I have the 460 9.5° head with the Rogue Silver 60 regular shaft and New Decade Platnium grip. I ordered the club directly from TM and had them reduce the length by 1/2 in to 45 in. My understanding is that the swing weight spec for a standard length club is D4. I had my set up checked today and it came in at D3. I expected it to be a bit lower than that given its 1/2 in shorter than standard. Not sure if my shaft/grip set up accounts for the difference or not. Does anyone know if TM adds weight to the head when a club is ordered shorter than standard to increase the swing weight?
No they do not.
Thanks for the response. Not sure how the club ended up at D3 after cutting down by 1/2 in. Anyone else have their M1 shortened by TM and had their swing weight checked?
I've checked the swing weight on two 430s that were ordered -0.75" through the custom department and both are exactly D2. The standard spec is D4 at 45.5", so I would have expected these to come in with a lighter SW.

My first thought was that perhaps they pick slightly heaver heads when doing custom orders with shorter lengths. These heads weighed 199.1g and 198.6g, but I've never weighed the heads of stock 45.5" orders, so I can't make any conclusions. It is also interesting that all four track weights on these two heads are exactly 1.0g light on a calibrated scale (accurate to 0.1g). Seems a bit odd.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention was that both drivers were ordered with GP New Decade grips, which are around 4-5g lighter than the stock Lamkin grip. This would add around a full SW point to the total. However, even that doesn't fully account for the clubs being D2 instead of closer to D0.
Interesting. I have a 460 and 430 and also had a few other 460s. They all weighed 198g. One thing I've learned by spending too much time at Club Champion is the type and amount of epoxy used can alter swingweight fairly quickly. I saw my club builder change the swingweight on two clubs from d2 to d4 and back in a matter of minutes. Not saying so much this is the case with your clubs but it is definitely a method that club builders have at their disposal.

I ordered mine at 44.75", and specifically ordered it with a d4 swing weight, and it came with a swing weight of c9. I was seriously disappointed, called tm cust service and they said there wasn't anything they could do. Said they don't have any way to add weight to the head. Basically I was sol! They called back a week later and said they would replace my shaft with standard length if I wanted in order for the d4 swing weight. It was a rogue silver 110msi 70g x. Annoyed.

We know there are different weights that can be switched out to help with SW. Or hot melt.

That's one thing that annoys me about these so called "custom orders". They make it sound like its something special they are doing for you, "custom building" your club. Then they say they cannot meet that spec you ask for. If a tour player asked for what you wanted, they could build it to those exact specs in 5 minutes. They can easily add heavier track weights or hot melt in for tour players, but they tell you that you're SOL...... Irritating.... Same thing when I custom ordered my R15 with a Fubuki J, to be built at 45". It came in at C9 as well... They can easily fix swingweight if they wanted to. Seems like laziness to me......

How did you place your order, through a shop or online with their custom shop tool? The online tool doesn't have a spot to indicate SW; believe me, I looked. As mentioned above, I also ordered 44.75" so I was expecting it to come in somewhere between C9-D0 and I'd have to add weight to the head. I play my drivers at D2, so I was really happy to see it came at D2.

It's too bad they don't offer better SW options for custom orders (or rather, any at all). That said, I've had a lot of mixed results with the TaylorMade custom shop over the years (even on some clubs I was fit into at the Kingdom), but they nailed my orders with the M1. Both shafts I requested where spot on for length and tipping, something they had frequently messed up in the past.

Got fit today at Cool Clubs, went in totally brand neutral (as is always the case with cool clubs) and the M1 blew everything out of the water.

Tried PXG's new driver, Titleist 915D3, Callaway 816 DBD and nothing was comparable with spin. The PXG felt great, really hot off the face, good ballspeed, bad spin. The other two were not anything great. The Titleist lacked ballspeed and the Callaway was middle of the road in both spin and ballspeed.

First, thanks to my very high spin he gave me the M1 430, which produced excellent numbers and i asked if he thought i was giving anything up with the 430, mostly in the forgiveness department. So i tried the m1 460 and to his surprise as well as mine the numbers were nearly identical. After that the decision was easy, with the same numbers the extra forgiveness of the 460 is the right call.

