i have but one gripe about the M1 driver so far --- the sound. i liked it alot at first but as i'm hitting it more and more i'm kinda getting 'eh' to it. it might be remedied easily with some hotmelt or something but, just something i'd like to note

*now, if anyone cares...that's a whole other story.

Haven't seen or heard an M1 in the wild yet. What's the sound like? Can you compare it to another TM driver?

I play often with a guy who uses an SLDR. Oddly enought, when I think he has nutted a ball due to the muted sound, he often claims it wasn't struck well, and vice versa. Still using the original RBZ, the sounds gets slightly muted when I strike it dead-center (and more tinny when I don't, which is much more often). So, clearly I identify a more muted sound with a better strike -- but that's clearly not the case with all TM drivers.

its alot like the old R7 superquad...but not as solid/muted...slightly more tingy (lower pitched, not G30 or anything like that)

To those of you who have cut down your shaft from stock length... How have you got the swing weight back up? I don't see a port to add hot melt.
Have you bought heavier weights for the sliding tracks? Lead tape? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I play my driver at 44.5" and it just swing weighted at C7. That's a little too light for my liking. Sorry if this has already been discussed...

I am the dufus who cannot hit it... tried several times... I just get a horrid weany fade/slice and I hit it way shorter than my i25... I only hit the 460cc head.

but in the $500 I saved I picked up PM Grind 58*-10 wedge, MD2 Tour 60* wedge, Titleist CB 716 2 iron + Adams XTD Driver and dropped my hcp to 4

I had my M1 with 460 head, Rogue Silver 60 shaft, and NDMC grip cut down 1/2 in. Had the swing weight checked and it came in at D3, so no plans to add weight. I did call TM CS to inquire about availability of heavier weights. The rep I spoke to said that they currently weren't available, but understood that they would be available in the near future. He suggested I check back in December.

I would first look at the heavier weights being offered by TMAG and then go from there, be it lead tape to fine tune it. Also, maybe a 48 gram grip will help out just enough too!

I must have been pretty dull with my senses. Didn't notice a huge difference between the driver shaft and 3 wood shaft when i hit them during the demo other than length

Oddly enough, i thought the PSI iron was too light

Really. Can I presume you put the right aftermarket shaft in and had it swing weighted to your need? Stock its 45.5", like SLDR and R15, which to my way of thinking is too long for most people, even better golfers. I had both SLDR and R15 cut to 44.75 and swing weighted to D3

Hmmm, not sure why you would buy a 58* and a 60*, but good to hear on your handicap dropping. I will say however that there is NO way possible for your cap to drop that much since the M1 came out, unless you've played countless rounds at way under your cap, but I don't think it's attributed to your additions.

Got a chance to play this today and have a question if you guys don't mind. Took out a demo today with the Kuro Kage in a 10.5 head. I hit it against a friends 9.5 915D3 with a D+ 70 in stiff.

915 has a mid, penetrating ball flight. And can see the ball bounce when it hits the ground. Not sure on roll but definitely getting a fair amount. Used it on 6 holes and hit 3 fairways. Pulled 2 left and pushed 1 right. The 1 right I couldn't play. All in all, cost me 3 strokes.

M1's ball flight was noticeably higher and more of an arc. Very tight draw on 5 of the drives. One tight fade. 6/6 on fairways. Scary. Pretty much dead center.

Now on the 2 draws where I hit the fairway with both drivers the 915 was about 5 yards further. On the fade, the M1 was further by about the same distance. I did notice there was almost no roll with it M1. In fact, the ball mark was within 10 ft on all 6 drives.

Sorry that took so long. My question, is it possible for me to get more distance but not give up the accuracy? Or just shut up and order this combo.
if you hit every fairway -- and it's at most 5 yards difference...

wouldn't you want that kinda accuracy?? the difference in distance is negligible and could probably be remedied by dialing the M1 in further...

You're right. I don't want to give up the accuracy. Guess what I meant is what can I do to 'dial' in some additional distance. Feel like there's definitely more distance there but am I going to start to lose accuracy.
well, go to a fitter. there's a good chance on a trackman they can dial you in for your loft, weight settings, etc...

i don't know what those might be but if you grabbed it off the rack and took it out, i'm sure there's more dialing-in that can be done.

Every year I swing all the clubs and pick out my few contenders based on looks and feel. Then I really narrow down what I want based on numbers. M1 didn't feel as unique second time around but it is the best of the new bunch IMO. The Cobra was a let down.

How many of you have had multiple rounds on course with it now and what did you notice going from the fitter to the outside?
In all honesty I thought I was a 6.5 hcp as I was averaging 77.5 on our course but the USGA model uses the 132 course slope and I ended with a 4.5 hcp but have been shooting +1,+3,+3,+4, +7, +3, +4 last 7 rounds on said course with new wedge set up and a lot of wedge practice, so my final hcp before the off-season was listed as 3.9

Driving is not my weak point and I will never avg over 300 yards... current month avg 265 yards or so and previous 2 months avg was 281 or so according to myroundpro.....

I am pitching + putting way way better though.... now under -1 SGR off short game whereas I was -5.5 in early Sep... SGR vs scratch golfer

I wanted to have a crack with the M1 as I have quite a few Taylormade clubs and really like all of them

I own wedges 52, 56, 58, 60 and 64 and mix and match... the 58 is a PM Grind which I use for specialist shots... 64 is not to my liking... my official USGA hcp trend dropped from 5 to 4.5 to 3.9 in 8 weeks. I play 4-5 rounds per week when healthy. My hcp would not move even if I gained 20-30 yards on my Driver as I would still end up with those sub 100 yard pitch shots... but ego is ego and I would love to bomb them way over 300 with a sexy new beast... alas it is not in the stars
You work in a golf shop right? if you have a number of M1's in stock... grab a digital scale and see if any are 2grams lighter due to manufacturing tolerances... if you can swap for a slightly lighter front and back weight it might help get the SW down a bit...you might get lucky... i also looked online and don't see any M1 weights available as of yet. Keep messing with it, you'll find the right recipe.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Just unscrew the weight to take off the top portion and screw, then the bottom part will wiggle out and the end of the track. The R15 allowed this, as well. Much different than the way the SLDR weight was handled.

And what side do you grind? I assume the flattest part, and would a belt sander work? How do you hold the weight if you're using a belt sander
