I haven't even thought about them, let alone been excited. It's just another event and really would be much more exciting if it were amateurs.

Pro or amateur, I can't get excited. We already have the best format, the majors. There is no I in team but there is an m and an e and that spells me.

I'm not all that interested , but will certainly watch.

I don't see how amateurs would make it more interesting (though I do see how it fits more in line with history)

It will be interesting to see who makes it for team USA

My question is simply why the major golf organizations would want to be involved with the completely corrupt IOC? The IOC has made the Olympics so expensive nobody other than totalitarian states and corrupt governments who can steal money from their people can afford to host them.

The IOC has sunk down to the level of FIFA, and the major golf organizations are still legitimate outfits. Golf in the Olympics is at best a minor or nitch sport, a side show to the gymanstics, swimming, track and field, and a few other events that draw people and rating points to the TV and streaming events of the games. When the IOC dumps wrestling, a sport that has always been in the Olympics, even the ancient games, for golf, a sport popular in the West and among a few rich elites in the Third World, its only because the IOC thinks it can expand its control over Golf and get more money in its grubby hands.

It's a mistake of gigantic proportions for golf to be in the Olympics and I hope this is the only Olympiad for it.

Very well put. And when I hear guys like Jordan Spieth go on about how much an honor it would be to "represent your country" I just about gag. It would be refreshing to hear someone come out and say the Olympic Games are a farce, and they would never think of competing in them.

After seeing Golf Central tonight, I think NBC just might own the broadcast rights to the Olympics.

That was some serious pimping out this evening.

The schedule because of the Olympics will be pretty interesting.
[/quote]

I thought that too. Since it's exactly one year until the start of the Olympics, it's either going to clash with the Bridgestone & PGA or come straight off the back of them. If they squeeze the Olympics in, does that push the FedEx & Ryder Cups back?

If they insist on having golf in the Olympics, it should be an amateur only event.
