Anytime, anyone gets new blades of any kind it can honestly take 6-12 rounds to get in tune with the set .......... Mine should be here next week.
Let us know if it takes 6-12 rounds with these. In all honesty these things just feel natural from the start.
takes longer imo....unless the set is identical in sole and bounce as previous.....it can take months, which is why alot of better players rarely switch..

Hi. First post for me, but I have been reading the site for years now.

I have been playing the Ben Hogan Ft. Worth irons and TK wedges for about 2 months now. In a few words, they're fantastic--looks, feel, enough forgiveness...
I have loved Hogan clubs since I was about 7 years-old and I really could not resist these.

I am 37 with an 8 handicap that is trending downward. My previous set of irons were 2013 Ping Ansers

Anyway, what I wanted to share with you WRXers was the results of me getting the lofts on Hogans checked. I brought them in to my local shop where they do really great clubfitting work.

Here are the results: stated loft on club (Actual Loft)

28 (28)
32 (32)
36 (35.5)
40 (39)
44 (43)
48 (49)
53 (53)
58 (57.5)
62 (62.5)

Has anyone who was selected for testing let anyone else use them? I've let quite a few strangers hit them on the range, the guy next to me the other day freaked out when her saw them in the bag. I mean, I didn't pay a dime for them so why not spread the joy around.

Everyone has been impressed.

I would like to know a little more info about the grooves in these irons and wedges, mine spin like a mutha, and don't chew the golf ball at all. What's up with that?
I agree about the milling and grooves. I get no chew on the ball, but they spin the ball like crazy. I was on a par 5 today and had 195 left to the hole. Hit a pure 5-iron and the ball was sitting infront of the ball mark. I have no idea how I spun a 5-iron that much. They should be allowed to have the titleist "drop and stop" tag line, because these spin sooooooo much.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think most on this thread will tell you though, that the hogans won't take that long. Not sure what it is. Maybe they just fit me better but it took one time out and I was good to go. Not like with my PINGS, Titleists or callaways which like you said took some time to get used to.

Got to use them last night. Played terrible, but the irons still feel great. Guys I know in the proshop were all googley eyed looking at them, and one super old guy was really confused by the lofts being on them. Pretty funny.

I hope you are being facetious as those specs are are pretty dead on. The variances of at most one degree can be explained by a set up error, different machine/operator, etc.

Further more I bet most people (except for those on WRX) would never be able to tell the difference if they never had the lofts checked. Regardless of how good you think you are, you're not. If you were you would be playing on tour and to be honest most of those guys probably can't tell a difference. The guys building the clubs and fitting them can and that's who takes care of the lofts etc.

Played 9 today and shot 37. Chipping and putting wasn't working for me today, but the Hogans performed amazingly. I didn't expect anything different. I hit two of my drives in the rough, and I'm amazed every time of how they perform out of it, and the rough at my course is pretty long. I've never loved hitting an iron this much.

How are you all feeling about the 'non-standard' club length changes from iron to iron?

Seems there are 3/4" changes in the long irons...
The non standard changes are a little different from what im used to, but nothing overly strange. the 23 is the same length as my current 3 iron and the 27 is the same as my 4. the 31 is really the only outlier, it's pretty much my 5.5 iron. from there everything matchers from 7 to wedges.

I like the idea of it. It does seem to gap out the long irons a bit more (better). It's a very simple procedure if you want to cut them down to more traditional lengths are well.

I think a really cool bag setup would be to do 5 degree gaps from 20 to 60, then you would have basically a full set of irons from 3 iron to lob, but with one fewer club, might have to do some math to figure out what length you want the shafts, but anyway, you then have room for one more club on the long end of the bag. So you could have a driver that's like 47 inches or something for just hitting bombs that don't have to be remotely straight, and could also carry a mini driver or something of that nature for when you need to hit the fairway.

throw in a putter, 4 wood, and a long hybrid and that's 14 clubs. Might be cool.

Can I tell the difference? Probably not, but one thing that attracted me to the Hogan's was the ability to really specify your lofts...

Another round in the books, was OKAY 38-44...really just had a couple of bad holes on the back nine that blew up on me...direction issues, not distance or striking, the misses were all pin high
or very close too it...so very happy with the strikes, but did hit a couple of pulls that cost me. We played around 1pm and made the turn in 106* heat, so I will do with that as the reason.
Hit a lot of good shots with the Hogans today too. Again, strikes were on, but the direction was off due to me. Have a four man scramble next weekend and we are defending..Hogans will be in the bag
since they are performing well...now I just need to work on my alignment and lag a touch!!

Showed them to the pro at the course today. A guy I know very well, I don't just flaunt them around.

He asked, "who refinished them? They look incredible."

Had a chance to hit these today at the PGASS in Schaumburg and was blown away with how good the irons are. Really a beautiful looking club and the feeling is unlike anything else on the market. Hard to describe other than incredibly solid and a very, very sweet sound.

