus shipping.

Most beautiful irons, by far, that I've ever owned.

But I'm back to my DCI 981s. Or my even older Wilson 1200GEs.

At 69, I can no longer play as well as the Hogans can.

Bump

For anyone still interested in demos, I found out that they're still available by calling Ben Hogan Golf ... just pay for the cost of to/from shipping to get a 2-week trial for 2 or 4 clubs.

As a 9-10 HDCP currently playing AP1s (710), I was somewhat apprehensive about my ability to hit consistently good shots with the FW-15s. Just finished my demo (29*, 41*, 53*, 61*, KBS Tour 90 R), and I have to say that these are some awesome sticks! Really feel like it was straightforward to strike the ball solidly, despite the fact that the lie angles were not optimum for me. Much easier for me to hit well as compared with 716 AP2 and MP-25, but YMMV.

Just placed my order (Discount Dan's) yesterday; quoted 2-week turnaround, hope it turns out to be shorter!
