Stenson is the #1 player in the world. Sorry but you cant be #1 if you're afraid of a mosquito. Seems like all the other Olympians showed up except for the golfers. These guys who no showed made golf again look like an elitist sport played by a bunch of non athletic country club wussies. Good job Speith, DJ, Day, etc....

Then theres Rory who couldnt be bothered to win a medal for Ireland in its national sport. List of countries ahead of Ireland in medal count Ukraine, Kosovo, Iran, Fiji, Vietnam, Ethiopia, DPRK, etc.....

I sort of agree inasmuch as if a player truly has medical/family concerns regarding Zika, I can respect that. However, now that Zika has been documented in Florida, if those same players show up for a paying event such as the Players Championship, Honda Classic, Bay Hill, etc... those players become, imho, hypocrites.

Long time lurker, but my first post ever! I just did some searching, and it appears that the only US broadcast of Olympic golf is on TGC (other than streaming). How's that going to reach a new audience and "grow the game", at least in the U.S.? I'm a huge golf fan, but to save $15 a month, I just cancelled TGC. I realized that every other channel that I watched in the extra sports tier could be streamed for free on my Roku.
keep posting. Develop a thick skin though. These WRXers can be meanies!

Plenty of really good guys here. Also some keyboard tough guys. Take the good with the few bads and this is the best golf forum online.

Could only get through 20 seconds of TGC coverage this AM before flipping back to PL soccer. Seriously, stop trying to convince us that this is the most important/meaningful event in the history of golf. It's not. You know it. We know it. Stop insulting our intelligence.

:swoon:

I think the course looks cool and the turf looks great.

Field is ok and I actually think it is interesting to see some random players( seems very in the Olympic spirit)

Crowds seem pretty good today

i know it's trendy to rip on Olympic golf but I'm loving it

It's only "trendy" if you make it so. Crowd participation is high. The first 2 day's of the competition are work days for South Americans. Look for larger crowds tomorrow.

Someone may have already answered this, but did at least one country not bother providing golf bags for their athletes? I saw at least one bag that looked like a Callaway bag with tape over the sponsor. Possibly Mattesaro of Italy.

could be defecting.

Stensons swing is that stable the ball has no option but to squirt straight. Balance is perfect even with the power move. It's crazy good.

The reality is thus...

This is Brazil. It's not exactly 'Golf Central'.

It doesn't matter whooooo the Hell is watching. Could be 1x Man and his Dog.

Err, it's the Olympics. Born before golf.

Every player competing is competing for the Gold.

And i really, really like the weeds in the sand.

Tune in and enjoy, you miserable toerags. :air_kiss:

The tournament has become much more interesting with the big names getting into contention.

Agreed. A Stenson Rose duel on Sunday is pretty compelling and I personally find it very interesting that something other than 1st matters for once in a golf tournament. I'm sure it's not the purest ideal of golf but I think top5 in a major tournament is an accomplishment so I like the idea of someone winning bronze.