Final setup was M1 460 9.5 with weight slid fully forward, Graphite Design AD MT 7x. It'll be here Tuesday, can't wait!

Here's the numbers. first is M1 430, second is M1 460

and a quick edit, i know i hit down on the ball way too much, working on that to get the AOA closer to 0

100% correct.....they should be able to come close with just a small extra effort. Isn't that what customizing is? A little extra effort to modify the club from the standard set up? If they would just sell their drivers at 45" and at D-4 they would cover more bases. Why of why do they have go have 45.5" long drivers?

Does anybody know what the "custom" weights that are being used weigh? Also WHERE CAN WE GET THEM?

Thanks!

So I'm assuming then that if you wanted to add the most possible weight you could put a one of the 19g heavy weights in both the front and back track?

You're getting yours next tuesday from Taylormade? I was under the impression that there is some sort of backorder. Mine was ordered week ago and it's not arriving until next week from what i've been told. Also TM custom site is showing 18th shipping date which is same as last week for the 460 8.5 head. Also nice numbers. Isn't your launch angle a little low? My launch angle was way up with Rogue Silver 70x and 460 8.5 turned down to 6.5. My spin number was comparable to yours (Around 200~400 RPM lower)

Ordered mine almost 2 weeks ago and it's still not on the way :(

Looks like they dialed back their inventories on this driver release and now they're outselling their projections. I liked it better when they flooded the market with drivers because TM never had order fulfillment issues the last 3-4 years

They did scale back their production for this release compared to previous releases. TM no longer wants to be viewed as a cheap or gimmicky. During a conference call with the VP, he stated that while they have established themselves as the #1 driver in golf, they no longer want to be looked at as the cheapest.

Well thats the best part of Cool Clubs. They hold a large amount of stock at their headquarters in scottsdale (I really cant recommend these guys enough) and build the clubs for you there. So they had all of the components in stock and my club will be here on the 10th.

I worried some about the launch angle but first i play in a ton of wind, i like keeping that ball down a little and second, i just really liked the numbers i was getting all around, and as i work to decrease my silly AOA the launch should gradually be able to get higher without increasing spin. As Dennis said at the fitting, you get those AOA numbers down and that carry number is going to start to get scary (in a good way of course haha)

Here's the numbers. first is M1 430, second is M1 460

and a quick edit, i know i hit down on the ball way too much, working on that to get the AOA closer to 0

Awesome

I have trouble keeping the trajectory down with the FT-9 Tour despite the amount of love i have for it, Being able to bring the loft down to 6.5 from the 8.5 that i usually hit really created some more forward motion on the descent. My carry went up a bit and same goes for the total distance

Now the more intriguing part was the fact that clubhead speed went up significantly without adding any effort to the swing. It could be due to the slightly longer shaft but not entirely sure why

Hopefully someone can help my out on what loft/shaft combo to get in this. LAst time I was fit on a launch monitor, it was into a 913d2 7.5* with a Speeder 7.2 TS in S. I'm a high launch high spin player. Obviously the M1 is a lower launching head than 913.

Any recommendations off the top of your head on the Rogue vs. Fuji Pro vs. Kuro Kage?
for lowest spin/launch, i'd suggest the kuro, then Rogue, then FP.

Taylormade Qi10 LS / 8* (dialed to 10*) / Denali Black 60TX

Taylormade Qi10 Tour / 3w (dialed 1 notch higher) / HZRDUS RDX Smoke Green 85 6.5

Taylormade P-DHY / 2i / Tensei Pro White 100TX
Mizuno Pro 245 / 4-GW (3* weak) / KBS Tour X

Cleveland RTX6 / 54, 58 (full face2) / DG TI Spinner

Odd, TM fitter switched me out of KK and put me in the Rogue Silver 70X immediately based on my trajectory.

Hitting 16*+ launch with 6.5* loft setup with 70X.