Yep; hit the 23/26/28/32/33/37 (just kept grabbing different ones) on the monitor. Really liked the ball flight of the low/mid 20* irons; very penetrating ball flight and you could tell the launch was lower than what I'm even used to with the MP4s.

Do you guys think Hogan will ever reduce the prices on their wedges? 450.00 for 3 wedges is kinda ridiculous based on the wear and tear for these clubs. No issues w the 150 for the other clubs but those prices for a wedge is silly. I'll stick w Cleveland's or Vokeys you can get for 65.00 a stick pretty easily as I go through wedges bout as frequent as grips.
Curious if others share these thoughts.
25-46 irons look awesome. Thanks for all the reviews. Love to hit these one day.

First, for someone who reads more about equipment than I post about it, I appreciate everyone taking time to share their thoughts about the Hogans.

Now, I am not sure how to say this, but here goes.

I get that everyone is excited to get selected to receive a shiny new set of expensive irons. I'd be excited too! It may be too early and everyone is experiencing the new club magic, but is there any honest critique of these?

I could ask the question differently. Have these clubs unseated the set you had been playing? If so, why? More importantly, if not, specifically why not?

Would you trust the Hogan irons in your bag coming down the stretch when $20 is at stake and you only have $10 in your pocket? If not, why not?

I like the enthusiasm, but what's really helpful for others on the board are more frank, honest, and forthright reviews like you see in Tai's WITB for example. For the record, I realize this is not an easy ask.

Another way to see the real story is to come back to this in the spring of 2016 and see who still has the Hogans in the bag.

That's a good question. Honestly, I think our reviews might be a little biased as we are all excited to get new clubs. Who wouldn't be? As far as them unseating my current irons, I guess time will tell. My Cleveland 588s have been awesome, I've had them for 4 seasons, which is 3 seasons longer than any other set I've owned in the last 10 years of so. I will still be using the Hogan irons next season, guarantee. I like most people on here have a "few" extra clubs around the house and rotate them around a lot. Some stuff I hoard, some I deep 6. These I will at the very least be hoarding. And I very much intend to at least finish the season out with them.

I know that hogan will have som new equipment next season and I need to at least see what that is, maybe I can add a driving iron to go with the irons, maybe a hybrid. Who knows?

To be honest I think you are assuming more about whats going on then what we are saying. Everything I have said is an honest review. Was I excited to win sure, but if these clubs didn't perform the way they should I wouldn't be so positive.

To answer some of your questions....

Have these clubs unseated the set you had been playing? If so, why?
Yes, the Hogans have unseated my previous set of Ping i25's. I liked the i25's however the flight was too high. I didn't realize this until playing the Hogans. Also, the feel with the Hogans is amazing. I used to play Mizuno MX300's and also the Callaway 13 X Forged. Those two irons were great feeling and had that buttery smooth feel. The Hogans on the other hand have a "Thwack" feel and sound that I have never felt before but I can tell you that I like it better than any of the other feelings I get from other irons.

Performance wise I am getting better yardages throughout the set then I did with the i25's. Is that do to the gapping? Probably. Either way the flight (could be the tour V shafts as well) is better to my eye with the the Hogans. So in conclusion, Better yardages throughout the set, better flight, better desperation, best feel out of a few set of irons and the look is fantastic. If I didn't receive these for free would I pay for them? Based on the price I can honestly say I probably wouldn't, my three kids, wife and father whom lives with us is more important so I would probably find a iron in the same category for a bit cheaper. I think that the price is the ONLY downfall of these irons.

Yes, I would trust the Hogans I however would not trust myself I have horrible nerves.

Hopefully I have answered the questions up to your par............... :swoon:

First, for someone who reads more about equipment than I post about it, I appreciate everyone taking time to share their thoughts about the Hogans.

Now, I am not sure how to say this, but here goes.
I think that for the moment, the Hogans have replaced the Covert Forged 2.0s that have been in my bag. I think that these suited me more because of the overall yardage gapping (especially in the short clubs) and turf interaction than anything else. The looks don't hurt either. As I've said before, I can't tell a "feel" difference between forged and non-forged.

With that being said, I was able to get out for another round yesterday and had an absolutely dreadful day in all aspects and shot one of the highest rounds that I can remember (89). I couldn't wait to get off the golf course and put the clubs away for the week.

In the previous rounds I had with the Hogas, I was swinging well. Didn't have that many mis-hits, but the ones that I did have were consistent misses (high on the face). Yesterday, I had misses that were all over the place. Nothing consistent whatsoever. I felt that yesterday that the Hogans were more penalizing than my Covert Forged 2.0s would have been given similar swings.

I'm sure many of us have watched the Rick Shiels review on the Hogans and I really agree with his thoughts on the range of handicaps that should gravitate towards these clubs. I certainly don't feel that a higher handicap would benefit from using these clubs on a day when their swings aren't consistent.

I feel more comfortable using the 7 (33*) through LW (57*) in the current make-up, but higher than that is a little intimidating for me. I would love to see a forged cavity back offering in 21* through 28*.
